Loftboy has posted on LFW that Stan's son has posted on facebook asking people to stop asking Stan for his autograph because he is suffering from Alzheimer's.
This won't be news to everyone, but has now been made public. I bumped in to Marilyn Demmen (who used to run Stan's fan club) at Clapham Junction at some point last season. She said then that Stan had been down for the match but hadn't recognise her without prompting. Very sad.

Very sad
I saw Stan Bowles Play for Carlisle at Loftus Road shortly after we sold Rodney Marsh. Pouring rain/Loftus Road Mud. Such skills from Bowles (although we won 3-0). Then saw Bowles' Debut v Nott F - Made one. Scored one. It was a lot of money back then when we paid 110,000 for Bowles - and there were other clubs linked: I think Crystal Palace...He was the player we KNEW would be good/wanted to sign. (Not just hindight.)

Bowles Facebook Page Stan Bowles We are writing this on behalf of our father Stanley Bowles. We would like it to be known that our father has unfortunately developed a form of alzheimers. Consequently he finds it extremely difficult to sign autographs etc. We would be grateful for anyone who comes in contact with our father to show some understanding of his condition. We have on behalf of our father been grateful that fans still show interest in him and would be grateful that anything regarding him is played low key. We will continue his Facebook page and hope you will continue to share your memories thanking you in anticipation Tracy Andrea Carl www.facebook.com/stanbowlesofficial

Throw him a football and I bet he can still do the tricks without remembering how. Not a joke. Some sufferers can remember some normal skills like talking or walking. In Stans case, it would be football skills.

Such dreadful news to read this As well as my grandad, Stan was the other main reason I followed QPR back in the 70's. . Him and that team were a joy to watch .... Players have never quite managed to match what that team achieved in the League and maybe never will. All the best Stan

"I didn't do too badly - when football wasn't all about money!"
-quote from Stan on the facebook page.
Very true words from Stanley. And a major reason I have now become disillusioned with football including the team I grew up with but still support despite the money grabbers.
Nevertheless: Good luck to Stan and his family.

Time for the club to step in and help a QPR legend. I expect them to!

Yes for sure they should and hopefully will . The word legend gets thrown about far to easily in my eyes these days .
But Stan was a QPR legend of the highest order and the Club knows it .

A genuine entertainer both on and off the pitch. This type of player are gone from the game forever, crying shame.

Helping Bowles: Absolutely the club will be helping/honouring him...As the club have already said
I'd like to "seize the moment" and try and also get the club to "focus" on helping other old players...which as we've noted before they havent.
In the last couple of years, they've at least done some bringing back some former players at match days (thanks I belive from prodding from certain QPR Fans)
But the broader helping out: If they are, I've never seen it announced...

Sorry Mac, but using this to have yet another pop is low.

It's not a "pop." And its regrettable that you should think so
It's an "Appeal" to look after former QPR Players...
Yes: Stan Bowles. Of course
But the "plight" of former QPR Players is something I've been pointing to for many years.
It's precedes Fernandes. It precedes Briatore. It precedes Paladini.
But it's something that we should look after. And should remedy.
And now peoples consciousness is hopefully somewhat hightened
