From the Daily Mail Charlie Austin in talks over QPR deal with striker set to double his wages to £60,000 Charlie Austin has 18 months remaining on his contract with QPR The Queens Park Rangers striker has scored 11 goals this season Austin's new deal is set to earn him between £50,000-£60,000 per week By SAM CUNNINGHAM FOR MAILONLINE PUBLISHED: 20:48 AEST, 22 December 2014 | UPDATED: 23:49 AEST, 22 December 2014 Queens Park Rangers have opened talks with Charlie Austin about offering him a new contract. The striker hit his first Barclays Premier League hat-trick to help his side come from two goals down to beat West Bromwich Albion at the weekend. It took his goals tally to 11 in 15 games this season making him the league's leading English goalscorer behind only Sergio Aguero and Diego Costa in the scoring charts. Austin, still only 25, has 18 months remaining on his current deal which he signed in 2013 when he joined the club in a £4million move from Burnley. He is fast becoming one of the hottest properties in England and QPR chiefs have started initial discussions with the player's representative about extending his stay. Both parties are said to be relaxed about the current situation and in no hurry, with a busy set of festive fixtures ahead. Harry Redknapp: Charlie Austin is a player you want to keep It is understood Austin is set to potentially double his £28,000-per-week deal to between £50,000 and £60,000 and extend it to 2018. His form this season – his first in the top flight – has attracted attention from England manager Roy Hodgson and his scouts. Back in November, Hodgson said: ‘I think Charlie Austin is doing very well at QPR and he’s a player we have our eyes on.' Since then, he has netted six goals in six appearances. There is no doubting his importance to QPR after manager Harry Redknapp admitted they 'might as well go home' if they sold the player and striker partner Bobby Zamora urging the club to extend his stay. Yes good question Roller . The way I see it 60k seems to be about a fair starting point, not sure how much more we would go to ? Poss 70 at a push . But if he signed the deal for 60k we stayed up in the Prem, a year or 18 months down the road, he may go onto 100k at another Club anyhow if he is still banging the goals in. We couldn't stop him. The contract doesn't mean that much these days anyway, quite often players have two or even three years left . If he ended up with 70k I would say he still deserved it, I don't think we can afford to pay 80-100 k contracts for a club our size. You have to have some sort of structure even for the top players in your team. I personally think he will sign it but if we go down or remain in the Prem would expect us to lose him in 18 months by the summer of 2016 if he is still getting around 20 goals a season.

I actually meant a better club No reason why he shouldn't sign a new contract now though, as long as he has got relegation and release clauses that he (or his agent) is happy with. They may have been the sticking points on our last offer.

I see that Charlie has just received the ultimate accolade, he is in Garth Crooks' team of the week!
According to Garth:
I actually went to Loftus Road to see this game and I couldn't believe my eyes at times. West Brom, who played some wonderful football on occasions, defended like schoolboys and it cost them the game.
Charlie Austin, on the other hand, looks full of confidence in front of goal at the moment and had QPR fans chanting "Charlie for England". Well, I'm not sure about Austin coping with the pressure of playing for his country but he's certainly fearless in front of goal.
Every finish of his hat-trick was superbly taken.

Is this not just a rerun of the story from a few weeks ago?
As he won the game for us on Saturday, I would think that The Mail took the opportunity to fill some space with old news.
it would certainly be cheaper than the journalists having to do do some actual work & build up their expenses!

No actually, the story (fictional story may I add) was about Austin turning down a contract. This story does actually have some legs though, Sky this morning reporting that we have indeed only just started talks with him over a new contract.

I agree, he keeps playing like this, he probably won't be around any longer than that. It also depends if we stay up this season and where we end up next season. The only way I see him sticking around any longer than that is if we get into European competitions, which is probably not going to happen. Hopefully he does sign the contact and we get a nice chunk of change from it and by then have a decent replacement. We will need to sign a younger striker from the Championship or a relegated team in the summer, to have any hope for the future.

They may have been the sticking points on our last offer. Personally I don't care for relegation/release clauses, as their value can go up or down and just be an unnecessary bump in the road. Having a higher pay wage would pressure QPR to sell Austin if relegated and I am sure would have no problem doing so.

Who Needs Fancy? Striker Charlie Austin Is Carrying Q.P.R. By ROB HUGHESDEC. 21, 2014 Photo

Move five years to the present, and the former construction worker has turned into a big-game winner in the English Premier League.
This Christmas, Austin has what he wanted all along. He took home the match ball on Saturday after scoring three times as his London team, Queens Park Rangers, came back from two goals down to beat West Bromwich Albion 3-2. He is the first Rangers’ player to score a hat trick at this level in 21 years, and his goals could be the difference between Q.P.R. remaining a Premier League team or being relegated at the end of the season.
Austin is 25, which is middle-aged for a player in this company. He has arrived after a career that began nine leagues below the Premiership. He is a laborer, still, in the sense that he runs miles and miles for the chances that seem to fall his way.

Take a look at the list of the top Premier League scorers this season.
1) Sergio Agüero, Manchester City, 14 goals
2) Diego Costa, Chelsea, 12 goals
3) Charlie Austin, Q.P.R., 11 goals.
Agüero, an Argentine, and Costa, a Brazilian, are among the highest-paid predators on earth. Austin, born some 50 miles from where he plays, is still eager to nail down a new contract, no matter the numbers written on it.
The most curious part about Austin’s rise to fame is that while he now stands 6-foot-2, the official reason that he was discarded by his local club when he was 16 was that he was “too small.” But Austin has been able to strike goals at every level he has played.
At the top of the Premier League sit Chelsea and Manchester City. And while Chelsea has re-recruited the Ivory Coast striker Didier Drogba to stand in whenever anything happens to Costa, City’s plight is such that it took to the field Saturday without any recognized center forward, and still won, 3-0, against Crystal Palace.
Agüero is injured. So are Edin Dzeko and Stevan Jovetic, and so City Coach Manuel Pellegrini worked all last week on a new system designed to get midfield players to score. David Silva did so twice Saturday, as did Yaya Touré, who sealed the victory with that fantastic long stride of his.
Meanwhile, Radamel Falcao, another foreign talent, scored with a superbly timed header to rescue a point in Manchester United’s 1-1 tie at Aston villa. Falcao has always had the ability to score in his arsenal, but he has struggled to get over the serious knee surgery he suffered with Monaco at the start of the calendar year.
Falcao’s goal Saturday was his second since he arrived in England on a loan that is costing United almost $10 million just for this season, plus a reported salary of $400,000 a week.
Whatever Austin is getting will be a fraction of that. Yet he is always fit and ready for action. His style, it has to be said, is less flamboyant than the imported stars who have lifted the quality of the Premier League way beyond the English seasons of old.
Continue reading the main storyContinue reading the main storyContinue reading the main story The header that Falcao produced Saturday was extraordinary because the ball was traveling slightly behind him, yet he somehow reached back in midair and found a way to get his forehead to it.
The goals so often scored by Agüero are miniature pieces of art, as he appears out of the blue to strike with deft and deceiving shots before anyone can even see the opportunity.
And Austin? He scored Saturday first with a penalty kick, the second goal knocked in on the rebound after the ball hit the crossbar, and the third came from powerful header following a corner kick.
Each strike combined opportunism and the knack of being in the right place at the right time. There is no lasting impression of elegance from Austin, yet time and time again he gets into position to finish off the chances. With 11 goals in the first 15 games, he no longer can be regarded as just someone on a lucky streak.
Austin makes little attempt to explain his long road to stardom. With the game ball cradled between his left arm and his body, he spoke in clichés on Saturday about being pleased to do his bit for the team, while deflecting premature suggestions about how soon it will be before England calls him to its national team.
CONTINUE READING THE MAIN STORY 1 COMMENT Modesty is probably the proper response. The season is not yet halfway through, and Queens Park is a team that is overdependent on him. His 11 goals constitute more than half of Q.P.R.’s 20 goals in its first 17 games.
Austin still has his rough edges and just completed a ban for accumulating five yellow cards as he literally fights for his right to the ball. He made an invaluable interception deep on defense after West Brom took a two-goal lead Saturday.
A strong work ethic combined with natural ability has propelled this discard toward the top of the Christmas scoring charts. But Q.P.R., without a win or a point away from its home field, still has work to do to prevent this year from being a one-season wonder in the Premier League.

In this crazy world of football earnings that bears no relationship to the real world (£60,000 a week is £3 million a year) one could argue this is a 'low offer'. Strikers normally 'earn' more than defenders and as Joe Hart signs for £125,000 a week what does this mean to the rest of the players in football?
One of the posters said is SWP is worth £80k and used that as a comparison. The trouble in football that causes the wage inflation of 25% is taking a crap player and using their salary as a basis to justify the salary of someone else.
It really is the lunatics running the asylum! But perhaps the lunatics are you and me that come to the game and buy the Sky package, bank at Barclays and 'have a bit of that' on BET 365 or 666?
Whatever CA's wage it, I hope it includes the following
-A reasonable basic -A performance related bonus (could be goals or assists…not too great a % because this becomes a negative for team spirit) -A league position related bonus -A cup progression bonus -A TV related bonus -A double relegation clause (a good 3 year contract should cover all potential scenarios)
In essence a contract that rewards success and doesn't reward failure (such as SWP or Anton F or that nasty Botswinga etc)
Charlie Austin is still not the finished article. Has played a handful of games at the top level and is being treated as a messiah (perhaps it's the time of year?!)
Offering a contract that doesn't cover all the bases in terms of positives and negatives would to my mind mean, we still from a management viewpoint have not learned from the mistakes of the past.
Still it's 'nice' we have a player that is attracting interest from other Clubs!
This is something we haven't seen at Loftus Road for many, many years as we have not purchased well nor with the exception of Sterling (OK that was quite an exception) nurtured junior talent.
But that's another thread for another day.

CANNOT SIGN DEFOE ON £90k & OFFER CHARLIE £60k
Would cause uproar and more problems than needed.
My guess is Austin won't sign a deal until we're guaranteed (IF that day comes) premiership football for next season OR only with a relegation release &/Or a top4/champions league release clause with a fee (Like Remy Deal).
He's come a long way in a few years & a footballers career is short… you couldn't blame him for demanding a top contract.
Hope he does stay, fingers crossed

From the BBC www.bbc.com/sport/0/football/30573099 Charlie Austin: QPR boss Harry Redknapp says player will not go Queens Park Rangers boss Harry Redknapp insists any January bids for top scorer Charlie Austin would be rejected. Austin, 25, has scored 11 goals this season, including a hat-trick in QPR's 3-2 win over West Bromwich Albion which lifted them out of the bottom three. "If we sold Charlie Austin we might as well go home," said Redknapp. "We need Charlie to keep doing what he's doing and he can't afford to take his foot off the gas. His target would be around 20 goals now." Austin the driving force behind QPR home rule All of QPR's points this season have come at home, with Charlie Austin contributing nine of their 17 goals scored at Loftus Road Austin, who joined QPR from Burnley at the start of last season, has 18 months left to run on his existing contract at Loftus Road. The former Swindon Town striker, who was playing non-league football five years ago, has scored nine goals in his last eight games and a total of 31 in 52 appearances for Rangers. Redknapp added: "He's a goalscorer. He wants to score. Goalscorers find a yard of space. It's a knack - he's in the right place at the right time. "If you score 20 goals in the Championship this year you'll score in the Premier League. It's not rocket science, it's that knack that people have got - they've been scoring goals since they were kids."

A new contract is more for our protection and for Charlie to get a better deal when he inevitably goes on to a bigger club.
Right now a top club could offer him £40k a week and that would be an improvement on his current deal. Giving him £60k a week (and every penny of that deal would be richly and thoroughly deserved) means teams would have to offer him £70k plus to get him.
It also means they'd need to pay a significant transfer fee too. You don't spend £5m on a guy you're going to pay £70k+ a week to.
If Bony goes in this window it will set the benchmark for strikers next summer. Charlie is English born so is a home grown player. That is like gold dust to the teams in Champions League. If a top 4 club was to come knocking QPR could expect a very healthy offer. He won't go for peanuts like Remy, whose contract was designed to do everything possible to get him out of here at the lowest possible price.
