6 Years today: The announcement made 04/10/2014 By David McIntyre QPR are set to confirm the appointment of Loftus Road legend Les Ferdinand in the next few days. The club have been looking to give the former R’s and England striker, 47, a role for some time and are close to formalising the terms of his return. He will not be a direct replacement for Richard Allen, who recently resigned as QPR’s academy boss. Ferdinand’s role is likely to involve some coaching but he will also have an overseeing position at the club. Signed from Hayes in 1987, Ferdinand scored 81 goals in 164 league appearances for Rangers and established himself as one of the country’s top forwards before leaving for Newcastle in 1995. He subsequently had a two-and-a-half-year spell at Tottenham – the club he supported as a boy – and later worked there as a coach when QPR boss Harry Redknapp was manager at White Hart Lane. Ferdinand has been out of the game since leaving Spurs in June, as has coach Chris Ramsey, who could also be given a role at Rangers. Allen, also formerly of Tottenham, is leaving to take up a new job at the Football Association. The applicants to replace him include Ferdinand’s former QPR and England team-mate David Bardsley, who currently lives in the United States. www.westlondonsport.com/qpr/qpr-set-to-confirm-les-ferdinands-return

And he brings to the club beyond being a BIG NAME and one-time "Sir Les" player of QPR? Sounds a bit convluted. Reporting to who? Donnelly/Beard...Redknapp? Or does Redknapp report to him?

QPR OFFICIAL SITE Gallery 1 of 15 PUBLISHED 16:00 7th October 2014 by @qprfc Les Ferdinand has been appointed Head of Football Operations at QPR ... QUEENS Park Rangers Football Club is delighted to confirm the return of legendary front-man Les Ferdinand to Loftus Road, in the role of Head of Football Operations. ‘Sir Les’ – as he was affectionately known during his time here as a player – will be charged with overseeing the structure of the footballing side of the club, focusing on improving the footballing philosophy at all levels. As part of the role, Ferdinand will have a coaching presence at all levels, helping nurture young talent from the club’s Academy through to the first team. He will provide a direct link between the footballing side of the business and the Board of Directors, as well as chairing monthly Technical Control Board meetings. QPR Chairman Tony Fernandes believes the arrival of the 47 year-old will significantly improve the footballing side of the business. He said: “Football has changed considerably in recent years and I firmly believe there is a role at every football club for this kind of position. “Les is a fantastic QPR man and I know the fans will join me in welcoming him back to a place he has a great fondness for. “The footballing philosophy and nurturing young talent are high on our agenda and Les’s experience of working with players at all levels, combined with his undoubted passion for the club, will help us build and improve.” A delighted Ferdinand told http://www.qpr.co.uk: “It’s incredible to be back here. “This club holds a special place in my heart. Everyone knows what it means to me, so when the opportunity to return here in this role came up I jumped at the opportunity. “Tony and his fellow shareholders know the passion I have and the experience I’ve gained since retiring will really stand me in good stead for this role. “There’s nothing I want more than for QPR to be successful in the short, medium and long term and I’m excited about the challenge ahead.” He added: “It’s about time we started producing players that come through to the first-team from the academy. QPR always had a tradition for doing that, but it seems to have gone away from it in recent years. “I know the owners would like to get back to that, and they want that side of the club to develop.” R’s manager Harry Redknapp said: “I'm pleased to welcome Les back to the club. “There's no doubting the qualities he'll bring to the role, having enjoyed a great time here as a player. But beyond that, he understands the game. “I brought him in at Tottenham as a coach, and he did a great job for me there. “Having someone like him involved with the club, someone who understands the history of it, can only be good for QPR.” Read more at www.qpr.co.uk/news/article/071014-les-ferdinand-returns-to-qpr-in-new-role-2003418.aspx#4oYrX8WE4zbWlUf1.99www.qpr.co.uk/news/article/071014-les-ferdinand-returns-to-qpr-in-new-role-2003418.aspx

QPR OFFICIAL SITE LES FERDINAND: IN PROFILE Les Ferdinand PUBLISHED 15:58 7th October 2014 by @qprfc A closer look at QPR's new Head of Football Operations Les Ferdinand ... LES FERDINAND is a man who needs no introduction to QPR fans, young and old. Those of a certain vintage will remember only too fondly the goals ‘Sir Les’ scored for the club in the top flight, while the younger generation will have heard many a story about our famous Number 9. Before Ferdinand wrote his name into the folklore of QPR, he began his career playing non-league football with Hayes. In March 1987, aged 20, the powerful and rapid front man completed a move to Loftus Road for a reported £15,000. In his early days in W12, Ferdinand struggled to adapt to life in England’s top division and spent time on loan with Besiktas (twice) and Brentford. Despite an impressive season with the Turkish side, Ferdinand still found first-team opportunities difficult to come by at QPR and looked set to be leaving the club before Gerry Francis arrived as manager in the summer of 1991. In the Premier League’s inaugural season, Ferdinand hit 20 league goals to help Rangers finish fifth. He followed that up with another 40 league goals in the next two seasons before he joined Newcastle for £6million – a 40,000% mark-up on his arrival fee! In all, Ferdinand scored 90 goals in 183 appearances in all competitions for QPR before his move to St James’ Park in the summer of 1995. An impressive 50 goals in just two seasons with Newcastle led Tottenham to pay another £6million for his services, and he would spend the next seven years with the north London side. Injuries limited his playing time during this period, but he still racked up another 33 goals in all competitions. Ferdinand enjoyed spells with West Ham, Leicester, Bolton and Reading before retiring in 2006. He is part of an elite club of players to score more than 100 Premier League goals. Currently, he is the eighth highest scorer in the competition’s history, with 149 goals. Internationally, Ferdinand represented England on 17 occasions, scoring five goals. After hanging up his playing boots, Ferdinand spent six years on the coaching staff at Spurs before leaving the club in the summer. www.qpr.co.uk/news/article/071014-les-ferdinand-in-profile-2003424.aspx#8me3930SdHFEBGbK.99

We're going to go the personalized approach. Each player will get his own coach! Great Mac , that's the starting 11 sorted them . We can start working on the subs bench now Sure Taarbs would like one to pass him the pies and pick up his dummy when he drops it . In in all seriousness Welcome to the Club Les . Heard a mixed bag about if he is good or not, guess we won't even know but as Player one of my all time fav top ten. After Stan , Dave Thomas , Parkes and before Andy Impey, Bardsley, Gallen, Wegerle ,Alan Mac and others .

We're no longer a piss willy little club, we are a big club. Not compared to Manure and Chelscum but a multi-million pound club big by world standards. Snide comments like, "we're going down the personalised approach. Each player will get his own coach" are not only silly, they are indicative of not understanding where football is now and mocking our players does nothing to help lift the moral of our players. The sort of thing I would expect from a Chelscum supporter making fun of us, not from our supporters. Lift your game guys! Rant over!

It's good to rant and release steam.
But sometimes you have to joke.
We're really not a big club. We want to pretend we are and act we are. And that may be our goal.
Currently we're a club that spends more than we earns. And misspends much of that money.
And we have a lot of glitter...Perhaps less on the levels of staff and more directed actually re the actual playing team.
Just remember all the hype from the various Mark Hughes appointees
As for not being fit. I don't actually think you need a slew of coaches to get the players fit.
You need the willingness of the manager and the players to get fit...Period. And if this truly hasnt happened, it one of the stranger things at QPR

We are all not happy with certain things at the minute but I will continue to put my comments on here about Harry and the board as I feel from my heart as I see fit. My joke about Taarbs pies was just as joke too as Im his biggest fan . Lighten up Man we all love Rangers deep down.

There are three with a name as coach against them but more actually doing coaching maybe ?

I just want to make sure I’m reading this correctly.
“overseeing the structure of the footballing side of the club, focusing on improving the footballing philosophy at all levels.”
So Les is going to be in charge of the road map for the club and he will set the club’s ethos for all areas? So does that include style, tactics and transfer policy?
“As part of the role, Ferdinand will have a coaching presence at all levels, helping nurture young talent from the club’s Academy through to the first team.”
I can see the sense in this and it will possibly help Fernandes’ desire to actually get players from the youth teams to eventually play first team football.
“He will provide a direct link between the footballing side of the business and the Board of Directors, as well as chairing monthly Technical Control Board meetings.”
All of these activities seem to indicate that he has a higher station than the manager. If this is the case, and in conjunction with his contract renewal being withdrawn, I think it must number Redknapp’s days, but secure his immediate future while Les settles in. Hopefully it is a step towards the excellent set up that they have at Southampton, where they managed to lose their manager, sell half their squad but know exactly how to replace them all to become stronger. If this is the case, then this is the appointment we have been crying out for, let’s hope that Les is the man for the job. I'd hate to see his reputation sullied.
Good luck Les.

Thing is roller, southampton have been in the faces of their community for decades now. They are in primary schools, junior and high. they are in the work places of the parents of those children organising social events such as 6 week summer camps, weekends with families events such as bbq's , swimming gala's , quiz nights.
they hold kiddies birthday parties at st marys that are affordable and very welcoming with even a player or two turning up.
they have embedded themselves so deep into the day to day lives of the communities of most of hampshire that there is rarely a child or adult without a southampton shirt on. Its also how they get the talent, they dont scout, no need when you are the only club that they wish to play for.
its going to take a long time for qpr to touch upon what southampton have achieved.
but with sir les its a blooming good start.

Not sure there to worried about defending, they change it round most weeks. Worst defender will be playing every week sadly.

If case not previously seen (I did post this not long ago) The Club Philosophy CLUB FOOTBALL PHILOSOPHY PUBLISHED 12:03 15 May 2013 Our club football philosophy is to play a creative and fluid style. Our teams look to attack and the players are comfortable and flexible with or without the ball. We embrace individually talented players who work hard within the team dynamic, key attributes which resonate with the fans. Our intent is to compete and thrive within the Premier League. A QPR player must be adaptable and able to cope with changing circumstances. Our players are not coached in a playing system but more in a playing style. Our style is not a rigid formation system but will include play through the thirds (possession based or counter attack), based on exceptional technique, intelligent individuals, capable of beating opponents 1v1 and via team movement. Defensively we are flexible and players are comfortable and adept whether pressing or holding; playing a high line or deep as required. Our players are encouraged to develop within this style whilst we recognise every player is an individual and very different. Different “types” of individual players and specialists are sought – effective in making, scoring or stopping goals. However all share common traits – awareness, perceptiveness, flexibility and the ability to play what is around them for the good of the team. At first team level, the performance of the team is always of greater importance than the performance of the individual. The individual player’s performance is always of greater importance than the teams at all levels below the first team. Our intent is to prepare players for Premier League football whilst being able to adapt to all other levels and our coaching/teaching principles and tactical cycle reflects this.
