Slightly Expanded INDEPENDENT QPR midfielder Sandro ruled out of trip to Southampton after suffering injury - by sliding on his knees to celebrate a goal in training The £10m summer signing will miss the match against Saints but his bemusing injury isn't believed to be long-term Jack de Menezes Tuesday 23 September 2014 Queens Park Rangers midfielder Sandro has suffered a fresh knee injury after sliding on his knees while celebrating a goal…in training. Ads by Google \ The Brazilian midfielder has had a history with injuries that have ruled him out for long periods, and manager Harry Redknapp is furious with how the latest knock came about. “It was a stupid injury,” said Redknapp. “He scored a goal in training and slid on his knee like a lot of players do. I don’t know why players do it. “The pitch was bone dry so he skidded. His knee has gone bang into the turf and I watched him trying to get up wondering ‘what’s he done here?’ Sure enough he wasn’t fit for Saturday. Loading gallery... Queens Park Rangers - the latest match in pictures 1 of 28 QPR 2 Stoke 2 N\ “I couldn’t believe it. He had a knee operation at Tottenham last year which kept him out for quite a while. It was a setback for us and I wouldn’t recommend anyone sliding on their knees. It’s absolutely crazy.” Sandro moved to Loftus Road last month in a £10m deal that saw him link up with his former Tottenham manager after falling down the pecking order at White Hart Lane in recent years, and current manager Mauricio Pochettino made it clear that the 25-year-old was not a part of his plans. The midfielder’s arrival at QPR had prompted optimism among Rangers supporters that he would help bring quality to a team aiming for Premier League survival having won promotion back to the top flight last season. However, Redknapp’s plans to keep Rangers up have been hit by numerous injuries, predominantly to his midfielders, and means that he has just two available for this weekend’s trip to Southampton which Sandro will miss. “I started the season with six central midfielders and now have [Alejandro] Faurlin, Sandro, [Joey] Barton and [Jordan] Mutch all injured,” added Redknapp. “It’s a bit of a problem for us. I just have Leroy Fer and Karl Henry to be fit for Saturday against Southampton.” www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/qpr-midfielder-sandro-ruled-out-of-trip-to-southampton-after-suffering-injury--by-sliding-on-his-knees-to-celebrate-a-goal-in-training-9750722.html

more excuses. No midfielders & no defenders. May as well forfeit the match.

more excuses. No midfielders & no defenders. May as well forfeit the match. One ACL, One Knee (not ACL), two hamstrings for the midfield - just leaves two fit doesn't it. Aren't they verifiable and factual? I thought that was a 'reason' and not an excuse.

Not only QPR. While at Chelsea, Dave Beasant missed 2 months after dropping a jar of salad cream on his toe

So we have Henry, Fer and Kranjcar. Barton said he may be fit enough for the match on Facebook, though. Can't afford any more midfield injuries that is for sure.

I can here the excuses now , down to the bare bones after a 4-0 drubbing at Southampton. I think my estimate of 6 - 9 points after Man City looking quite safe at the minute . Wonder what sort of away performance it will be this time ?

Have to assume it's true, because Redknapp is an honourable man - they all are...
But just on the offchance....IF it turns out to be spin and not how it happened - there should be some departures at Loftus Road

Maybe this is what the coaches are concentrating on instead less important things like defending and scoring goals?

Only on this board would someone question whether this is a conspiracy to cover up some long term knee injury....
Really shouldn't be surprised

Actually NOT only on this board...You'll see it's been suggested elsewhere
And, we've been told untruths before by QPR personnel before
And even Harry has a certain record
Very possibly/probably - the injury occurred just as Redknapp said...
(And let's hope it's short-term - and b, nothing to do with weaknesses with his knees which maybe could have been anticipated)
But I will certainly be (even more) of a believer when it's confirmed on the Official Site by others than Redknapp

It was confirmed by Charlie Austin in his blog on a website called SportsLobster.
Think that puts this to rest.

Well Sandro returning is a help but still not sure if we are going to get any points down there . Schneiderlin , Pele. and Clyne are on fire at the minute . We were linked for quite in several windows and always seem to miss out.

I doubt Sandro will play. The report only says he has been cleared to train and will be tested today - they tried to push Barton and Mutch back too quick last week with the obvious outcome. At most he should be on the bench but preferably not in the squad to ensure he is 100% the week after. OR it could all be the pre match mind games (that almost all clubs play) to keep the opposition guessing about the team. It is a bit of an improvement on the worry that he could have been out for the season though. We seem cursed in midfield at the moment. One other (quite) bright light is that when Henry came on he did a good job.

I never see the goal but still not sure any goal in training awards a knee slide afterwards specially after you have been out injured for an entire season at a previous club. So I am not being fair on this on JJ To me you don't do it .
