From the BBC www.bbc.com/sport/0/football/28951487 Crystal Palace: Neil Warnock set to be named as new manager By David Ornstein BBC Sport Crystal Palace are set to appoint Neil Warnock as their new manager. The 65-year-old, who was in charge of Palace between 2007 and 2010, has been preferred to former West Brom boss Steve Clarke. Palace chairman and co-owner Steve Parish has turned to Warnock as a successor to Tony Pulis after Malky Mackay was ruled out last week. Warnock has money to spend and discussions will continue over the make-up of his backroom staff. The London club are keen for caretaker manager Keith Millen to be integrated into the new set-up. Both Warnock and Clarke were interviewed this week after Palace turned their back on Malky Mackay, and Tim Sherwood pulled out of the running. Pulis left on 14 August, just 48 hours before the new Premier League season. Crystal Palace managers since Warnock left in 2010 Keith Millen (caretaker) 14 Aug - present Curtis Fleming & Lennie Lawrence (caretakers) 24 Oct 2012 - 3 Nov 2013 Tony Pulis 24 Nov 2013 - 14 Aug 2014 Dougie Freedman 1 Jan 2011 - 24 Oct 2012 Keith Millen (caretaker) 23 Oct 2013 - 24 Nov 2013 George Burley 17 June 2010 - 1 Jan 2011 Ian Holloway 3 Nov 2012 - 23 Oct 2013 Paul Hart 2 Mar 2010 - 2 May 2010 Warnock has been out of work since parting company with Leeds in April 2013, although in March he turned down the opportunity to manage Nottingham Forest. Warnock's stint as Palace manager ended as the Eagles went into administration and suffered a subsequent 10-point deduction. The club dropped from Championship play-off contenders to a battle against relegation, which they narrowly avoided. Former Stoke City boss Pulis won the Premier League's manager of the year award last season after guiding Palace from bottom of the table, the position they occupied when he took over from Ian Holloway in November 2013, to an 11th-placed finish. But he became frustrated by the failure to land a number of summer transfer targets and left the club by mutual consent only 48 hours before the start of the new season. Mackay had been the favourite for the job until allegations emerged of misconduct during his time at Cardiff. He has admitted sending offensive text messages, allegedly shared with Iain Moody, who worked as head of recruitment at Cardiff before being sacked in October and quit his role as Palace's sporting director last week after the claims emerged.

Good lluck to him , the first chat with Puncheon should be interesting Jason Puncheon fined £15,000 over Neil Warnock Twitter row Crystal Palace winger Jason Puncheon has been fined £15,000 by the Football Association and warned about his future conduct for Twitter comments he made in relation to former boss Neil Warnock. Puncheon took exception to criticism from Warnock about his penalty miss in a 2-0 defeat by Tottenham in January. Warnock said he would not have trusted Puncheon, 27, to take the penalty. Puncheon retaliated with derogatory messages on the social networking platform, which he later deleted. He said he would accept "banter" and "opinions" over his miss and wrote: "As a man I will live with that, which is fine, but I will not live with [Warnock's] opinion." The FA found the former Southampton player had "failed to act in the best interests of the game and/or acted in a manner which was improper and/or used abusive and/or insulting words". Warnock, who made his criticisms of the penalty on radio station Talksport, signed Puncheon on loan for four months from September 2011 when he was manager of QPR. He said: "There's no way I would've trusted him with a penalty. You've got to have somebody a little bit more cool - and he's not like that, Jason. "He can whack a 35-yard free-kick in here and there but a penalty, with all the pressure on him at a place like White Hart Lane... not in a million years for me." www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/26431116

Warlock always said he wanted a good go at Prem management. Now he has his chance. 3rd failure coming up?! Hope he does ok because I liked him. He wasn't given any money at Sheffield and his reported 'war chest' when QPR came up was one and a half million (?, is that right?) until TF took over and he had no time (same as at Palace maybe, a few days to the end of the window - perhaps he'll take SWP off our hands). It remains to be seen what he would have done if given Hughes' budget and time.

Really surprised that Palace have given the job to somebody who has always failed at the top level. Surely they dont think he can as successful as Pullis

He did a good job for us but I don't wish him any luck. If they finish 17th and we finish 18th I will be gutted as up until today Palace have looked in disarray and that would only have help them go down.
When your a club like ours there is very little room for sentiment and I admit I find myself cheering on all the top teams against the lower teams when we're in the Premier League as there results can only help us. Must admit though I draw the line at Chelsea!!!!!

Talks**t mentioned this on their Hawksby and Jacobs show. Apparently Warnock was unlucky to be sacked from Rangers and we went down anyway!. Actually we stayed up after the best ever game/finish to a season in premiership history (who needs research eh). Hughes kept us UP, no one remembers this it seems.....

If Redknapp left today, who would have wanted Warnock as his replacement?
Not me ( and I didn't want Warnock axed by QPR)
But would have thought many better options

I expect he will go after Zaha as the two worked together when Warnock was there . My guess is Palace will get Zaha now . Pulis didnt rate him anyway . Maybe Warnock will get more from him .
Adel would not play for Palace in a million years and I dont think Clint would change now as he knows he will be part of our coaching set up some day .

I hate Palace but I think Warnock is a great manager and he should still be at QPR , was treated appallingly and deserves another crack in the premiership . Hope he keeps them up but not at our expense , better manager than Redknapp !

Also took us from relegation fodder to champions in a season and a half , deserved to be treated with more respect for that alone , Hughes is a w****r who got lucky that season , should never have got the job anyway . The only thing Warnock got wrong was signing SWP on a long contract , hopefully he'll do us a favour and take him to Palace !

Hardly relegation fodder, we had the 2nd biggest budget in the championship that season and signed plenty of players. I agree warnock was unlucky due to the fact flav was trying to sell the club and transfers were restricted at the start of the prem campaign. I question warnocks ability to sign and manage top level players. As for hughes, beating Liverpool,Arsenal, Spurs, Swansea and Stoke on the bounce was hardly luck, and he has done a good job at skoke so far.

But when Warnock took over, we WERE plummeting towards Div 3 After Hart/Hartford... That's the point I was trying to make and whatever is said Hughes is a w****r who will surely come unstuck eventually and Stoke were already well established already ! Hughes cannot be defended with the shower he left us with !

But when Warnock took over, we WERE plummeting towards Div 3 After Hart/Hartford... Not exactly plummeting we just kept sacking all our managers!. Warnocks mission was to keep us up and then given a huge budget to win promotion. He done a great job but he had the tools. Not so clever in the prem and I doubt even with the funds he would have suceeded. We will see how he gets on with Palace.

View AttachmentView AttachmentWhere did you get that table Kilburn? I've looked and cant find it (but I am sh*te at searching mind). I was wanting to have a look a the previous season to see if the wage bill had leapt from, say £10m to accommodate Warnock or if it was already close to the £29m in that table. Also all the players he bought were on the cheap and only represent workaday players - Derry, Hill, Mackie etc (that's no insult to those players by the way and they were loyal to the club) whereas Hughes bought Granero, Park, Bosingwa etc (who I've got lots of insults lined up for and the word loyalty isn't in their vocabulary-I do know very well of course that that's the way of it these days). Some interesting points being made on both sides here.

Clint Hill on Warnock Standard Neil Warnock can get Crystal Palace firing like Tony Pulis did, says Clint Hill Man with a plan: Neil Warnock is the manager to give Palace a lift, says Hill Nik Simon Published: 29 August 2014 Updated: 08:52, 29 August 2014 Clint Hill believes Neil Warnock can have a similar impact at Crystal Palace to his predecessor Tony Pulis. Warnock’s surprise return to Selhurst Park was confirmed on Wednesday and the 65‑year-old has the unenviable challenge of taking over last season’s manager of the year, who walked out two days before the new campaign. Hill has played for both coaches with Pulis signing him for Stoke in 2003 before Warnock took him to Palace in 2007 and then Queens Park Rangers in 2010. The QPR skipper thinks Palace have picked the right man to kick-start the club after a chaotic start to the season. “I was a bit shocked by the news, like everyone else,” said Hill. “But I always knew he wanted one last crack at it and he’ll definitely give the club a lift. “He could give the lads another 15 or 20 per cent. There are a few guys there who have played under him before and he will get that team going. “Maybe he can have the same impact as Pulis but who knows. Every manager is different. They all have different approaches and different tactics. “After some injuries at Stoke, Neil is the guy who restored my love for the game and I’ve got a lot to thank him for. “He will go in there with confidence and give a clean slate to everybody. He’s a nice character and the lads will want to play for him.” Pulis left the club just eight months into his reign after disagreements with the board over transfers. Wilfried Zaha is the first arrival under Warnock and co-chairman Steve Parish has promised to give his new manager the final say in all player recruitment. Warnock’s first match in charge will be against Newcastle tomorrow and Hill expects his former boss to take full control of footballing matters. “He wants the respect of everybody and he will get that,” said Hill (below with Warnock). “Knowing him personally, I know that he likes to be hands on with everything. I don’t really know what the situation is there behind the scenes but I’m sure on the pitch and with the lads he will be fantastic.” www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/neil-warnock-can-get-crystal-palace-firing-like-tony-pulis-did-says-clint-hill-9697309.html

But Warnock didn't want to leave QPR... + Managers (and players) are going to switch Clubs - Even Stock, Venables, Holloway etc... Yes I know and of course they do. Buts its the manner they sometimes makeout this club has the best fans and best team I have ever managed then say the same at the next club and In Warnock yesterday saying this is the only Club I would of come back too . Rubbish, he would have come back to any Prem Club that wanted him in the south of England. It happens. I certaintly dont hate Hughes or Warnock much rather they fail rather than us . Warnock never replied to those emails either
