I think he'll get more Chelsea stick for joining a Chelsea PL Championship rival than if he'd joined QPR, which I think Chelsea fans would have accepted. ("Long tradition of aging Chelsea players joining QPR!)
As to if he'd joined QPR. Yes. Maybe. But I was never a strong advocate of that. All a question of how much would have cost

The problem is with rich owners that own more than one football club as with Manchester City. What happens in the future when the UEFA Champions League (my logo!) becomes the FIFA World League and New York play Manchester City for real rather than just for show?
Or…….will it always be for show with a pre-determnined result?

The World Series wasn't an example of American conceit. It was a competition created by a newspaper called "the world"

The World Series wasn't an example of American conceit. It was a competition created by a newspaper called "the world" I thought that for years, until this afternoon as I was going to post similar. I googled it just in case. Turns out its an 'urban myth', according to google anyway.

Whilst looking that up it seems that at least some think that America built the Titanic and were responsible for re starting the Olympic Games. Odd some of these web sites, well, the opinions anyway.

That's really interesting I had always taken it as fact that it was named after the bey York world. It just shows you how perception of history changes based on new or rediscovered information. Must read up on this later

Seems like I opened a can of worms here with a light hearted comment. I must be deadly serious from now on. My first mistake was to omit the word "North" when saying the World Series is only open to American reams. The actual restriction is to "North American" teams. The myth regarding the name is that it came from the New York World newspaper but this has been proven to be totally incorrect by review of the newspaper's and sports archives. The play-off between the Al and NL champions was originally called the Championship of the World, or World's Championship Series and became shortened to World Series over time. The use of World in the name was prompted by the Spalding sports company who had hoped it would attract the sport to other countries such as the UK. One thing for certain is that I have just returned from Boston - no I did no go to sort out Remy - and while there enquired about tickets for the 3 games between the Red Sox (Boston team) and the Blue Jays (Toronto CANADA) at Fenway Park. The price for 3 games would have bought me a season ticket at the R's. I'll stick to football posts from now on. Dude, you can get seats in the Bleachers for $30USD. Prices are here: TicketsI love Baseball and have been a Jays fan since late 80's when my sister emigrated to Toronto.
