Our own Joey says England will qualify. Who are we to disagree?! From skysports www1.skysports.com/football/news/12040/9351964?World Cup: Joey Barton believes England will beat Uruguay on their way to a place in the last 16 Last Updated: 17/06/14 1:01pm Former England international Joey Barton is confident Roy Hodgson's side can qualify for the latter stages of the World Cup despite last week's defeat by Italy. And the Queens Park Rangers midfielder, who made one appearance for his country as a substitute against Spain in 2007, says England should take advantage of Luis Suarez's lack of match practice when they face Uruguay this Thursday. Speaking to Sky Sports News, he said: "I think they'll go through. They had a reasonable level of performance against Italy but unfortunately were not able to win the game. "But I think they will be good enough to get through this group. Obviously everyone will be focused massively on the Uruguay game, where Luis Suarez will probably start despite his recent injury. "I expect him to start as they need to win the game as much as us, but I fancy them to beat Uruguay. "Costa Rica after that could be a potential banana skin but I think the momentum of winning against Uruguay will be enough to carry them through." Joey Barton says everyone should get behind England but says a loss against Uruguay could lead to Roy Hodgson being under pressure. Despite his assertions that he is now fully fit following keyhole surgery on his knee, Barton believes Suarez's spell on the sidelines could hinder the Liverpool striker when the sides clash in Sao Paulo. "A three or four-week turnaround from his injury is not ideal," added the former Manchester City and Newcastle midfielder. "But we have seen in the Premier League this year that even if he is not 100 per cent fit, he is a threat. "He probably won't be fully fit and I think England must expose that, although a less than 100 per cent Luis Suarez is still a heck of a player."

From the Daily Mail! England had a better World Cup team in South Africa, says Harry Redknapp Roy Hodgson's side lost 2-1 against Italy in Group D on Saturday Raheem Sterling and Daniel Sturridge impressed for the Three Lions Redknapp doesn't believe Gary Cahill and Phil Jagielka are good enough By JOHN DRAYTON PUBLISHED: 23:36 AEST, 17 June 2014 | UPDATED: 23:36 AEST, 17 June 2014 England’s team humiliated by Germany four years ago – to have included Matthew Upson and David James - was better than the current crop in Brazil, claims Harry Redknapp. The Queens Park Rangers manager, who was close to landing the national job when Roy Hodgson took over in 2012, believes it’s ‘nonsense’ to suggest that the side to take the game to Italy on Saturday is the best in recent memory. They face Uruguay on Thursday and still have qualification from Group D in their own hands. More... England will face Uruguay in Sao Paulo in temperatures 10C lower than London with weather set to dip ahead of decisive clash Daniel Sturridge: My mum told me to mash it up in Brazil... and why I’m loving life playing with Danny Welbeck Joe Hart caught kicking an advertising hoarding during England's World Cup defeat to Italy in Manaus Daniel Sturridge vows to do whatever is required to defeat Uruguay England will face Uruguay in Sao Paulo in temperatures 10C lower than London with weather set to dip ahead of decisive clash Raheem Sterling and Daniel Sturridge’s high octane performances against the Italians drew sustained praise in an encouragingly attacking display, but - despite public opinion of the England side being at its highest for at least eight years - Redknapp won’t believe the hype. ‘I’ve heard a few people say that this is the best England side we’ve had in recent years, but that’s nonsense,’ he told 666bet. ‘It’s a good side, but no disrespect to Phil Jagielka and Gary Cahill, they’re not in the same league as John Terry and Rio Ferdinand when they were in their prime. ‘We had a stronger side in South Africa.’ Hodgson’s side were undone defensively during their opener, with Redknapp adding: ‘We played well and were unlucky to lose against the Italians. We deserved a point really. I was very impressed with Sterling, he was excellent and showed a lot of skill. ‘The three young forwards of him, Daniel Sturridge and Danny Welbeck, looked good and had a real go. Ross Barkley was also impressive when he came on – it’s great to see the youngsters doing well.’ Read more: www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/worldcup2014/article-2660172/England-better-World-Cup-team-South-Africa-says-Harry-Redknapp.html#ixzz34uJ5YZXh Follow us: @mailonline on Twitter | DailyMail on Facebook

World Cup day seven: Palace hero joins Chelsea, Spurs and Arsenal stars in action

The London-based Belgium big names failed to make much of an impact but the dark horses got off to a win in their opener – so now on to the second set of games.
Brazil stumbled to a draw last night too so today we are hoping for some better displays from our boys in South America.
Here is a look at the players in action today and a prediction of just how they will fare:
Group B – Australia v Netherlands (Wednesday 18th June – 5pm)
After opening day defeat for Australia against Chile, the Socceroos will need to get something here against a Holland side that dismantled Spain last Friday. Crystal Palace midfield man Mile Jedinak will again be their main body in midfield but he will need help against the likes of Arjen Robben and Wesley Sneijder. Former Millwall fans’ favourite Tim Cahill will be their main goal threat but they look up against it. Former Chelsea winger Robben was the man of the match against Spain and will again link up with Robin van Persie in attack.
Prediction: Australia 0-2 Netherlands
Group B – Spain v Chile (Wednesday 18th June – 8pm)
A nightmare start to the World Cup for Spain may be exaggerated further this evening as they could well be knocked out with defeat against Chile. Chelsea trio Cesar Azpilicueta, Fernando Torres and Cesc Fabregas will all be hoping to start although future Blues man Diego Costa looks set to keep his place. Arsenal midfielder Santi Cazorla has been underused by Spain and so it may be his time to shine if given the chance. Chile impressed against Australia last time out and a win here will guarantee their spot in the knock out stages.
Prediction: Spain 2-2 Chile
Group A – Cameroon v Croatia (Wednesday 18th June – 11pm)
After a defeat each in their opening games – it is win or bust for both Cameroon and Croatia. With Brazil’s draw with Mexico last night this group will be blown wide open with a win for either side and so the pressure will be on. Tottenham defender Benoit Assou Ekotto and QPR’s Stephane Mbia are set to start alongside former Gunner Alex Song and released Samuel Eto’o in a Cameroon side that desperately need to improve. Croatia were unlucky not to get anything from their clash with Brazil and should be full of confidence going into this one with former north London trio Luka Modric, Vedran Corluka and Eduardo hoping to make the difference.
Prediction: Cameroon 1-3 Croatia

Now this explains Uraguay's poor showing. It wasn't that Suarez was missing! 17 June 2014 Last updated at 13:41 Uruguay squad's caramel spread confiscated in Brazil Dulce de leche is extremely popular in Uruguay Brazilian officials say they confiscated 39kg (86lb) of caramel spread from Uruguay's football team as it arrived in Brazil for the World Cup. The spread, called dulce de leche, is extremely popular in Uruguay but the Brazilian authorities said that as it was made with milk, it needed sanitary documentation which was lacking. Some fans are already blaming Uruguay's shock 3-1 defeat to Costa Rica on the lack of dulce de leche. Uruguay will play England on Thursday. The dulce de leche was seized from the team after it landed at Confins airport near their training camp in Sete Lagoas. Uruguay fans fear their team has been thrown out of kilter due to the lack of dulce de leche Deprived of dulce de leche, Uruguay fans have had to resort to other sweets An official with the Brazilian agriculture department told Reuters news agency that the Uruguayans could have the dulce de leche back "as soon as they can produce the necessary documents". "Or they can pick it up on their way out of Brazil," the official added. It is not clear if one person carried the entire 39kg-stash or if the jars of the popular sweet paste had been distributed between the players. Former Uruguay goalkeeper Juan Castillo said the team had also taken dulce de leche to the World Cup in South Africa, where they had not had any problems at customs. Dulce de leche is made by cooking down milk with sugar, baking soda and vanilla extract. It is very popular spread on bread, pancakes and biscuits, or poured over fruit or ice-cream.

Couldn't agree more Sharky, they put in a massive effort and played very well today. They at the very least deserved a draw.
