Albert "Smudger" William SmithSigned May 1939. Apps:144 Goals:4 In World War II Albert Smith received the BEM (the Medal of the Order of the British Empire for Meritorious Service, usually known as the British Empire Medal - awarded for acts of bravery) in Italy. Albert was a member of the 1947-48 Divison III (South) Championship winning team From his Granddaughter. Albert Smith was my grandad. He sadly passed away 9th June 1992 aged 73 in Bexley, Kent, we moved him closer to us when he became ill with Alzheimer's (probably caused by heading those heavy footballs too often). He remained best friends with Arthur Jefferson, who we called Uncle Arthur, until the end. His family remain loyal QPR fans and his great grandson is named after Bradley Allen. My grandad loved teaching and working for the club, he used to take me there sometimes when he helped out in the tuck shop. He was a Villa fan as a child but was QPR through and through after his time there, his caricature from the programme hung in his hallway. He kept a scrap book of his football career from his time playing for the British Army, through QPR and ending at Dover. The chip shop clipping is in there along with many other photos and programmes. It is lovely to see that people still remember him fondly, he was a wonderful man and I miss him every day.
