Can anyone tell me if these two players are still alive, or indeed what's happened to them ? Saw a picture on this board of the 48/49 side and both were there.
Both use to teach me football at my old school Cristopher Wren and I think about them often. Would be great if anyone has any information on them.

Jeff sadly died in 1997 but not sure about Albert Smith. I am pretty sure he will be dead by now. If he is still around he will be 95 years old. I saw both of them play very many times and they served very tasty fish and chips in their shop too! Bushman may know more.

Arthur Jefferson and Albert "Smudger" Smith in the their Fish & Chip Shop. Smudger has also gone. in World War II Albert Smith received the BEM (the Medal of the Order of the British Empire for Meritorious Service, usually known as the British Empire Medal - awarded for acts of bravery) in Italy. Jefferson lived in Bloemfontein Rd. I believe his son still goes to the Rangers. They were both very nice guys and like you qprian I also had them as my games masters at the Wren.

Thanks Bushman. Sad to hear this but great memories and they had great knowledge. This was 1980-85 when they trained me and their entusiasm and genuine love of football and helping others was amazing. Smith helped me as a defender so much.
This shambles of a squad we currently have assebled at QPR would do well to show just 5% of the passion and professionalism that Albert and Arthur showed !

Have said this before but will repeat myself. If Jeff did not kick the ball over the stand roof at least once and end up plastered in mud, this meant he had not had a good game!

I never saw these two play but Never the less I have a connection.
In the 1950's Arthur Jefferson also had a Newsagents in Acton Vale/Uxbridge Rd right at the very end of Askew Rd. I used to buy my comics there. At the time I lived at 46 Askew Rd nearby.
Scarlett pimple has already mentioned Albert Smith and the Harrow Club. There was more than one Smith that played post War for QPR FC. If this was the Smith that was born in Stoke on Trent then I went to school with his Son at Wendell, Victoria and up to 1963 Henry Compton when the Smith family moved from Wendell Rd to the Wembly area..Yes and when involved with Harrow he supplied them with QPR hooped shirts...When I played junior football for Sulgrave versus Harrow in the 1960's it was difficult playing against those colours! lol
Robert Smith the son later became a policeman but we lost contact in the 70's. Also Robert often told me that his Father as a kid/ teenager was a fanatical Villa supporter.
Need to check though if this was the Albert Smith that was born in Stoke otherwise I am talking about a different QPR Smith

Born at Fenton, Stoke-on-Trent. He was with Birmingham for 2 seasons before joining Rangers. So there is your Villa connection.

What a lovely thread for a change. maude I was a rugby club boy too along with Dennis Wise whereas Les Ferdinand was harrow club having lived in barenden walk next to latimer Road station. @peeweebee I went to the wren in Bloemfontein road and dennis and les both played the year above me. The Harrow club were our whipping boys and always a good banker for four points a season,! Hehe
