If worst comes to worst, Gianni will just have to fall in love with yet another team Birmingham Mail Chinese-Hong Kong consortium amongst front-runners for takeover 27 Oct 2012 08:00 Colin Tattum gives us the latest news on the proposed takeover of Birmingham City The takeover of Birmingham City is still some way off. But it has emerged that a Chinese-Hong Kong consortium are in the running. It is understood that there are now three serious players in the mix to take the club out of Carson Yeung’s hands. A group from Thailand have cooled their interest, but Gianni Paladini’s Italian-backed conglomerate are still very keen. There has also been strong interest from India. Peter Pannu, Blues acting chairman and CEO of parent company Birmingham International Holdings Limited, has been leading negotiations. Pannu has yet to receive a formal bid for Blues, so the saga is likely to drag on for some time yet, probably into the New Year. Pannu announced to the Hong Kong Stock Exchange on October 9 that BIHL were in ‘preliminary discussions’ with two parties. They signed confidentiality agreements and were provided with relevant financial information - ‘due diligence materials’ - but no binding agreements were entered into. The Birmingham Mail revealed earlier in October that four groups - at least - were keen on Blues: Paladini’s, one from India, and from the China/south east Asia region, including the Thais. Now it appears that the field has whittled down, with a Chinese-Hong Kong group among the front-runners. Solihull businessman Paladini went public with his intentions in September, claiming an incremental bid worth £25 million had been lodged. Pannu dismissed it out of hand at the time, but talks have continued through their respective lawyers and Paladini’s backers are understood to be prepared to go higher, past the £30 million mark. The key to a major breakthrough in the takeover is when an offer is actually formally put down in writing. When that does materialise, BIHL and Blues will have to make an announcement to stock exchanges, in Hong Kong and here. And a clearer picture should then emerge about what is in store for Blues. Yeung, through his company Grandtop, which became BIHL, completed a £81.5 million buyout of Blues in October 2009. He stands trial in Hong Kong at the end of next month to answer charges of alleged money laundering worth £59.7 million. However, the outcome of his case is not necessarily going to impact on negotiations or the sale of Blues as Yeung has a 26 per cent stake of BIHL. And Pannu, as the CEO and managing director, has greater power now in calling the shots and all season has actively being drumming up interest in the club particularly in China and Hong Kong. www.birminghammail.net/sport/football/football-news/birmingham-city-takeover-update-chinese-hong-269239?

Gianni Getting Closer.. Former QPR chairman Gianni Paladini closing in on Birmingham City deal Gianni Paladini, the controversial former chairman of Queens Park Rangers, is hoping to conclude a deal to buy Birmingham City within the next few days. By Jason Burt11 Paladini attended Birmingham’s 1-0 victory at Leeds United yesterday and was also at the midweek draw away to Millwall as talks continue over a takeover of the Championship club. It’s understood that Paladini’s bid does, despite his denials, include Flavio Briatore, who was formerly a part-owner of QPR, and that their consortium is offering just over £15 million as an initial payment for Birmingham. This will be supplemented by a further £20 million in investment – mainly on the squad – and another £10 million should the club return to the Premier League. It is understood, according to sources, that the deal is “90 per cent” concluded, but Birmingham yesterday denied that any agreement was imminent. As the deal has still to be finalised the Football League, as yet, has not been notified. When contacted by The Sunday Telegraph yesterday, Paladini confirmed that he was interested in the club but suggested that current owner, Hong Kong businessman Carson Yeung – who is facing trial for alleged money-laundering – may be in talks with another bidder. Under the terms of Paladini’s offer it’s understood he will take a 40 per-cent stake, with the remaining 60 per cent being acquired by Briatore. www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/birmingham-city/9638620/Former-QPR-chairman-Gianni-Paladini-closing-in-on-Birmingham-City-deal.html

;D Birmingham Mail Birmingham City takeover: Fans react to Gianni Paladini news 29 Oct 2012 11:49
Birmingham City fans say Gianni Paladini's local links make him a strong suitor for the clubwww.birminghammail.net/sport/football/football-news/birmingham-city-takeover-gianni-paladini-272915Birmingham City fans have given their verdict on the news that Gianni Paladini may be increasing his offer for Blues to around £30 million. Solihull businessman Paladini is back in the hunt for the St Andrew's outfit but it has emerged that a Chinese-Hong Kong consortium is also in the running as the Blues takeover saga took a new twist at the weekend. It is understood that there are now three serious players in the mix trying to wrestle control of the club from Carson Yeung. Carson Yeung with Blues chairman Vico Hui (left) and vice-chairman Peter Pannu. Carson Yeung with Blues chairman Vico Hui (left) and vice-chairman Peter Pannu. Paladini has been spotted at Blues' last two games, and it is understood he had some of his Italian backers with him at the Den to watch them against Millwall last week. Now Blues fans have had their say. And Paladini's local links could prove to be a big factor in winning them over. Read the views below. Do you agree? What do you think? Because of the QPR documentary most of us don't like the idea of Paladini involved with Blues. But Briatore was the main problem with QPR not Paladini. Paladini is an adopted Brummie, who knows his football, and QPR did get promoted. If we get bought again by another Asian based group, I can see history repeating itself. Look at what an Asian consortium have done to Blackburn. I hope something is sorted before January, we seem to back on track on the pitch. Some stability in the board-room, and who knows? We could be in the promotion shake-up come May. Standenberg At least this guy knows about football, and seems genuine. Tracy Doherty Paladini is UK based and understands football far more than someone from the other side of the world! He has strong links in English football going back 30 years and I agree entirely that the issues at QPR were linked to Briatore NOT Paldini. To mention the Italian economy in a silly link is frankly stupid beyond words especially as Italy is actually in a less poor position than the uk is - but lets not let politics cloud this issue. Paladini lives within 20 miles, he has a strong consortium of football related money from Italy and VERY powerful UK friends one of whom is the greatest player we have ever had the other a Scottish international with substantial personal assets and strong links to our own messiah.....(you work it out!).....those 2 would be on our board with a small personal stake but bring years of footballing expertise at the VERY highest level......not a clown like McManaman! This it strikes me is a SERIOUS BID and we should all hope it emerges victorious! NorthWalesBlue Gianni Paladini prepares a new £30million bid that's Italian-backed. I'd rather not have any Italians running Birmingham City, as their country is on the brank of collapse. Roger Mee I agree with all those supporters who have posted that we don't want another Asian based group owning Blues. The board needs to be based in the UK and preferably in West Midlands. We need directors with local interests in our club. They should be based in the UK with the principle members of the Board attending every game home and away. They need to understand how our manager and his team work and they should provide the necessary funds to strengthen the team with quality players signed on a permanent basis. I am sure we will then become the force that we all crave with a team that becomes the best side to represent Birmingham. Paul Mallett At the moment I don't mind who buys us. As long as we become stable and they invest in the team - bring it on. A strong Blues team in the premiership is what I want. KRO CalBlue I agree we do not want another Chinese/Hong Kong buyer, unfortunately we have a Hong Kong owner selling, so it seems more likely that he will sell to his fellow Hong Kong businessmen. Having read about Gianni Paladini I think he will be good for the club and as it is a;ready mentioned he is an adopted Brummie and has the clubs interests at heart. KRO Chris Walker Bite there hand off I say, anything is goto be better than the mess were in,get the new board in and approach harry Redknapp as the next manager kro keep the faith Mark Barnett Hard to get excited by any of them. All seem to be looking for a fast buck none have any real connection to the club. worrying times. Ambrose Boxwell Yes take him he is local and knows English football and must have learned from QPR shambles x but the strange thing is I saw an Indian consortium go into St Andrews Thursday suited and booted. kro Ian Bcfc Starks

DIdnt GIANNI "He Saved the Club" PALADINI Categorically Say "No Briatore Involvement with Birmingham Deal? ITN
Deal to buy Birmingham City may be close to completion- last updated Mon 29 Oct 2012 Central Tonight understands that a deal to buy Birmingham City may be close to completion. Former Queens Park Rangers chairman, Gianni Paladini is said to be close to gaining control of the club. Our Central Tonight reporter Mark Gough has, in the last few minutes, spoken to someone close to the deal. "Because of Stock market rules Gianni Paladidin is forbidden to say anything public about the deal , but my understanding is his bid to buy the club is about 90 per cent there. He's got the money in place - along with old QPR pal Flavio Briatore. "They're prepared to offer £15 million as an initial payment for ST ANDREWS ULAY Birmingham City, 20 million to invest in the squad and a further £10 million if they return to the Premier League. "There is another bidder in the wings, but Gianni Paladini wants to know that Birmingham City is serious about his bid before he takes any further formal steps. Anyone wanting to buy the club has to pay £60,000 to go through the Birmingham City books - that's known as due diligence. he doesn't want to spend even £60,000 if the club's going to offer a deal to another bidder." – Central Tonight reporter Mark Gough But Mark Gough Central Tonight reporter says there are some stumbling blocks: "The club does however have a lot of debt - £20 million in loans from Carson Yeung and Birmingham International Holdings - so any new buyer would have to sort them out. "Well Gianni and the Italian team I'm told has the money. Gianni Paladini lives in Solihull, he's a huge fan of the club - his sons go to the games and he's recently been sen at Blues away games. "The only formal statement from the club tonight is via the Hong Kong Stock market where it's listed which says that they've been approached by two bidders, discussions are at early stages. This statement was first put out on October 9 - but the club's not expanding on that, but tonight -it looks like Birmingham City may soon have new owners - and very possibly, Gianni Paladini. – Central Tonight reporter Mark Gough www.itv.com/news/central/2012-10-29/deal-to-buy-birmingham-city-may-be-close-to-completion/

The spin machine! "Paladini spent eight years in the Hoops' boardroom and played a key role in their rise from League One to the Premier League." MIRROR - By James Nursey Out of the Blue? Heat on Clark as Birmingham buy-out battle gathers pace 30 Oct 2012 22:29 Ex-QPR chairman Paladini, who got through 12 managers at Loftus Road, in in talks to complete a £30m deal before the winter window opens One and done? Clark has only been in charge of Birmingham since June One and done? Clark has only been in charge of Birmingham since June Clive Rose Lee Clark faces an uncertain future at Birmingham as Gianni Paladini steps up his bid for the cash-strapped Championship club. The Mirror revealed in September that former QPR chairman Paladini wants to buy Blues. The Italian is now in talks over an improved £30million bid to buy-out embattled Birmingham president Carson Yeung. Fallen Hong Kong tycoon Yeung faces a money-laundering trial in his native Far East next month. His assets have been frozen and Birmingham are continuing to make cut-backs and redundancies following relegation in 2011. Five training-ground staff, including the club’s popular player-liaison officer Vic Callow, have become the latest to be shown the door. More players sales are planned for January, with keeper Jack Butland and winger Nathan Redmond set to go unless City find a new owner. Yeung ideally wants to sell to a Hong Kong consortium, who are in talks over a £40m deal. But Solihull-based Paladini, 65, is on the ground in the Second City and ready to do a quick deal before the January window. Paladini spent eight years in the Hoops' boardroom and played a key role in their rise from League One to the Premier League. However, he and wealthy pal Flavio Briatore famously went through 12 managers in their time at Loftus Road. And if Paladini takes control, first-year boss Clark will be under instant pressure at a club languishing 17th in the Championship after coming fourth last term. www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/birmingham-lee-clarks-future-is-uncertain-1408552

Telegraph Gianni Paladini's consortium table £30million bid to buy Birmingham City from Carson Yeung Gianni Paladini’s consortium has made an improved offer of around £30 million for Birmingham City and is confident of completing a deal before the end of the year. Gianni Paladini has not been involved in football since he left his role as QPR chairman Looking for a route back: Gianni Paladini has not been involved in football since he left his role as QPR chairman Photo: PA John Percy By John Percy 11:17PM GMT 01 Nov 2012 CommentsComment Paladini and his group have returned with a second bid for the Championship club and were last night waiting for the green light from acting Birmingham chairman Peter Pannu to enter negotiations. The former Queens Park Rangers chairman is fronting the bid and has told sources that he is hopeful of their prospective takeover accelerating over the weekend. Birmingham's current owner Carson Yeung, who is facing money laundering charges in Hong Kong, would ideally want £40 million but Paladini’s party are believed to be the only ones showing a serious interest in buying the club. Birmingham are facing a potential crisis in January if a sale cannot be agreed, with key players including England goalkeeper Jack Butland and winger Nathan Redmond likely to be offloaded to keep the club afloat. But Paladini and his group - who could include Flavio Briatore - are determined to complete a buy-out and want to take Birmingham back to the Premier League. Related Articles New contracts for both Butland and Redmond would be on the agenda, while funds will be made available for the manager to make signings in the transfer window. It is uncertain whether Lee Clark, the current manager, will remain in charge if the takeover is completed. Paladini, who lives in Solihull, attended Birmingham’s 1-0 win at Leeds last weekend and has been out of football since leaving QPR in November 2011. www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/birmingham-city/9649930/Gianni-Paladinis-consortium-table-30million-bid-to-buy-Birmingham-City-from-Carson-Yeung.html

As I reposted in other thread today, Gianni in 2005... : A flashback From October 2005 Kilburn Times/Ben Kosky interview with...Gianni "....fail, I put my hands up and goodbye. If there's someone out there who thinks they can do a better job, buy us all out."But why didn't they come before, when the club was in a lower division and they'd have had to pay the taxman's bill or the club would be closed down and forget about promotion?" QPR have been losing money for several years. Can you see the club breaking even or even making a profit in the near future?" Forget the past - it's up to us now and there's no more sweet sugar daddy, it's all on the shoulders of myself and my other partners, Barnaby and Wanlock. I'm protecting my own investment and by doing that, I'm protecting QPR as well, simple as that. "We'll try to take this club forward and make sure that, in a year or two, we run it as a profit-maker. If we lose money at the end of the season, there won't be the old situation where I need to borrow this or that - it's our fault and we put in money out of our own pockets."If we are successful, QPR are successful, the fans will be happy and there's no secret agenda, no skeletons. "....How is the club being run since Mark Devlin was made redundant?" We got rid of the chief executive position because I think we couldn't afford it. I don't follow the idea of a chief executive or managing director or general manager - it's our money, it's our job to be here and make sure the club is run properly." When I came here there were 54 people on the staff and the wage bill was bigger than the wage bill of the playing staff - how can you sustain that? Now everything functions okay and the club is under control."I've been 30 years in football and I'm here every day. There are others who are employed by the people from Monte Carlo and they pay their own way - it doesn't cost QPR anything." How much of that 30 million comes from Gianni's own personal pocket? Well given he had no money when he was chairman, the only money he can possibly have to invest in them is any profit he made from selling us to TF. Now if you believe the bid is £30mil and GP is getting 40% that should involve him stumping up £12mil. I suppose it's possible. No one has ever conclusively proved to me that the tooth fairy doesn't exist either. Laughable nonsense if the figures are to be believed in any shape or form.

I guess either he misses watching football matches - and doesnt want to buy his own ticket Or he thinks there's money to be made from being involved Birmingham Football Club Personally I'm just so disillusioned. I thought he loved only us. And he was only involved with QPR because of that love - and great personal sacrifice to himself Soccernet Paladini consortium in Birmingham offer November 2, 2012 A consortium led by Gianni Paladini is reported to have offered around £30 million to take control of Championship club Birmingham City, according to reports. BBC West Midlands said Paladini, who is based in nearby Solihull, had submitted the offer to acting Birmingham chairman Peter Pannu. The development comes only a few weeks after Pannu told reporters that he was in talks with two groups interested in taking over at St Andrews. This is believed to be the second attempt the Paladini consortium has made to buy the Blues, who are 17th in the table, with an offer of around £5 million less having been turned down earlier in the year. Birmingham have had a turbulent recent time financially, with part-owner Carson Yeung due to be tried in Hong Kong on money-laundering charges. That means any formal bid would need to be announced to the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. In March, a transfer embargo was placed on the club after they failed to file their accounts for 2010-11 on time - the second successive year in which they had not been filed on time. Although Birmingham have not been officially put on the market, Pannu - the chairman of the club's holding company, Birmingham International Holdings Ltd - had said he was looking for investment. Paladini, who left QPR in 2011 after almost eight years at Loftus Road, is understood to be keen for the deal to be completed before the New Year, which would mean the Blues could avoid needing to sell stars including goalkeeper Jack Butland in the January transfer window. Although the process appears to be moving fairly quickly, it is unclear when Paladini could receive a response from the club. But with other potential bidders appearing to have cooled their interest, he looks to be firm favourite. soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story/_/id/1211643?cc=5901
