Yep, another proud New Zealander. And in a QPR Report " Exclusive", LG with QPR signing Ryan Nelsen - hopefully QPR captain if it's not going to be Faurlin....

I' still waiting for the confirmation of our official website, but it's a done and dusted deal apparently. I spoke to some Spurs fans, and they seem to think he's a nice man to have around the training ground, a team player, but they didn't find him very good. Average they said.
But for me it's a good signing if we sign a higher profile centre-back. Nelsen will not complain being on the bench and he will keep the starters on their toes while he can also do a job as left or right back. Good player but we need more quality now.

I think theres alot more candidates to be Captain before Nelsen , Faurlin ,Ferdinand and others. Cant see Nelsen starting most games if honest see him being used in the 25 mainly as a sub that will step in if we get an injury Good thats its just a one year deal with options to turn into two , hopefully hes got over injuries now and can be a useful addition to the 25.

Ryan Nelsen: Veteran defender has confirmed he will be joining Queens Park Rangers Veteran centre-back Ryan Nelsen has confirmed he has agreed a deal to join Queens Park Rangers on a one-year contract after passing a medical. Sky Sports revealed earlier this week that the 34-year-old was set to move to Loftus Road after spending the second half of last season with Tottenham Hotspur. Nelsen made eight appearances after arriving at White Hart Lane on a short-term deal from Blackburn Rovers and his move to QPR will throw up a reunion with Mark Hughes. The New Zealand international was signed for Blackburn by Hughes from DC United midway through the 2004/05 season and he made over 200 appearances during his time at Ewood Park. He admits the chance to play under Hughes again was too good to pass up and he is hoping he can make a contribution for QPR next season. Big factor "I owe him pretty much everything. He gave me my chance (at Blackburn in 2005),'' Nelsen told Fairfax. "That was a big factor. I know Mark and his staff really well, and they all really helped me when I was first over here in England, so it's nice to go full circle towards the end of my career. Hopefully, I can still help them out.'' Although QPR narrowly avoided relegation from the Premier League last term, Nelsen believes he has made the right choice and is excited about the club's potential. He added: "They've got a lot of ambition - it seems like it's going to be a good fit." www1.skysports.com/football/news/11095/7817261/?

I presume he has not actually signed the contract - otherwise QPR would surely have announced it.

Ryan Nelsen signs with Queens Park Rangers TONY SMITH Last updated 05:00 16/06/2012 456 NEW CLUB: All Whites captain Ryan Nelsen has confirmed he has signed for English premier league club Queen's Park Rangers. All Whites captain Ryan Nelsen has confirmed he has signed for English premier league club Queen's Park Rangers, is fit to play in the London Olympic Games and expects to be available for New Zealand's World Cup qualifying games. Nelsen told The Press late last night from London that he had agreed to a one-year deal with the option of another season and had passed his medical at QPR. The centre back said his signing was due to be announced early today [NZ Time] after QPR had informed Tottenham Hotspur, his former club, who he joined last February on a six-month contract. Several clubs were chasing Nelsen but the Cantabrian said the chance to reunite with his former Blackburn Rovers manager Mark Hughes at QPR was too good to turn down. "I owe him pretty much everything,'' Nelsen said."He gave me my chance over here [at Blackburn in 2005]. "That was a big factor. I know Mark and his staff really well, they all really helped me when I was first over here in England, so it's nice to go full circle towards the end of my career. "Hopefully, I can still help them out.'' QPR finished 17th out of 20 in the premier league last season, narrowly avoiding relegation in their first season back in the top flight. But Nelsen said the future looked "quite exciting'' for the west London club."They've got a lot of ambition... it seems like it's going to be a good fit.'' Nelsen made eight appearances for fourth-placed Spurs, scoring one goal and helping them reach the FA Cup semi-final after switching from Blackburn, where he played around 200 games. He was signed as defensive cover by former Spurs manager Harry Redknapp, who told the media after Nelsen scored against Bolton Wanderers in the cup that he would be offering the Kiwi a new deal for next season. But Nelsen said Spurs' failure to make the European Champions League after Chelsea won the ECL title to grab the fourth English berth had "changed the makeup for all parties involved''. But he had nothing but praise for Redknapp, who left Spurs this week, and club chairman Daniel Levy and said he would be proud "to be able to say I played for Tottenham''. "I love the club. I really enjoyed my time there, it was a fantastic experience, a really good club with some great people.'' Nelsen's former United States Major League Soccer club DC United was interested in signing him and Nelsen said returning to America, his wife Monica's homeland, was "a consideration''. "But I always thought you should play at the highest level as long as you and when it came down to it, playing in the premier league is a real privilege. I wanted to keep going and keep enjoying the challenge that playing in the best league in the world provides. "It's really motivating, to tell the truth. I'm looking forward to getting another year under my belt after a disjointed season with the injury and moving clubs.'' Nelsen missed the All Whites' ill-fated Oceania Nations Cup tournament in the Solomon Islands with an ankle problem. He said he was "devastated for the guys and the team'' at the All Whites' 2-0 semi-final loss to New Caledonia which cost them a place in the Oceania final and a potential place at the 2013 Confederations Cup finals in Brazil. "Going to the Confederations Cup is really valuable. The guys who played in the one in South Africa [in 2009] before the World Cup finals, really benefited from it. "It's a huge loss and there should be some tough questions about went wrong. I'm sure New Zealand Football are doing that at the present moment.'' The All Whites face a World Cup home-and-away qualifying series against New Caledonia, the Solomon Islands and new Oceania champions Tahiti. Nelsen said QPR would have to release him for the World Cup games "because they fall in the Fifa [international] window''. After clinching the QPR deal, he has flown back to the US to resume a family holiday. But the 34-year-old - one of three permitted over-age players in the New Zealand under-23 Olympic squad - expects to link up with the team for warm-up matches in Japan and South Korea in mid-July. www.stuff.co.nz/auckland/local-sport/national-sport/7112951/Ryan-Nelsen-signs-with-Queens-Park-Rangers

Don't believe it. If he'd signed, the club would have announced it But if and when, will be an improvement over Perone and will fill a gap left by the departure of Borrowdale...

Of course you can never be sure when something you post or ask (and ask and ask) is responsible for the club doing or saying something.
(Just as you often have no way of knowing for sure that it was your post which elicited some post on another QPR Board)

RYAN NELSEN has agreed a one-year deal to join QPR. The New Zealand defender, 34, has been on the lookout for a new club since his release from Tottenham at the end of last season. His move to Loftus Road will see him link up with old boss Mark Hughes, who lured him to the Premier League while in charge of Blackburn in 2005. Nelson said: “I owe Hughes pretty much everything. He gave me my chance. “That was a big factor. I know him and his staff really well. They all really helped me when I was first over here in England, so it’s nice to go full circle towards the end of my career. “Hopefully, I can still help them out.” QPR avoided relegation on the final day of last term but Nelsen firmly believes the club are heading in the right direction. He added: “They’ve got a lot of ambition – it seems like it’s going to be a good fit.” www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/4376909/Ryan-Nelsen-agrees-one-year-contract-to-join-QPR-after-Tottenham-exit.html

I thought he was a solid, if unspectacular defender. He certainly didn't look out of place in our line-up and what he lacked in speed he made-up for in experience. I wouldn't want him as a first choice central defender but he's more than able to do a good job as a stand-in when injuries and suspensions come round. I wish him the best of luck with the SuperHoops!

We need speed in the backfield. Badly. Traore has it, but I missed him in later matches . At least I think so, but could be wrong. Names go quick, Ill remember in 2o minutes. Gramps knows what I mean, but the fullback for Nottm Forest, played for England, and manages the Juniours. His type of quality. Oh came back right now Stuart Pearce.

IF Ryan Nelsen can recapture his pre injury form of two seasons ago then this is a good signing.
At that time he was a lot better centre half & more important to Blackburn than Samba & his performances for New Zealand in the World Cup were quite outstanding.
Added to this Hughes knows him better than any other manager does.

I don't know too much about the guy, but I am pretty sure that I would rather see him coming on from the bench than One Size, Gabbidon, or Matthew Connolly.

Quintessential veteran depth player, a leader of men. Quality signing and player to have in the 25.
All the more so for a club that's designated Joey Barton and Adel Taraabt as captains in the last two seasons

I just found out yesterday that Nelsen played for DC United a decade ago at the beginning of his career. Actually saw him play at RFK Stadium around 2001!
