No disrespect KLR but I certainly do not mix with people that behave like that and I have in all my years of going to football have never witnessed fascism on the terraces on that scale. I am not saying it has been totally eradicated at our stadia , but to have hundreds or even thousands chanting monkey noises or Nazi salutes is "shocking ". Yeah it was shocking, but also a hypocritical documentary when you consider London is also due to host a major international event in a few months time. I'll make the suggestion that there are much more & much graver concerns around the world over London's ability to host a safe & successful Olympic Games than there are about Poland & Ukraine's ability to hold The Euro's Actually the tone of "look at those savages over there" was quite laughable if you want my opinion & the Sol Campbell comment was just plain odd.

I really do not think that London hosting the Olympics and Poland/ Ukraine hosting the Euros can be compared . The reason being that there is to my memory no history of violence between rival fans at the olympics , whereas football has a long history of associated violence . We as a footballing nation have bent over backwards since the Hiesel stadium incident to rid football gangs from travelling with our national team and at club level.
The fears for the Olympics are over terrorism sure there might be petty crime , that happens everyday in London but you will not see Dutch fans at the Olympics fighting over there shot-putter because the Russian girl won.

That's all I've got to say, the attacks on those Asian students was indeed shocking & we certainly dont see anything like that INSIDE our stadiums anymore, but to suggest clearly in this documentary that Ukranian / Polish society is somehow more primitive & backward than British society is quite frankly laughable & hypocrisy at its very worst.

I was however really surprised to see police carrying shotguns are the grounds , it does make you wonder what goes on that Panorama never captured , what with fans taking knife training the full camo in some woods.
Come-on it a war mentality , I really do fear for travelling fans especially those countries that have a history of crowd trouble i.e England , Holland , Germany , Italy.
It could all get rather messy.

How do you know that bit with them training with the wooden knives in the woods was actually "real" ?
You could have just given them a couple of hundred quid & said right, can you do this for us, dont be naive enough to think that this sort of stuff doesnt go on, especially when The BBC are involved.

And as a Jew I guess I'm in trouble wherever I go!
For all the obvious areas of crime in English cities, I'm not sure I've read of any Olympic-team families fearing to travel to London! And I don't think too highly of hordes of fascist-saluting/racists. But I guess that's just me

I am Indian so obviously, I have no time or respect for people with racist attitudes. As far as I'm concerned they are scum. The Panorama programme was shocking but nonetheless pretty accurate in its portrayal of Eastern European attitudes towards coloured people. My ex-girlfriend is Polish. During the two years we were together, she never once encouraged me to visit her home town due to the racism she feared I would be subjected to if I visited there. My fiancee is Russian, and whilst I have never encountered any problems when visiting Moscow or St Petersburg, I have two black friends who have. One was subjected to verbal racist abuse and the other was punched in the face by a total stranger (whom he said nothing to) whilst walking down a busy main street. I keep my visits to Russia to an absolute minimum and am extremely careful whenever I am there. Obviously, it helps that I am with a local. I'm sure we would find racism in pretty much every country out there if we looked hard enough. BUT, it appears particularly strongly ingrained within Eastern European culture and the governments/authorities there do nothing to eradicate it, preferring to deny its existence instead. The great thing about British culture is its diversity and willingness to tackle immoral practices head on. I would much rather walk down an English street at 2am than a Ukranian one!

Surely the debate here is about football hooligans rather than the safety of a person in a particular city? Sure there are areas of London where I particulary wouldn't want to go to very late at night but that can be said for practically any city in the world. What Panorama was showing was the absolutely disgusting way attitudes and actions that have no place in this world are still prevalent in Ukraine and Poland. The average Pole/Ukranian is a lovely person but the average Pole/Ukrainian isn't a young football thug. These lowlifes are allowed to fight/incite hatred/spew racist insults and worse. The poor Asian friends that were set upon was unbelievable. None of the stewards (let alone other fans) came to their help. The monkey chants by so many young people with some of them giggling afterwards and the Nazi salutes shows complete ignorance to the way the world is in most places. For the authorites to allow and therefore basically condone this is amazing in countries that are trying to embrace and emulate the Western world. The fear is that these so called fans who will obviously not be in the grounds watching the games in such numbers but will be milling around trying to pick off easy targets amongst travelling fans and rival supporters. This will no doubt what the authorities will be trying to stop happening and hoping that the whole problem with their Ultra Fans will be brushed under the carpet until after the tournament has finished. This is a totally different situation to London and the Olympics and for you KLR to suggest that London is many times more a dangerous place is laugable and ridiculous. Are you even aware of the homicide rate in Ukraine? Have a look at www.gunpolicy.org/firearms/compare/190/rate_of_homicide_any_method/148,192 and maybe you might learn something. There is a reason why London has so many different nationalities and people of all different creeds, colours and beliefs. It is because we are a civilised race. Of course we have our own undesirables and no go areas but where hasn't? As a Welshman living in France I will be fully behind England's team in the Champioship and hope and pray that all supporters no mater from which country they are from and whatever creed, colour or belief have a safe and enjoyable time over there.

No point trying to change klr's thoughts on this matter. Just like he sees nothing wrong in what John Terry said to Anton. He will try and dismiss or justify what was shown on Panorama. Whereas some may have been shocked by what was shown yesterday. You know there would be some that would have watched and secretly enjoyed it.

Some pretty disgusting footage shown on the news here tonight. I wouldn't go to this tournament although there are a few QPR fans who would and also probably get off on this type of behaviour.

Good to see the police are taking the problem seriously with the comment about the Metalist not giving the seig heil salute, the fans were just pointing to the other fans with their right hands!!!!!!!!!!!! What's the matter with these people??

Here's a laugh. Former Chelsea striker Andriy Shevchenko says there is "no real problem" with racism in Ukraine and fans have nothing to fear at Euro 2012. Shevchenko told the BBC: "We don't have a real problem here about racism. The country's very quiet and people are very friendly." What planet is this guy living on???

Whilst the service can be absolutely criminal at times, especially the amount of time waiting for a Piccadilly line train going to Uxbridge or a Central line train going to Ealing B-Way whilst countless others stream past, it's not train drivers and signal men I watch out for over my shoulder when I'm at a cashpoint, believe me. Not only would you feel safer. I'm pretty sure you'd feel at home. ;D ;D ;D And as a Jew I guess I'm in trouble wherever I go Yes, but in your case, most of the time it's got nothing to do with you being Jewish! ;D ;D You kept that quiet. But I don't blame you for doing so! Panorama by it's nature puts across a very microscopic view of it's subject in order to highlight what does exist. Ukraine and Poland only served as a backdrop to a program that was a simple repeat of it's-self from countless episodes in the 70's and early 80's when the backdrop was the terraces of this countries' football grounds. Every country has these a$$holes, and Ukraine needs a change of generation before the Police actually acknowledge the problem it seems But it will happen over time. I think violence is inevitable at the Euros. The Polish firms were well policed at the World Cup in Germany and as such still feel a need to 'make a reputation' and as it's in their own backyard they'll be far more difficult to control away from the stadiums. It's going to be a reminder of the dark days for us but we know those countries will eventually get past it like us over time and like us will always have that hardcore micro-minority of racist a$$holes who like to mob up and chant sh!t.
