Now back to Given! TELEGRAPH Mark Hughes set to make a £3m bid for Aston Villa goalkeeper Shay Given this week. Mark Hughes is set to make a £3m bid for Aston Villa goalkeeper Shay Given this week. Rusty: Shay Given watches the ball go in for the third time again in Poznan against Croatia Photo: REUTERS By John Percy10:00PM BST 10 Jun 2012Comment Hughes, the QPR manager, is ready to present Paul Lambert with his first test at Villa by making an offer for the Republic of Ireland international. Given, 36, played under Hughes at Manchester City and is less than 12 months into a five-year contract he signed last July, when he was signed for £3.5m by Lambert's predecessor Alex McLeish. But Hughes is desperate to recruit a new No 1 this summer and is preparing a bid in the next 48 hours. He has also considered Birmingham's Ben Foster and England international Robert Green, who is a free agent after contract talks at West Ham broke down, but Given has emerged as his preferred option. Villa are under no pressure to sell Given, who endured a torrid evening last night in Ireland's 3-1 Euro 2012 defeat to Croatia, and are expected to reject the bid. www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/queens-park-rangers/9323307/Mark-Hughes-set-to-make-a-3m-bid-for-Aston-Villa-goalkeeper-Shay-Given-this-week..html?

He is not the keeper he used to be and hasn't been for 2 or 3 seasons. If we do sign Given then in 2 years time we will to pay out again for another new keeper. Just really hope we get Foster signed.

Not sure which keeper we're going for but Given went into this tournament far from 100% fit...I'd prefer Foster too but Given would be great capture too

Earlier someone said we wont sign anyone from euros Not that we wouldn't sign someone from the Euros, but MH said that he wouldn't use the Euros as a shopping list. I'm guessing that means he already has his shopping list in mind, regardless of performances over the current weeks.

£10M PRICE ON MANCHESTER CITY ENFORCER NIGEL DE JONG MANCHESTER CITY are planning a final round of talks with Dutch midfielder Nigel De Jong after Euro 2012. There is a four-year-contract offer on the table for De Jong, 27 at £95,000-a-week. But as he has only one year remaining on his current deal, City will look to sell him for £10million if he doesn’t sign. Manager Roberto Mancini would prefer him to stay after being impressed with his form and attitude in the closing weeks of City’s title-winning campaign. Inter Milan, Arsenal and QPR are watching developments. www.dailystar.co.uk/posts/view/255991/-10m-price-on-Manchester-City-enforcer-Nigel-De-Jong/

Spurs star eyes QPR switch
By Paul Warburton Jun 11 2012
DAVID Bentley has issued a come-and-get-me plea to QPR boss Mark Hughes.
The Tottenham winger has suffered mightily since he left Blackburn for White Hart Lane in 2008 on the back of a massive £15million fee.
But Hughes, who landed Rovers the cash windfall as a result of turning the winger into an England player at the same time, is seen as the saviour to revive a career beset with a serious knee injury last season on loan at West Ham.
And the Chronicle understand the 27-year-old, who has a year remaining on his contract, would jump at the chance of rejoining the Welshman and pulling on a QPR shirt.
A source said: “Sparky made David a great player, and he was happiest at Blackburn when the two were there together.”

If he can stay injury free and Hughes can get him back to his best then IMO that would be a good signing.

Does he ever go with a story that isn't based on an un-named source?

Do you think we will sign Given or Foster? Could be someone completely different but I reckon Foster. Doubt Lambert would sell Villa's only keeper.

Stephen Ireland is looking on the cards at the moment as he is definately leaving and mh is interested.
everything is very quiet but wanyama or whatever his name is is looking likely to be ours as the only other side currently in for him is west ham and they are hardly competition to us.
foster is almost certainly going to spurs so given is our number one choice now and will almost certainly be an r when the euros are finished.
bentley i would not touch with a barge pole he rates himself almost as highly as barton and with a similiar attitude. redknap has said on several occasions he is virtually unworkable with who hates training and is not worth the hassle.
do we need another like barton.

WBA may be stealing Foster MIRROR www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/west-brom-want-ben-foster-873032He's a keeper!: West Brom to pay £3m to hang onto loan-star Foster Birmingham stopper's desire to remain in the Midlands has given the Baggies an edge over rivals Tottenham and Queens Park Rangers No place like home: Foster is set to stay in the Midlands by joining West Brom New West Brom boss Steve Clarke is closing in on the full-time capture of keeper Ben Foster from neighbours Birmingham. Clarke is poised to offer £3million for Foster, who had a successful loan spell at the Hawthorns last season and is keen to stay in the Midlands. Foster is also wanted by QPR and on Tottenham's wish-list, but Albion have been encouraged by signs that he wants to join them and is willing to discuss terms. Blues will finally cash in on Foster after failing to win promotion back to the Premier League at the first attempt last season. They may try to get the Baggies' Boaz Myhill, who played for them on loan last season, as part of the deal, either on loan or a permanent basis. Foster was also an option for QPR, but knows that West Brom still rate him highly now Clarke has succeeded Roy Hodgson.

Daily Mail says that it is Green: Robert Green is set to join QPR after agreeing a £50,000-a-week deal to move across London. The England goalkeeper, 32, is a free agent after West Ham refused to meet his pay demands and failed to agree a new contract. QPR are anxious to bolster their defence after narrowly avoiding relegation last season and opted for Green after briefly considering Tottenham goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes. The current No 1 at Loftus Road, Paddy Kenny, looks likely to re-join former boss Neil Warnock at Leeds United. www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2157794/Robert-Green-set-sign-QPR.html#ixzz1xWeTcsZq

Think that's it then. Doubt a paper would print a story like that without being very sure of it. Normally it is 'club set to bid for' but this is a definite 'club have signed' story.

Have to say im pleased if the Green deal is true and it all fits in with the west brom foster deal. We must have been waitng to see if we could get foster (less wages than green) and when it became clear he wanted to stay in the midlands we swallowed the £50k a week. Glad we didn't go for given £3 mill's to much for him at 36 i do think the stephen ireland deal is a certainty i read he loved playing under sparky. Sounds like things are moving on well and i still think he'll have 1 or 2 suprises for us.
