Barton had a violent reaction..but to be fair, the way most of you are carrying on, it's as if no other player in footballing history has ever done the same?
There's been other instances where some fans have called for a players head, not least of all Adel Taarabt after he threw a strop vs Hull last season and stormed off the pitch, and again this season when he left after the Fulham drubbing.
This - like anything - is one incident over a whole season where, by and large, Barton's actually been the model professional! He's one of the most kicked about players in the game, certainly watching us this season, and to be honest I'm not surprised he finally cracked.
This doesn't mean I support or condone his actions - it was very nearly a penalty and for all we knew at the time, Bolton may have gone onto win, and our heads may have dropped, not to mention the embarrassing follow up attacks on Aguerro and assorted other City players. I'm as disappointed as everyone else.
My point is just that I think we're all taking it to extremes a bit much - mainly because all the people who don't like Barton have had to keep quiet recently since his form finding final matches - and this one incident gives license for all the haters to come rushing back out again to slag him off for days on end.
He's clearly not a particularly nice chap, and has problems controlling his temper. But in all honesty, can people say he hasn't tried, or contributed to some of our latter successes?? Even when he was playing poorly, his work rate was second to none, and when Derry was playing like a rabbit caught in headlights every week, Barton was the one who was running his back side off covering for him.
So, all things considered, I don't think he deserves quite the level of angst that he's getting at the moment. Let's just have some faith in Hughes, Beard & Fernandes in dealing with it, and be the outcome what it may.
On top of it all, the fact that he'll be lucky to be available to play before the January window means his future as a QPR regular, certainly, is all but over. I'm sure the captaincy will be changed, and the Summer signings will probably push him further down the pecking order, especially if they gel well and perform.
As it stands at the moment, we'll have Diakite (I'm going to say that we will complete the permanent deal) and Faurlin starting matches anyway, so basically...let's just not worry about it!! It'll be dealt with.
There's so much to be happy and excited about, especially with the completed purchase of Warren Farm and the plans for it's development already in motion...when you consider everything that's opening up for us, is Joey Barton really worth all this attention?
6 pages and finally some sense.
