FERNANDES: RIGG ARRIVAL IS KEY
QPR Chairman Tony Fernandes has labelled today's arrival of Mike Rigg as 'along with Mark Hughes, the most important appointment I will make.'
Rigg was confirmed as the Club's new Technical Director this morning and Fernandes told http://www.qpr.co.uk: "I said when I arrived that I wanted to focus on the youth set-up and I believe the appointment of Mike is very key.
"I met him in the same room in my house that I met Mark and from the moment I met him I knew he was the right guy to take QPR forward.
"He is, along with Mark, the most important appointment I will make as Chairman of QPR."
Rigg's main responsibilities are to identify talent at every age group, and Fernandes revealed: "We want players with QPR in their blood.
"I believe you can't have a proper Club unless you have the right infrastructure in place, which starts at the youth levels.
"As a group of Shareholders, we want parents to know that when they put their sons' careers in the hands of QPR, they will be well looked after.
"To be a successful side we need to have a mix of players we have brought in with players who have come through the ranks.
"That is why we all believe it is so critical that we produce players in the youth teams and in the Reserve team that Mark can use in the future."
Following Hughes's arrival at the Club, the R's Manager brought Mark Bowen, Eddie Niedzwiecki and Kevin Hitchcock with him. More recently, he added Damian Roden as Head of Sports Science.
Fernandes added: "It is so very, very important to build the right team behind the scenes.
"I have always said the most important thing is to have the right structure. Upon the right structure you can build anything.
"What I have been focusing on since I came to QPR with my fellow Shareholders is building the right structure.
"We have brought the right backroom people to the Club and hopefully we will be able to announce very soon details of a new training ground, which we believe is also critical to our development.
"I hope this shows the fans the intent of the Club.
"I have always said that we, as a group of Shareholders, are here for the long-term. Along the way there are always going to be hic-cups but if you build for the future and put the right structure in place, the results will come together."
