On this narrowest of points though (as I presciently noted after the England Axed Terry), I don't see how the FA can select the Captain. That has to be the manager (who can be axed if he doesnt do what FA wants). But that is a difference

Wonder is this might mean the End of John Terry's International Career. Period. Not just as Captain... Rule of thumb in all walks of life: Admit fault; apologise and do so at once...It's often not the "crime;" it's the prevarifications and denials and the cover up!

this raised my biggest smile of the day today.
Aslrowanvine@aslrowanvine
Should have resigned after the shambles of a world cup in 2010 and I would have had some respect for him..now he was looking for a way out..
LoftforWords@LoftforWords
@aslrowanvine I agree Rowan, when people in football are taking big wages for poor returns they should have the personal pride to walk away.

Warnock says:
"I'm quite delighted if I'm honest. I only saw them failing at the Euros with him in charge. There's nobody else other than Harry Redknapp [to replace him].
"It's a long time since England have had a main man that everybody agrees with and who can get the best out of the team. He brings humour to the dressing room and that has been missing in Fabio's time and in Sven-Goran Eriksson's time too.
"I still think it's possible for Harry to do it part time until then but that depends on Tottenham. I think the European Championship with Harry in charge will be something to look forward to."
"I think it's a blessing in disguise for Fabio. He's been able to walk away and put the blame on FA chairman David Bernstein for challenging his authority."

Capello quits as England manager Published: 08 Feb 2012 - 19:46:535 Views 0 Comments Rss feedcommentsMoreClick To Enlarge Fabio Capello has quit as England manager following the Football Association's decision to strip John Terry of the captaincy, the FA announced Wednesday. "Fabio's resignation was accepted and he will leave the post of England manager with immediate effect," the FA said in a statement. The Italian quit following a meeting at Wembley with FA chairman David Bernstein. The FA said their discussions focused on its decision to remove the captaincy from Chelsea skipper Terry, who is facing trial later this year on charges of racially abusing QPR player Anton Ferdinand. Capello had publicly disagreed with the decision in an Italian television interview. "I would like to stress that during today's meeting and throughout his time as England manager, Fabio has conducted himself in an extremely professional manner," Bernstein said. "We have accepted Fabio's resignation, agreeing this is the right decision. We would like to thank Fabio for his work with the England team and wish him every success in the future." The decision comes within hours of Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp being cleared by a jury over charges of tax evasion. Redknapp is the bookmakers' favourite to become the next England manager. Capello was heavily criticised for England's disappointing performance at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa where they were thrashed by Germany in the second round. His contract was due to expire following the European Championships in Poland and Ukraine, which kicks off in June. www.football.co.uk/fa/capello_quits_as_england_manager_rss2073451.shtml

Terry in court and lost his captaincy. AVB claiming we derailed Chels*** whole season. Cappello out.

What an absolute total shambles.
And no more foreign managers please. The English team should be managed by someone English, and someone whi can gain respec f the players. Not the likes of Steve fecking Maclaren.

Or return to the golden late 1960s/early 1970s: Terry Venables and Gerry Francis leading England (and completing the QPR cycle to this all)

Management should be 50% Inspiration, 50% Perspiration. Warnock or Harry would provide that.
I was expecting 50% Desperation (poorer results than the hype) and 50% Constipation (team selection staid and lacking vision) under the previous leadership...

Oh dear - I guess I'm in a minorty of one.............
Worse thing that's happened to England is Capello quiting, I can't believe the media have whipped up such anti-capello feeling and most seem to have bought into it.
What did he do wrong?, some mention 2010 - where England did as well as they usually do, the off-field nonsense was not down to him but the players......
And yet here we are lusting after a manager whose greatest achievement, apart from getting a not guilty verdict, is 1 FA Cup
1-0 to the media......, well judging by the past record it's about 10-0 to the media
Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear

He may have had a good record but I could not support England with him at the helm. He didn't seem to care at all and could barely even speak English. The FA should have been ruthless after the world cup and sacked him but in usual FA style they messed it up and wasted the last 2 years.
