QPR may force Ferdinand to shake Terry's hand when pair meet in FA Cup clash Queens Park Rangers officials will hold talks this week aimed at encouraging Anton Ferdinand to shake hands with John Terry before Saturday's FA Cup tie against Chelsea. The fourth-round clash is expected to bring together the pair for the first time since QPR won a bad-tempered League game between the sides at Loftus Road on October 23. Terry is facing a criminal trial next week for allegedly racially abusing Ferdinand during the game. It is FA Cup protocol for both sets of players to shake hands before matches and Rangers want to do their utmost to defuse a potentially explosive encounter. Chelsea skipper Terry will extend his hand during the pre-game formalities but it is unclear if Ferdinand would reciprocate. QPR could try to make the decision for him this week. Sportsmail has learned the pre-match handshake is an issue that has been discussed by Loftus Road officials ahead of Saturday's tie A decision on whether Ferdinand will be instructed to shake Terry's hand will be made later this week, during discussions which are likely to include the former Sunderland defender. Wayne Bridge famously rejected Terry's hand in February 2010 after it emerged the England captain had an affair with the left back's former partner Vanessa Perroncel. The FA are expected to speak to both clubs ahead of Saturday to ensure everything has been done to ensure the game is trouble free. It is understood FA chiefs are keen for the pair to shake hands. In addition to increased security, both clubs are expected to warn their fans about their behaviour. www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=qpr&source=web&cd=1&sqi=2&ved=0CDUQqQIwAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.dailymail.co.uk%2Fsport%2Ffootball%2Farticle-2090763%2FQPR-force-Anton-Ferdinand-shake-John-Terrys-hand.html&ei=woMeT6LqDoGeOrygtLkO&usg=AFQjCNF_ihK4VPfCHYCmeCXVI6w7uuimHA&sig2=3spSqua8xbIM_zioFbh_dg

If John Terry is innocent, of course...
If John Terry is guilty, but has apologized, of course..
But if John Terry did actually say what he's charged with; and has denied it and denied it...then I'd say no.

It's not a case of whether he should or he should not, it's simply a case of being his decision alone.
As've already said, I don't believe that story, anyone trying to convnce him to do so at the club needs a reality slap.
All that shaking hands line up malarkey is crap anyway and never seen on any televised game unless it's a rare BBC game.

NO, Terry is a s.cumbag of the highest order. I do not condone bad sportmanship but Terry has no respect for even himself.

It's up to Anton. I think the handshake is overrated. And in that situation not shaking hand may look stupid. It doesn't mean anything. You have to time it, rehearse it, and worst of all - think about it constantly.

Anton should do what he feels like doing, no pressure should be put on him to shake hands.

He should take his hand and head-butt him on the nose(while the crowd shout out "HOOPSAA")
That would be acceptable.

Up to Anton. Nobody else's place to say.
I've been fortunate enough to date to have not been racially abused but I can't say what I would do if I was. It would be a personal decision and one that nobody should decide for Anton.

As others have said it's up to Anton, though I'm sure he's being made aware of how the press will blow it up out of proportion and write pages of bullshit around it and considering the trial is shortly after the match, the possible ramifications it might have on that.
Personally I'd shake his hand, look him in the eye and say 'You might be a racist. That's for the courts to decide, but that doesn't make me an ignorant man and you need help and education, which I'd gladly help you to receive. Oh and your mum's a thief.'

No I don't think he should shake his hand but that up to him.
Personally I would leave a bootlace undone and as Terry puts his hand out to shake bend down and do up the bootlace leaving him looking like a dick with his hand out waiting for me to do up my lace!!

Didn't this happen with terry and bridge after all that affair stuff? Bridge wouldn't shake his hand and nor should anton...eventually terry may wise up that he is a co*k.

I imagine though if the club really does ask Ferdinand to do so, then he will. It's not big enough for him to go against the club wishes.

Then again only Ferdinand knows what was or wasn;t said to him, if he has been racially abused I wouldn;t expect the club to force him to do anything like that. We'll see...we all know ferds is the bigger man whatever happens!

I think the act of shaking hands comes either if BOTH parties were in the wrong. OR AFTER the apology and regrets and "confession." Not in its absence.
Who knows what each of us would do in the situation? Personally, I think I'd say F*** him!
On a more basic level, I just know that if I was invited to shake hands with one or two of the slimebag messageboard posters who have engaged in - or tolerated - anti-Jewish slurs, would I shake their hand? Barring abject and sincere apologies, like hell I would.

No he shouldn't shake is hand, that would just prove what Blatter said about resolving racism with a handshake. A swift kick to the nuts should do it.

No he shouldn't shake is hand, that would just prove what Blatter said about resolving racism with a handshake. A swift kick to the nuts should do it. That was my thoughts too - it sends out the message that things should just be brushed under the carpet when the message should be zero tolerance for racism. No one can be sure on what happened, but the angle I'm inclined to take is that why would Anton put himself in such a position of attention if he wasn't genuinely offended by what Terry said? IF the club are trying to force him to shake hands it makes out that football formalities are more important than racism - encourages a kind of "suck it up" attitude which discourages people to come forward. I can understand to some extent the argument that people would want to defuse an already volatile situation from getting worse but that's not the point. The point should be about whatever choice makes Anton feel most comfortable.

I hope he does, show hes a bigger man than terry. Then everyone can move on. Hopefully the CPS will then find the toe rag guilty and bang him up for 18 months.

Lots of talk in the papers and on the BBC about both clubs making a joint statement in a bid to lower tensions before the game.
AVB also calling for calm ahead of the game.
Can't help thinking the scum are running scared.
As for lowering tensions, it is known as a local derby and that is what it is all about you mugs....
I wonder if Mata is going to be up for taking corners?
I do feel sorry for Side Show Bob though if he has to put up with his new mate in the paddocks......

No, legally imo, only should be field contact. Just amazes me that the league would let him play in this game while under charges.

I think the question that should be asked is, should anyone on the QPR team shake John Terry's hand?
Also, I think Joey Barton should put his thug head on this Saturday and cause the man a whole world of hurt.

I don't think he should shake his hand infact i don't think terry should even be allowed to enter the ground if i were accused of what he's accused of i know for sure i wouldn't be allowed to enter the ground and take my seat.
