Why do we want both Alex and Samba?
Is this an admission we wasted £7million on Anton Ferdinand?

I wouldn't pay any attention to McIntyre tbh with ye.
He's usually the last to know. Case in point being the Macheda loan where everyone else was reporting it and he was shaking his head saying it was unlikely to happen.
I read his tweets but it becomes more obvious to me that most of the time he hasn't got a Scooby Doo.

How about another overseas Striker/winger ? Chase for Lazio starQPR lead the chase for Lazio star By talkSPORT Tuesday, January 17, 2012 Mauro Zarate is being hunted by Mark Hughes as the new QPR boss seeks to kickstart his Loftus Road revolution. Hughes is eager to bring in more firepower and sources in Italy claim he has set his sights on Lazio star Zarate, who is currently on loan at Inter Milan. It appears, however, that Lazio are open to the prospect of selling Zarate in the transfer window and that has alerted Hughes, who will be backed by investment from majority shareholder Tony Fernandes. The striker has experience of English football from his time at Birmingham and Newcastle, and was linked with a move to Arsenal last summer. Bolton are also thought to be monitoring the situation. Zarate, 24, is understood to be keen on a return to England although Lazio are hoping that interest from numerous Premier League clubs will help push his price up. www.talksport.co.uk/sports-news/football/premier-league/transfer-rumours/1470/51/qpr-lead-chase-lazio-star

I think since the old regime and Gianni left he seems to have lost his main source. He also said that Young would never agree to sign for us but he did.

Make that £3.5m Can't remember where I saw the figure.. thought it was generally accepted lol Just seems to me Alex and Samba are very similar, big units whereas Anton can play a bit of football. Either Alex or Samba would be perfect for Anton to play alongside.

They've just reiterated that Samba is not for sale despite the transfer request. It might be a goo thing if he stay their though, a seriously unhappy player in the changing room will really damage their squads morale.

Regardless of how much Ferdinand cost he wasn't Hughes' signing and he might not think he is good enough.
If believes two centre backs are what's needed and TF is prepared to finance that then so be it. We need quality on the bench and in reserve.

I said before that I'd move on from Samba now
Get Alex in for Wigan and then get Onouha once Kompany is back. Anton and Alex is good to go, especially as Anton was captain against Newcastle.
Barton back for Wigan is a good thing. Glad we have this cup replay now.

I'd say all good teams have 4 good CB Man U have Rio, Vidic, Jones and the Irish boy Chelsea have Terry, Luis, Cahill, Ivanovic Spurs have Gallas, King, Dawson, Kaboul & Bassong We have Anton (good) Gabby (fair) Hall/Connolly/Hill (not up to it)

17/01/2012 by David McIntyre QPR are discussing personal terms with Alex after reaching an agreement with Chelsea over the Brazilian defender. Paris St-Germain are among a number of other clubs to have expressed an interest in the 29-year-old since he was transfer-listed at Stamford Bridge. But new Rangers manager Mark Hughes is hoping Alex can be persuaded to remain in west London. Hughes is also looking to sign versatile defender Nedum Onoua from Manchester City next week and has lodged a bid for Blackburn’s Chris Samba. But Blackburn have today reiterated that Samba is not for sale, despite the centre-back saying he has handed in a transfer request. www.westlondonsport.com/qpr/qpr-open-talks-with-defender-alex/

Zarate is a great player, but will probably have somewhere better to go than QPR.
Alex & Samba are of equal quality IMO, so if you can get one for £3.5million & the other costs £7million then thats a no brainer IMO.
Alex & Onouha would be fantastic ( & realistic ) signings for us IMO.

Samba is being majorly overrated by Blackburn and by them not selling up they are seriously damaging their survival hopes. I would only be dreaming if we signed Zarate.

Blackburn have no need to sell Samba.
But if they do they should hold out for as close to their valuation as possible and especially since Samba signed a 5 year deal only last year!
I really think Alex and Onouha are sufficient and we should be looking to bring in a good midfielder instead. Blackburn are just going to dick everyone around by the looks of things.

If funds are such that spending money on Samba would mean not strengthening in other areas then I'd agree that Alex and Onouha (who would be fabulous additions) are enough but if Hughes has been given a big old pot of cash and promised he can build his own team then it wouldn't surprise me that he'll look for Ferdinand to be replace too. I like Anton, I think he is decent and some of his performances have impressed me but he's prone to a mistake and if Hughes has money to spend he'll want options and he knows the quality that Samba has. The thing also Samba brings is an aerial threat in the opposing penalty box and remarkably he has a 1 in 10 scoring ratio which is great for a defender. I can't see Blackburn selling to us. I can see them selling if the price is not only right but also if Samba's head is no longer in it. With Bassong now going to PSG this does mean that Spurs are lighter at the back (although of course they have a number of quality centre backs) especially with King's fitness and Gallas' current injury. Time will tell what money Hughes really has. If reports about Ben Foster are right then it would suggest to me he has a lot of money because as you are suggesting why spend money on an area that doesn't neccesarily need strengthening when there are other areas that need improving first.

EXCLUSIVE: QPR target Spurs keeper Gomes Published 22:31 17/01/12 By John Cross . New QPR manager Mark Hughes is ready to move for Tottenham’s forgotten keeper Heurelho Gomes. Hughes is desperate to strengthen his defence and wants a new keeper as part of that rebuilding - and Gomes is high on his wish-list. The Brazilian, 30, lost his first-team place when Spurs signed Brad Friedel in the summer. He is now third-choice behind Carlo Cudicini - and Spurs are also keen on signing Newcastle keeper Tim Krul. Gomes has admitted he is frustrated at Tottenham and wants to leave, but he he is happy in London and QPR are eager to see if they can thrash out a deal. Rangers' current keeper, Paddy Kenny, was signed by Hughes' predecessor Neil Warnock and is seen as very much his man. Landing Gomes would be a major coup for the west Londoners as, despite committing some high profile howlers in Tottenham colours, he is still viewed as a player with huge potential and a strong reputation. Gomes joined Spurs for £7million from PSV Eindhoven in 2008 and was regarded as one of the best in Europe, but QPR will be hoping to pay less than that to get him on board. Hughes is also trying to bring in a new centre-half with Chelsea’s Alex and Blackburn stopper Chris Samba on the radar. Samba is also wanted by Spurs, who are in pole position, but Rangers still believe they could land Alex and persuade him to stay in London. Hughes wants a left back too, with Manchester City’s Wayne Bridge a loan target, and also aims to strengthen his midfield and strike force. Aston Villa and England striker Darren Bent is an ambitious target, but a deal for Fulham forward Andy Johnson now seems highly unlikely. Cottagers chairman Mohamed Al Fayed does not want to do business with former boss Hughes following his bitter departure from the club last summer. www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/transfer-news/Tottenham-transfer-gossip-exclusive-Heurelho-Gomes-is-target-for-QPR-article854763.html
