Christopher Samba keen to reunite with Mark Hughes at QPR after handing in Blackburn transfer request Christopher Samba is understood to be keen to reunite with Mark Hughes, who brought him to the Premier League, and join Queens Park Rangers after handing in a transfer request at Blackburn Rovers on Monday. By Jason Burt9:04PM GMT 16 Jan 2012 Comment Blackburn insist that Samba is not for sale but it is believed they have quoted a fee of around £12 million to interested clubs. Rangers and Tottenham Hotspur want to pay around half that for the 27-year-old central defender. Last week Rangers, who hope to make three signings this week ahead of Saturday’s crucial Premier League game at home to Wigan Athletic, were resigned to the likelihood that Samba would join Tottenham Hotspur in this January transfer window should he quit Ewood Park. Indeed Spurs manager Harry Redknapp indicated that he was confident that Samba would join his club if a bid was submitted. However Spurs are also aware that Hughes’s appointment at Loftus Road could be a factor in persuading the Congo defender to move there and will not enter a bidding war.Samba missed Saturday’s 3-1 victory over Fulham claiming he was ill and underwent hospital tests for severe stomach cramps. He has not returned to training and on Monday handed in a written transfer request which Blackburn have indicated they will reject. In a statement Samba said: “I have personally informed the owners, manager and executives at the club that I want to leave in this transfer window. I have decided now is the right time for me to pursue a new challenge and I have asked the club to respect my decision and allow me to leave.” Samba, who signed for Blackburn under Hughes from German side Hertha Berlin in 2007, signed a new five-year contract with the club almost a year ago. Blackburn manager Steve Kean has insisted that Samba will not be sold and said that the club had already rejected two bids — thought to both be from QPR of around £5 million and £6.5 million. If Hughes does sign Samba it will eat up a huge part of his transfer budget. Rangers are already close to agreeing a fee with Chelsea for Alex and are bidding for Nedum Onuoha, who wants to join them, although Manchester City have said they do not want to sell. Hughes hopes to sign two out of those three defensive targets while Rangers also want to sign Brazilian striker Henrique. The 20 year-old plays for Sao Paolo but wants to move to Europe and it is understood he has agreed, in principle, to join Rangers initially on a loan deal. However Henrique’s move is dependent on the player obtaining a work permit and that may not be a formality. Hughes is believed to have a very long list of potential targets as he tries to acquire the reinforcements needed to save Rangers from relegation It is hoped that a deal can be done with City to sign Wayne Bridge. Hughes also needs to replace midfielder Ali Faurlin, who will miss the rest of the season with a knee injury, and stated again after Sunday’s away defeat to Newcastle United, his first game in charge, that he needs another striker (probably in addition to Henrique). At the same time Hughes believes that the present Rangers squad is far too large and the club will attempt to move on the likes of Rob Hulse, Danny Shittu and Bradley Orr before the transfer window closes. Hughes’s first game at Loftus Road is Tuesday evening’s FA Cup third-round replay against League One outfit MK Dons with the winners set to face Chelsea in the next round. Rangers will field a strong side. www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/blackburn-rovers/9019085/Christopher-Samba-keen-to-reunite-with-Mark-Hughes-at-QPR-after-handing-in-Blackburn-transfer-request.html

Samba plea for Rovers escape after he hands in transfer request as manager Kean insists defender is not for sale By SAMI MOKBEL Last updated at 10:15 PM on 16th January 2012 Chris Samba sparked a tug-of-war between Tottenham and Queens Park Rangers by handing in a transfer request. The Blackburn centre half’s future has been the subject of intense speculation this month, and he told a French newspaper last week of his intention to quit Ewood Park. Rovers manager Steve Kean has been adamant that his star defender is not for sale as he looks to keep his best players for the club’s relegation battle, and Sportsmail understands Blackburn will reject Samba’s request. But it will be tough for them to keep hold of a player who is determined to leave. Samba confirmed in a statement: ‘I have today officially requested a transfer from Blackburn Rovers Football Club. ‘I have personally informed the owners, manager and executives at the club that I want to leave in this transfer window. ‘In my five years at Blackburn I have always given 100 per cent in every game I have played. ‘I have had several opportunities to leave but I have always stayed. I have decided now is the right time for me to pursue a new challenge and I have asked the club to respect my decision and allow me to leave. ‘I thank the fans for their support and I hope they feel I have served them and their club well.’ The news will be of particular interest to London rivals Spurs and QPR, who are hot on the heels of the 27-year-old. QPR have already had two offers — of £6million and £7m — turned down by Rovers, and Loftus Road officials re-opened talks with Blackburn on Monday to lure Samba to the capital. New Rangers manager Mark Hughes was responsible for giving Samba his Premier League chance when he signed him for Blackburn from Hertha Berlin in 2007, and Hughes hopes his relationship with Samba will give him the edge over Tottenham. Sportsmail exclusively revealed last week how Spurs had opened talks with Blackburn over a £7.5m move. Manager Harry Redknapp has been open about his interest in Samba this month and has made the defender a top January target. Because they're challenging for the Premiership Title (outsiders ok)...Very real chance of playing in Europe next season...Chance of winning Medals in the FA Cup or League cup...Premiership football assured next season...

If QPR were to offer better wages than spurs, then where should he go? He should come this way because he knows and trusts Sparky. Oh yes and because the Hoops are God's own team!!!
