Daily Mail says Alex doesn't want to come to QPR. Do we really want a player who doesn't want to be with us? If Alex wasn't at all interested in coming to QPR he or his agent (i.e. the same bloke who is also Mark Hughes' agent) would have notified Chelsea to not even bother agreeing a fee as it would be a waste of time for all parties. Considering that a week ago Mark Hughes was a free agent he could have sounded out the likes of Alex and all other contacts the moment he got off the phone to Fernandes or whoever from QPR that first rang him. Until he became an employee of QPR FC he could have legally tapped up any player he wanted to. Wouldn't surprise me if he rang up the likes of Onouha, Alex, Samba, Santa Cruz, Bridge etc and said there's a possibility that I might become the new manager of QPR and if so what are the chances of you signing for me if I do? Depending on their response he would then put the wheels in motion once he was appointed manager.

Add no Pienaar on Spurs bench , no Samba on Blackburns No Samba and Yakubu off - straight red. No Pienaar is an odd one unless we've unsettled him or Redknapp is resigned to losing him.

www.thenational.ae/sport/football/tony-fernandes-will-fund-window-shopping-at-qprTony Fernandes will fund window shopping at QPR Duncan Castles Jan 15, 2012 LONDON // Tony Fernandes, the Queens Park Rangersco-owner, is prepared to bankroll the club's Premier League survival with a commitment to new recruits that will run to over £50 million (Dh281.3m). After appointing Mark Hughes as manager last week, the Welshman is to be allowed to enter the January market for as many as five players with substantial funds available for both transfer fees and salaries. On Friday, Tottenham rejected an opening offer of £2.5m rising to £3m for Steven Pienaar. Their chairman, Daniel Levy, expects QPR to return with an improved bid for the South Africa captain, who has been told to find new employment and is expected to command a fee of up to £5m. Chelsea have agreed a fee for their transfer-listed central defender Alex. Hughes regards Pienaar - also the subject of significant interest from the new Sunderland manager Martin O'Neill - as an individual who can offer creativity across the midfield. As well as at least one defender, he is in the market for a winger and a striker. In total, Hughes has a budget of £25m to spend on transfer fees. As expected when Neil Warnock was dismissed in favour of Hughes, much of QPR's activity in the January market is being handled by Kia Joorabchian. The unlicensed agent advised Hughes to exercise a clause in his contract to leave Fulham last summer amid suggestions that his client was a favoured candidate for vacant positions at Chelsea and Aston Villa. Fernandes has also discussed the possibility of pushing the budget still further by bringing Joorabchian's most high-profile player, Carlos Tevez, to QPR. "You never know, but it's highly unlikely," the Malaysian said. "He's one of the most highly paid players in the league and I think his mind is to go to another country." City would prefer to move Tevez outside the Premier League and will continue to insist on a guaranteed transfer for the Argentine, rather than a half-season loan. Inter Milan intend to make a further approach for Tevez after the AC Milan owner Silvio Berlusconi halted transfer negotiations last week. City would, however, be happy to sell Nedum Onuoha domestically in the current window and the little-used defender is another player with links to Joorabchian.

That article contradicts itself, it says he will spend £50m to spend on transfers but then says he has given Sparky a £25m budget.

EXCLUSIVE: Mark Hughes set to ditch QPR bad boy Barton Published 22:25 14/01/12 By Paul Smith Recommend . Joey Barton is set to be one of the first casualties in Mark Hughes’ QPR revolution. Bad boy Joey, 29, is suspended and will miss today’s trip to Newcastle. But highly placed Rangers sources believe Barton is unlikely to figure in Hughes’ long-term plans. Hughes took over last week, following the sacking of Neil Warnock, and vowed to grab the chance to build a club of substance. Warnock was the boss who recruited controversial Barton on a free transfer last August and made him Rangers’ captain. Another high-profile star at risk is Shaun Wright-Phillips, who has failed to make any real impact since a summer move from Manchester City. Hughes accepts that he has a major rebuilding job at the club and is looking to off-load a number of players. But, with only two weeks of the transfer window remaining, the time may not be right for sweeping changes at the club. Hughes is targeting at least six new signings.
Rangers agreed a fee yesterday to sign centre-back Alex from Chelsea.
The Loftus Road hierarchy will now have to agree personal terms with the Brazilian defender. Hughes is also hoping to recruit rising young Brazil star Henrique – work permit permitting – on an 18-month loan deal from Sao Paulo with an option to buy him for around £5million.www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/transfer-news/QPR-Mark-Hughes-is-ready-to-ditch-Joey-Barton-article854007.html

Mark Hughes braced for signings frenzy with Alex deal with Chelsea on brink of completion Queens Park Rangers are braced for a week of frantic negotiation as new manager Mark Hughes seeks reinforcements for his relegation battle. Coming in: Alex will be the first signing for Mark Hughes Photo: e 10:30PM GMT 14 Jan 2012 After seven months out of the game, Hughes faces his first match in charge, against Newcastle this afternoon, still searching for new players. Having had a bid in the region of £2.5million for Nedum Onuoha rejected by Manchester City, Rangers are still locked in negotiations with Chelsea over a fee for Brazil defender Alex. Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas was confident the deal will be done. “I’m sure that the clubs can reach an agreement if they continue to push,” he said. “We know Alex’s market value and we’re just not going to let him go quite easily, not that QPR’s offer is far, far off.” Chelsea have already secured their replacement by signing Gary Cahill from Bolton for £7million. He completed a medical at the Cobham training ground on Saturday morning and is expected to be officially unveiled by the Stamford Bridge club tomorrow. www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/queens-park-rangers/9015741/Mark-Hughes-braced-for-signings-frenzy-with-Alex-deal-with-Chelsea-on-brink-of-completion.html

Mark Hughes gets close to signing Brazil's golden Henrique for QPR• r14 January 2012 22.55 QPR's new manager Mark Hughes is trying to bring in new players before the transfer window closes. Photograph: Sang Tan/AP Mark Hughes wants Henrique, a 20-year-old Brazilian striker who won the golden shoe at last summer's under-20 World Cup, to spearhead his rebuilding of Queens Park Rangers, with a deal to sign him from São Paulo "getting close", according to an executive at the west London club. Alongside the transfer of the Chelsea defender Alex, which is due for completion in the next few days for around £3.5m, Hughes wants the left-back Wayne Bridge from Manchester City and is searching for a goalkeeper to replace Paddy Kenny. The Welshman is trying to perform major surgery on his team conscious there are two weeks of the transfer window remaining. He begins the challenge of rescuing QPR, who are 18th, from relegation on Sunday at Newcastle. If Henrique joins, it is thought this will initially be on loan for the remainder of the season for a fee of around £400,000, with QPR having the option to make the move permanent for £5m in the summer. The forward is unsettled at São Paulo and has fallen out of favour with Emerson Leão, the São Paulo head coach, who confirmed that the clubs were negotiating. "The president [Juvenal Juvincio] is doing what he promised," he said. "I wanted to see people fighting for a place. He understood it was time for a change and these changes aren't over. Henrique could leave tomorrow or any time soon." Signed from Atlético Paranaense in 2007, Henrique has been in and out of the São Paulo side during the past two seasons and struggled to establish himself, going on loan to David Luiz's former club, Vitória, in 2010. Last August, he scored five goals at the Under-20 World Cup in Colombia, which won him the golden shoe and also the golden ball as the tournament's best player after he fired Brazil to the championship. The 5ft 9in striker has scored seven goals in 11 matches for Brazil under-20s and is considered pacy but not lightning fast, and if signed Hughes may decide to play him off a front man or wide in a 4-3‑3. Of other potential transfer targets, a deal to bring Steven Pienaar from Tottenham is now unlikely as Daniel Levy, the chairman, and Harry Redknapp are reluctant to sell with Spurs challenging for the Premier League. Alex's imminent arrival should also mean that Spurs' Sébastien Bassong will no longer interest Hughes, while doubts over the first-choice left-back, Armand Traoré, who is at the Africa Cup of Nations with Senegal, have moved Hughes to try to land Bridge, with whom he worked while manager of City. Hopes are receding of Hughes landing Bobby Zamora.www.guardian.co.uk/football/2012/jan/14/mark-hughes-henrique-qpr

QPR boss Mark Hughes wants to make Ben Foster his first signing Jan 15 2012 by Alan Nixon, The People QPR boss Mark Hughes wants to bring in goalkeeper Ben Foster and plans to make a £5million raid on Birmingham City. New gaffer Hughes is armed with cash and drawing up a hit-list of potential recruits. And the former England player is one of his main targets, with Paddy Kenny fighting to remain No.1. Foster is on a season-long loan to West Brom from Birmingham but Rangers can break into that if they can offer enough money. The 28-year-old only went to the Baggies to stay in the Premier League and there is no permanent switch in place, so Hughes could get his man – leaving Albion chief Roy Hodgson having to find a replacement in a hurry. Kenny is a Neil Warnock man, signed by his former gaffer three times in his career, and will struggle to hold on to his place at Loftus Road. Hughes’ first signing for the club is set to be Chelsea defender Alex after a fee of around £4m was agreed for the Brazilian yesterday. A deal is almost complete for Brazilian striker Henrique from Sao Paulo. The 20-year-old should sign a one-and-a-half-year deal soon. Other defenders on Rangers’ radar are 27-year-old Michael Ciani at Bordeaux plus Nedum Onuoha and Wayne Bridge at Hughes’ former club Manchester City. QPR are also planning a fresh £3m bid for Tottenham midfielder Steven Pienaar, 29, after their opening £2m offer was rejected. The South African is also a target for Aston Villa and Sunderland. Marseille midfielder Lucho Gonzalez is another possibility. The Argentina international moved to the French side from FC Porto for £16m in 2009. But Marseille are now ready to sell Gonzalez to reduce their wage bill and Rangers may be able to tempt him into the Premier League. Arsenal and Roma were linked with the attacking middle man last year. But if QPR pursue their interest, they could land him for as little as £7m. www.people.co.uk/sport/football/football-hotline/2012/01/15/qpr-boss-mark-hughes-wants-to-make-ben-foster-his-first-signing-102039-23699157/

Fulham chief Al Fayed refuses to sell Zamora to arch enemy Hughes Jan 15 2012 by Dave Kidd, The People MARK HUGHES fears his old boss Mohamed Al Fayed will price him out of a move for Bobby Zamora. The new QPR boss, who controversially walked out on Fulham last summer, made a move for Zamora within hours of taking over at Loftus Road on Tuesday. But Fulham chairman Al Fayed has insisted he will not sell to Hughes as he is fuming about the Welshman’s claims that the Craven Cottage club lack ambition. Fulham are prepared to sell their England striker because of his strained relationship with manager Martin Jol. Official But there is likely to be one price tag of around £7million for any other club and a higher valuation for QPR now that Hughes has taken over. Zamora, who turns 31 tomorrow, is believed to be keen on the short move across west London. And Rangers are the only club to make an official bid yet – although Sunderland, Aston Villa and Tottenham have all been monitoring his situation. Zamora’s Fulham strike partner and close pal Andy Johnson was the subject of a £2m bid from QPR before Neil Warnock’s sacking last weekend. But Johnson is believed to have fallen down QPR’s list of priorities now that Hughes has taken over. Sparky would also love to tempt Clint Dempsey from Fulham but those plans will also be met with a sky-high valuation from Al Fayed. Welshman Hughes only agreed to take the QPR job after being promised significant transfer funds by owner Tony Fernandes. But he has so far been frustrated in moves for Zamora as well as his former Blackburn defender Chris Samba. The Rangers boss could also be tempted to make a move for Stephen Ireland even though he has finally forced his way into the first team at Aston Villa. The midfielder, who was desperate to leave a year ago under Gerard Houllier, has blossomed in the last few weeks and Villa will not welcome any attempt to sign him on loan despite the fact they need to slash the wage bill. Hughes knows what Ireland can do from their Manchester City days. But the new Loftus Road gaffer’s most pressing task to to guide Rangers away from the relegation zone, starting today at Newcastle. Hughes said: “Newcastle are playing exceptionally well at the moment and it is not the easiest place to go at the best of times. “It is going to be a tough place for me to start.” Sparky admits he already has ideas about the capabilities of his squad. Problems He said: “I’ve watched even more football than I normally would while I have been out of the game and I have seen QPR matches so I remember certain things. “They stick in your mind and give a perception of the players in the group. The process now is to go through them all quickly to decide where we go. “At some point I’m going to sit down with all these players individually. “I need to know from them where the problems lie and what has happened in the past. “In the jobs I’ve had before I have tried to create a certain environment that allows teams to prosper. “My values and standards are quite high and I have found sometimes when I have gone into places that people have needed to raise their game. Maybe that’s the case here.” www.people.co.uk/sport/football/football-hotline/2012/01/15/marks-hughes-makes-a-move-for-bobby-zamora-but-worries-mohamed-al-fayed-will-price-him-out-of-a-move-102039-23699139/

HARRY REDKNAPP'S READY TO MOVE IN ON CHRIS SAMBA
ABOVE: Spurs will step up their interest in Blackburn’s Chris Samba Spurs to go for Chris Samba 15th January 2012 By Paul Hetherington TOTTENHAM will step up their interest in Blackburn’s Chris Samba after missing out on England defender Gary Cahill.
Spurs were ready to move if Cahill’s switch from Bolton to Chelsea fell through – but a £7million deal was being completed yesterday.
Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp now hopes to be in a position to compete with new QPR manager Mark Hughes for Samba, 27.
And as Redknapp needs to sell before bringing in reinforcements for his title-challenging squad, Hughes’ bid for Spurs winger Steven Pienaar is not dead after a £2m offer was rejected.
Blackburn insist Samba (below) is not for sale but it is understood Indian owners Venky’s will change their stance on a player who wants to leave, if the bidding reaches £10m.
Other clubs could enter the market with whispers about potential interest from Manchester City and Sunderland.
And mega-rich Paris St-Germain are also being linked with the defender.
Hughes still wants Samba, despite being close to signing another central defender – Chelsea’s Alex.
The Cahill deal, meanwhile, was agreed after a compromise on wages at £80,000-a-week.
Chelsea originally offered £70,000-a-week, while the Cahill camp were seeking £100,000.
