Have we been linked with any players who would appear to be direct replacements for Faurlin and/or Taarbs?

That's a worry - in our current squad I don't see another defensive or creative midfielder who can fill these gaps.

Just read that Samba is five months into a five-year contract. I can't imagine how we'd prise him away from Blackburn, unless he puts in a transfer request. Surely, they're not particularly in a need-to-sell mode at the moment, especially given their precarious situation.

Hughes set to make first QPR signing Published 16:03 10/01/12 By MirrorFootball
Mark Hughes is expected to make his first QPR signing in the next couple of days as he bids to drag the club clear of relegation.
With only 21 days of the transfer window remaining, Sparky has little time to act in the market and even less ahead of Rangers' trip to Newcastle on Sunday, before which they could drop into the bottom three.
Chief executive Philip Beard later confirmed negotiations with Hughes had focused heavily on potential transfer targets and said he would attempt to bring in at least one new face before the Newcastle game.
"We're trying and there are one or two players that we've had discussions about," he said."I can't promise that there'll be new players for Sunday."
Beard suggested the priority might be finding a replacement for midfielder Alejandro Faurlin, who was ruled out for the rest of the season on Sunday after rupturing an anterior cruciate ligament.
Hughes, who took charge of first-team training for the first time this afternoon ahead of his formal unveiling at 3pm tomorrow, will be joined at QPR by assistant manager Mark Bowen, first-team coach Eddie Niedzwiecki and goalkeeping coach Kevin Hitchcock.
A raft of players have been linked with Rangers, including Didier Drogba, Alex, Christopher Samba, Nedum Onuoha, Darren Bent, Jermain Defoe, Wayne Bridge and Brazilian striker Henrique.
They have already seen a reported £1.5million-£2million bid rejected for Fulham forward Andy Johnson, who like Blackburn defender Samba has played under Hughes.
QPR's announcement of Hughes' appointment even identified Samba and Manchester City pair Nigel de Jong and Vincent Kompany as players he had previously signed.
Beard said: "Having spoken at length with Mark, I know he is brimming with enthusiasm and anticipation about the challenge of taking QPR forward and I believe he is the perfect choice to deliver the success we all desire."

Bassong ready to leave Tottenham Published 19:23 10/01/12 By MirrorFootball Sebastien Bassong has voiced his frustration at a lack of playing time with Tottenham this season, saying he is open to a move away from the club in the January transfer window.
The Cameroon defender has found himself behind Ledley King, William Gallas, Michael Dawson and Younes Kabul, and has made only five appearances - just one as a start - in the Barclays Premier League this season as a result.
"Whether I stay or I go, we must find a solution," he told L'Equipe. "I need to play.
"The manager and the chairman, they understand my position. But football is a business."

Hughes moves straight for £7m Samba after being confirmed as QPR boss By SAMI MOKBEL Last updated at 10:30 PM on 10th January 2012 Comments (0) Share Mark hughes was confirmed as Queens Park Rangers manager on Tuesday and immediately tabled a £7million bid for Chris Samba. The former Manchester City boss signed a two-and-a-half-year contract, as Sportsmail exclusively predicted on Monday. And Hughes wasted no time in making his mark at Loftus Road by submitting an improved offer for Blackburn Rovers defender Samba. Former Rangers manager Neil Warnock’s £5m offer for Samba was rejected last week but Hughes has made signing him his priority. It is understood Blackburn want at least £8m for their 27-year-old centre half, although it was last night unclear whether they had responded to the new offer. But Hughes, who signed Samba from Hertha Berlin in 2007 when he was Rovers manager, will face competition from Tottenham and paris Saint-Germain, who have also made an enquiry about the Congo defender. With the ink barely dry on his contract, Hughes, accompanied by adviser Kia Joorabchian and Rangers chief executive Phil Beard, went to the club’s Harlington training base in west London to meet his players and explain his plan to keep them in the Barclays Premier League. He assured them they will be given the chance to impress him in the coming weeks but insisted he will not allow his high standards to slip as he tries to guide his new side to safety. Speaking to the club’s official website, Hughes said: ‘I’m fully aware of the challenge in the short and long term and I am genuinely excited about the ambition of the owners. Now the immediate priority is to consolidate our place in the Barclays Premier League, but beyond that, the future is very bright and fills me with great enthusiasm.’ Owner Tony Fernandes added: ‘Mark has a proven track record in the Premier League, bringing a wealth of experience at both club and international level. ‘He has a great passion to achieve as a manager and has already been hugely successful in his career. His ambitions match those of the board and we are delighted to have him at the helm.’ Mark joins the four-club club Mark Hughes is the fifth man to manage four Premier League clubs. Graeme Souness Liverpool, Blackburn, Southampton, Newcastle. Harry Redknapp West Ham, Portsmouth, Southampton, Tottenham. Ron Atkinson Aston Villa, Coventry, Nottm Forest, Sheffield Wednesday. Roy Hodgson Blackburn, Liverpool, Fulham, West Bromwich Albion. Mark Hughes Blackburn, Manchester City, Fulham, QPR. Record run On Sunday, Hughes bids to extend a proud record of never having lost at St James' Park as a manager. Newcastle 0 Blackburn 1 Newcastle 0 Blackburn 2 Newcastle 0 Blackburn 1 Newcastle 2 Man City 2 Newcastle 0 Fulham 0 Hughes and his assistants Mark Bowen and Eddie Niedzwiecki take their first training session today in preparation for Sunday’s trip to Newcastle. Hughes left the training ground at the end of an emotional day for his players after sacked manager Neil Warnock also paid them a surprise visit. Warnock, together with his first-team coaches Keith Curle and Mick Jones, made a quick trip to Harlington to say his final goodbyes to players and staff. He thanked them for their commitment to him during his 22-month reign before making a quick exit. Warnock, 63, will discuss his immediate future with wife Sharon before deciding whether to continue with his managerial career. But Sportsmail understands that Championship strugglers Ipswich have already discussed the possibility of making a move for Warnock should they decide to axe their current manager Paul Jewell. Who is QPR target Henrique? By Christopher Atkins 2012-01-11 02:28:00 VIPCOMM Five key points about the sought-after striker. 1. Twenty-year-old Henrique's biggest claim to fame thus far was his Golden Ball award for best player at the 2011 Under-20 World Cup. He was the tournament's top-scorer with five goals, including two in the semi-final against Mexico. 2. The striker has bagged nine goals in sixteen games for his country at Under-20 and Under-22 level, but at club level his return has been far less consistant. In 2011, twenty-one appearances brought just three goals. 3. Henrique is strong and bullish, packs a good finish and is technically sound. He will work hard for the team even if he is not scoring and has the potential to play from wide if required. If he can add to his reading of the game, hehas the potential to be a very effective striker at club level. 4. After the succesful World Cup campaign, Henrique threatened to leave São Paulo, but signed a new five-year deal in August with a substantial pay-rise. At the time, he had even thought of legal-action against the club for breach of contract over his lack of playing time. However, with Luis Fabiano's return to fitness and the rise of Ademilson, his prospects for game-time in 2012 once again look threatened and so, once more he is looking to move on. 5. At São Paulo since the age of sixteen, Henrique's biggest progress came in a 2010 loan spell at Vítoria, when with regular action he scored four times in eleven starts and added to his glowing reputation. Of Brazil's prospects, Henrique's game is one of the best suited to the demands of the Premier League. www.sambafoot.com/en/news/27594_who_is_qpr_target_henrique_.html

Good find Eusebio - the key line is the last line: Of Brazil's prospects, Henrique's game is one of the best suited to the demands of the Premier League.
The likes of Kompany and Samba were Hughes signings so I'm willing to trust Hughes on this one.

Nikica Jelavic's £50k pay shocker
Nicika Jelavic on hold over switch EXCLUSIVE by THOMAS JORDAN
Share 11 Jan 2012
NIKICA JELAVIC faces an anxious wait to see if QPR’s new boss Mark Hughes will retain interest in him – with a potential £2.5million a year contract up for grabs.
SportTimes understands that representatives of Rangers’ Croatian star asset had agreed a £50,000-a-week contract for the striker to move to Loftus Road this month.
All that was left in order for the deal to happen was for QPR to strike an agreement with the Ibrox club over the transfer fee, with owner Craig Whyte slapping a £10m valuation on the head of the 26-year-old.

Seems like Kia Joorabchian has quite a few in his bag. Would it be any breaching if he was to come with a player to our club? Or is this not a problem since he's not working for the club, but Sparky. Think I might have answered my own question
