Doesn't quite (at all!) fit into this catgeory, but but in the early 1970s, we were constantly linked - to three great Fulham Forwards: Earle, Barrett and Conway
Also not in the question, but special place surely for Alan Mullery!

FOOTBALL: PESCHI POUNCES TO RAISE COTTAGE ROOF; FULHAM 1 QPR 0
| Sunday Mirror, Sep 19, 1999 | by JOHN GUBBA Crowd trouble and a full house of 19,623 - this could have been a trip down memory lane as Fulham triumphed in the first west London showdown with neighbours Rangers for 16 years.
Paul Peschisolido claimed the spoils for the home side when he stole in to poach the 17th-minute winner after Ludek Miklosko failed to hold on to Paul Trollope's free kick.
That sparked disturbances in the corner of the Stevenage Road stand, where a small number of Rangers fans had infiltrated the home support.
Police and stewards quickly moved in to silence the hotheads and quell the menacing atmosphere - still lingering after the kick-off had been delayed for four minutes by an earlier pitch invasion.
With more than 5,500 Rangers fans making up the biggest crowd at Craven Cottage since 1983, and touts in evidence, it was a recipe for confrontation.
In the dying minutes of the first half, that spilled onto the pitch when Rangers striker Rob Steiner was sent off after taking an exaggerated dive.
QPR boss Gerry Francis did not help the atmosphere when he collared referee Rob Styles en route to the dressing room at the break.
Francis was still seething after the final whistle when he fumed: "I am disappointed with the referee's performance.
"I've not seen the video, but I do know that Rob got past his man before he went down."
Added Francis: "I'm proud of the spirit my players have shown, and it was a great turnout today."
At the end of a difficult fortnight for the Loftus Road club, ravaged by meningitis scares and a flu epidemic, it was easy to feel for the emotional Francis.
But it was hard to agree that his side were hard done by.
Even before they were reduced to 10 men, they were outplayed by Fulham.
Peschisolido tormented the Rangers back four, hitting the side netting inside 10 minutes, and Lee Clark's high-quality distribution always gave his side the edge.
Rangers battled gamely with 10 men after the break, Matthew Rose leading from the middle with impressive commitment and skill.
It was no surprise to hear Francis reveal Rose needed to receive oxygen after the match.
But Fulham should have buried QPR. Peschisolido, who went off before the end with a groin injury, should have beaten Miklosko after Clark's snapshot on the turn cannoned off a post.
Geoff Horsfield had an off day. He should have scored when he headed a cross by Symons straight at Miklosko.
Relieved Fulham manager Paul Bracewell concluded: "I'm delighted to keep a clean sheet and win the game. We've had a hard week and there were a lot of tired legs out there. It's never easy against 10 men."
STAR MAN: Lee Clark.
Quality distribution gave midfield a touch of class.
FULHAM: Taylor 6, Finnan 6, Brevett 7, Melville 6, Coleman 7, Symons 7, Trollope 7, CLARK 8 (Collins 5), Horsfield 6, Peschisolido 7 (Hayles, 6), Hayward 6.
QPR: Miklosko 6, Baraclough 6, Ready 6, Rose 7, Langley 7, Scully 6, Wardley 6, Peacock 7, Maddix 7, Steiner 4, Kiwomya 5 (Gallen 5).
MANAGER RATINGS: Bracewell 7; Francis 7.
REFEREE: Rob Styles 7.

QPR boss hopes to end Fulham droughtNEIL Warnock is praying his luck will change when he goes to Fulham on Sunday. As a player and a manager, the QPR boss has never won there in six attempts. In fact, his last appearance at Craven Cottage as a right-winger for Chesterfield in September 1970, netted him a gashed ankle and four stitches. The Spireites lost 2-0 that day, and as manager at Notts County, Plymouth, Huddersfield and Sheffield United he has not gathered so much as a point for his pains down Stevenage Road. However, Warnock believes his best chance of breaking his duck comes with a revived Rangers, who should be three out of three for away wins. A solitary defeat at Wigan in August with the old-look team was still against the run of play. “I just think we’re geared up for away wins, where the onus is on the home team to come at us,” said Warnock. “We had a good away record last season as well, and there’s shades of that with this team.” It will be cold comfort for the Rs manager if Bobby Zamora scores against him on Sunday. Warnock tried to sign the Fulham striker when he was boss at Sheffield United in 2003 – recognising then that Zamora was headed for the top. “It was the season United got to the semi-final of the FA Cup,” said Warnock. “Bob was at Brighton, and I had a go thinking he might fancy a team that had done so well. “But Spurs came in for him, and that was that.” www.fulhamchronicle.co.uk/london-sport/london-qpr/2011/09/30/qpr-boss-hopes-to-end-fulham-drought-82029-29511259/#ixzz1ZQ5LxStE

QPR spree has helped Taarabt - Warnock Neil Warnock has challenged Adel Taarabt to prove he is worthy of a “top club” now he is surrounded by other stars at QPR. When the Moroccan playmaker left Tottenham last year, he claimed Real Madrid and Barcelona were tracking him. This summer, Taarabt revealed to the world that both Chelsea and Arsenal had tried to sign him. Now, after being the undoubted “main man” in Warnock’s Championship-winning team, the 22-year-old is no longer even the most controversial player at Loftus Road following the signing of Joey Barton. But the Hoops boss insisted the new signings at Rangers can help raise Taarabt’s game to a new level - starting with the west London derby at Fulham on Sunday. “Having the other players in has given him a lift because he is just concentrating on playing,” said Warnock. “I think you can see how hard he is trying. “He has been the main man. He was our shining light and has been instrumental to where we are. “Adel knows that if he is going to get his move to one of the top clubs, he knows we need the type of players we have brought in to give him the stage. “The ability that Adel has got is not in question. He has got to put the other part into his game and he is trying hard to go that. "I have said to him that if you look at the top clubs - like Barcelona and Bayern Munich the other night - all the team work their socks off. "I don’t think he is thinking about his next move, not now. I think he just wants to play well. He wants to keep his position in the team. He is a lovely lad, he trains hard - that’s how he is.” The temperamental Taarabt vowed not to play for Morocco under coach Eric Gerets in June after he was dropped to the bench for a match against Algeria. Gerets has now recalled him to a preliminary squad, but warned: “It is not sorted out yet. I want that he knows he did something really stupid. He is very young, I cannot allow myself to kill his international career. When I was young, I also did some daft things. But I love him! “He is a clown who makes a good atmosphere in the team. You need guys like that and their talent.” Taarabt's return to the international fold could take him away in January for the African Cup of Nations. “That will be a relief for me - by January I will be ready to lose him for a month,” Warnock joked. “I will encourage him to go away for a month and let me have a break!”But he added: “It is good for Adel if he is playing him in his position but when I watched him, he [Gerets] played him as a winger and if he does that, he might as well stop with me.” The Yorkshireman also claimed winger Shaun Wright-Phillips is not yet ready for an England recall after three games with Rangers following his move from Manchester City. “Let him enjoy himself for 20 games,” he said. Warnock has never won at Fulham in eight matches as player or manager. “But I have never been to Fulham with a team like this,” he said. “I love Craven Cottage - it has great character, like Loftus Road. "But unfortunately it is only a matter of time before both stadiums are bulldozed because no clubs, playing at the level they are playing at, can sustain that. It is something that will be talked about.” Read more: www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/news/QPR-playmaker-Adel-Taarabt-is-challenged-to-prove-he-belongs-at-a-top-club-by-boss-Neil-Warnock-article806608.html#ixzz1ZWLwlph7 Sign up for MirrorFootball's Morning Spy newsletter Register here
