Bury FC to celebrate promotion with open-top bus parade and civic receptionApril 30, 2011 A huge party is being planned to mark Bury football club’s first league promotion in 14 years. Bury FC’s football stars will parade through the town on an open-top bus to mark the achievement. Hundreds of fans are expected to line the route to welcome the squad and caretaker manager Richie Baker. The Shakers could also be crowned League Two champions by then – they need to beat Wycombe Wanderers at Gigg Lane today then Stevenage away on May 7 and rely on leaders Chesterfield losing one of their remaining two games. The promotion, secured with a thrilling Easter Monday victory at Chesterfield, marks an amazing revival in fortune for the club and brings to an end more than a decade in the basement division. Ten years ago, the cash-strapped club was saved from administration by a fund-raising effort by fans. Then, after narrowly missing out on promotion for two seasons, manager Alan Knill left the club with eight games left this season. But former coach Richie Baker took the reins to win six games in a row to earn automatic promotion to League One. The celebration in Bury will be held next Sunday, May 8. Players will attend a civic reception at the town hall before the short open-top bus parade to The Rock shopping complex. Fans are expected to gather from 1pm with the team due to arrive at the venue 3pm. Peter Young, the club’s commercial manager, added: “This season has been fantastic for Bury FC and it is fitting that we celebrate with our fans who have played such an enormous part in our success.” menmedia.co.uk/manchestereveningnews/news/s/1419441_bury-fc-to-celebrate-promotion-with-open-top-bus-parade-and-civic-reception

The celebrations got under way at 1800 BST with an appearance by the players on the balcony of City Hall. After speeches, an open-top bus began its journey through the city, starting in Theatre Street. It travelled along Rampant Horse Street and Red Lion Street and finished at the far end of Castle Meadow. Organisers said they had expected about 40,000 football fans to gather in the city centre to congratulate their team. "We had amazing scenes of jubilation in the streets last year after the club won promotion from League One and so we expect thousands more people to celebrate promotion to the Premier League," said Laura McGillivray, chief executive of Norwich City Council. Castle Gardens, Castle Green, the bridge and Castle Mound were not being opened to the public or accessible as viewing areas. The newly-refurbished Memorial Gardens, opposite City Hall, was closed to the public until about 2200 BST. St Peters Street and Bethel Street were closed until later and buses into the city centre were being diverted throughout the evening. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-norfolk-13335926

I can imagine this being one of the "What Happened Next" questions on A Question Of Sport next year..........
(Imagine if you will the BBC QOS Studio some time in the near future. A video plays of QPR fans hearing that no points will be deducted and then Warnock, Tarrabt, et al lifting the Championship trophy.)
Sue Barker : So Tuffers, what happened next? Was it :
A : QPR held a massive victory parade (just like every other team that won something).
B : QPR had a civic reception at H&F Council.
or
C : QPR S*** all over their fans and promised the possibility of a celebration once the players who still remained at the club returned to training before the new season?
Tuffers : Erm, was it A?
Sue Barker : No, amazingly it was C!!!!!
(Stunned silence from studio audience and muffled sound of laughter from East Anglia and several other regions of England.....)

Thinking back, Gianni had bought into the club by the time we had our last victory parade (In fact as I recall he even claimed "Victory" with our promotion that season...
So surprising that he of all should have let the club avoid a parade...
