Warnock rejects Mutu talkTuesday 21st December 2010 13:50
Mutu: No QPR move on the cards .QPR manager Neil Warnock has played down talk linking the club with a move for controversial Fiorentina forward Adrian Mutu.
Recent reports have linked the ambitious Championship club with a shock swoop for the former Chelsea striker.
Mutu, who is currently at Fiorentina, has endured a controversial career having only recently returning to action after a nine-month ban for twice testing positive for the banned stimulant sibutramine.
The Romanian was also sacked by Chelsea in 2004 after failing a drugs test for cocaine and then he lost his final appeal against his sacking and was ordered to pay the Blues ÂŁ14.3million in compensation.
Fiorentina are thought to be open to offers for Mutu with QPR's owners believed to be weighing up a move for the 31-year-old.
However, Warnock has laughed off the rumours and insists there are no plans to bring Mutu to Loftus Road.
Asked about the possibility of signing of Mutu, Warnock told Sky Sports News: "No I don't think so. There are always possibilities - you don't say no to anybody.
"We have contacts in Italy and in one or two other places with good players.
"Like anybody else the owners are in conversations with many people and names are pushed forward and they put it past me.
"But at the moment we are not thinking of anything substantial like that.".http://www.teamtalk.com/championship/6606263/Warnock-rejects-Mutu-talk

Mutu? Silly season has started early. He still owes Chelsea €20m - maybe we can just extract payment at source.

And from the Daily Mail... QPR line up sensational swoop for sacked Chelsea striker Adrian MutuBy Sami Mokbel EXCLUSIVE Queens Park Rangers look prepared to do whatever it takes to land Premier League football after discussing a shock move for Adrian Mutu. The Loftus Road club are sitting pretty at the top of the Championship after an 19-game unbeaten start to the season. And high level talks at the west London club have seen the controversial former Chelsea striker mentioned as a possible January target. Manager Neil Warnock wants to bolster his attacking options once the transfer window re-opens next month. Sportsmail understands Rangers chairman Gianni Paladini has good contacts with Serie A side Fiorentina - who have made it clear to the Italian that they'd consider letting Mutu leave the Viola. And making a move for Mutu is an option Rangers are giving consideration to. Whether Mutu would be prepared to move to the second tier of English football remains to be seen, while despite their financial clout, Rangers would struggle to match the Romanian's wages. Mutu's chequered past in England may also provide a stumbling block to a possible move. He was sacked by Chelsea in 2004 after failing a drugs test and has only just returned from another ban in Italy after testing positive for banned stimulant sibutramine. Nevertheless, Rangers' interest in Mutu shows they mean business in their bid to bring top-flight football back to Loftus Road. Warnock tried to play down the possibility of bringing in the 31-year-old, but said: 'There are always possibilities - you don't say no to anybody. 'We have contacts in Italy and in one or two other places with good players. 'Like anybody else the owners are in conversations with many people and names are pushed forward and they put it past me. 'But at the moment we are not thinking of anything substantial like that.' www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1340727/QPR-line-sacked-Chelsea-striker-Adrian-Mutu.html?ito=feeds-newsxml

Fulham Chronicle Yann Tear/ QPR cool on Adrian MutuADRIAN MUTU will not be coming to Loftus Road – in spite of talks between Flavio Briatore (pictured) and his contacts at Fiorentina, where the Romania striker is currently plying his trade.Neil Warnock fears the former Chelsea player would be too lightweight for the promotion battle, in spite of his undoubted abilities. “Neil doesn't believe Adrian is for him,” said a source at the club. “I think it's a case of thinking that Mutu would be unsuited to the Championship because of the physical demands. “His feeling is you can maybe get away with being that type of player in the Premier League, but not in the Championship and you also become a target. “Besides, he also feels he already has the flair player he needs in Adel Taarabt.” Mutu, who will be 32 in January, was one of the first wave of Roman Abramovich signings in 2003, but was sacked a year later and fined for breach of contract after failing a drugs test. He was also the subject of a lengthy compensation claim by the Blues, which is still on-going. Briatore quashes Mutu linkViola forward not set for Loftus Road move Last updated: 26th December 2010 ... Mutu: Controversial forward SKY SPORTS ON SKY ..Fiorentina striker Adrian Mutu will not be making the switch to Queens Park Rangers, according to Flavio Briatore. The 31-year-old Romanian forward has been linked with a move to the Championship leaders but Briatore, who recently handed control of the club over to Bernie Ecclestone, has denied the rumours. Controversial attacker Mutu, who returned from a drugs ban to play for the Viola in October, has had previous stints with Inter Milan, Parma, Chelsea and Juventus. But Briatore, who has contacts with the Italian club, insists he will not be arriving at Loftus Road in the future.
He said in the Daily Star: "At this moment we are not interested in Mutu. There is a coach who decides who he wants and he is happy with the team he has. "Adrian will surely find many teams in Italy who want him. I do not understand why Fiorentina would let anyone take him. "But for our part, we can exclude interest in Adrian Mutu 100 per cent." . www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11866_6614539,00.html

Mutu definitely sounds like Warnock's kind of player! www.footballitaliano.co.uk/p6_1_5308_mutu-abandons-fiorentina-training-session.htmlFootball Italiano Mutu abandons Fiorentina training session By Varun Mathure Wednesday 05 January 2011 The increasingly tense relationship between Adrian Mutu and Fiorentina hit a new low after the Romanian walked away in the middle of the team's training session presumably upon being dropped from the squad to face Bologna. The ex-Chelsea man has had a ton of trouble this term with La Viola and only just ended his eight-month suspension from the game for use of a banned substance. A statement on Fiorentina's website read as follows: "The footballer Adrian Mutu has now unilaterally and without giving any justification left the training session. This sudden decision, causes damage to the competitiveness of Fiorentina, given that the failure to complete today's workout session resulted in the player not being convened for the important trip to Bologna. A meeting between the club and the representative of the player in which he discussed the future of the latter has been arranged following this incident. This act of insubordination and failure to comply with the mesh and the team, last but not least of a succession of constantly inappropriate conduct committed by the player Mutu, Fiorentina are ready to consider any legal action action against the player in its capacities." From the club's statements it seems certain that Mutu has played his last game in a Fiorentina shirt. La Viola are apparently desperate to offload the player and reports suggested they are even ready to offer him for 'free'.
