"... But QPR manager Neil Warnock is also willing to take a chance on the soccer bad-boy" - When I think "Bad-Boy" I think, Mark Dennis or Stan Bowles - 'problem' players - Not jailbirds for crimes such as Kings Mirror - QPR join Coventry in the race for jailbird Marlon King Published 23:00 29/07/10 By James Nursey QPR have joined the chase for jailbird Marlon King. Striker King, 30, was released from prison yesterday after being jailed for 18 months last October. He is free after serving nine months for sexually assaulting and causing actual bodily harm to a woman in December 2008. The forward, who had 13 previous convictions, was immediately sacked by Premier League Wigan Athletic. But King now intends to resume his professional career after staying in shape behind bars. Coventry boss Aidy Boothroyd, who successfully managed King at Watford, is favourite to work with the striker again. King is a scumbag do not care what he does on the field he is in jail for a crime that anyone normal would never work again and at the time of his time in jail his agent went on the radio and was vile. If we sign him then it says this club is a moral bankrupt.

You'd think every club would feel the same but obviously (presumably) some club - maybe Coventry will sign him

Sadly report i remember the case of Bob Malcolm when he got done and QPR was told by Derby not to play him and they did says it all.
Plus at the end of the day it is one thing to do time for a crime and that person to get 2nd chance of course they do but some crimes are of a kind that once guilt is proven you're 2nd chance goes out the window.
His is one of them.

It better not be us!!!!!
I'll email the club in the morning when I've "calmed down" a tad.
I'll even start a petition if necessary.
It's not as if it's a one off, is it? Repeat offender of a vile and disgusting crime.

He's in for an interesting career if he joins here. Nothing worse than being booed by your own fans at your own place every game.

The thing is that the way rangers f*ck things up it could be true!! again if we buy this vile woman beater then ther will be sections of our fans who will cheer him and sections who will quite rightly boo the animal, again this will divide the crowd and lead to un-rest!!JUST DONT BUY THE W*NKER ITS AS SIMPLE AS THAT!!!!! LETS FACE IF WE ARE INTERESTED IN GETTING HIM HERE ITS BECAUSE HE IS CHEAP!!! ANY CLUB WHO EMPLOYS HIM HAS NO MORALS!

If he has served his time then he has served his time, characters do reform, it is a risk if he does it again then I will look a right plum, but lorry drivers get their licences back after a drink driving ban, but you dont see me or anyone laying across the A12 to stop them going back to what they know to earn money. We have to move on, I hope he gets a club, if he doesn't then The risk of re offending is higher regardless of a city brokers or footballers.
Yes he will get booed but he would for anything, Lets not get imprisoned in our own righteousness.

"The forward, who had 13 previous convictions, was immediately sacked by Premier League Wigan Athletic." With you on this one CPR. All for giving a guy a second chance, but some footballers seem to think they have a God given right to make a living from their skills no matter what they get up to. The guy is scum, say no more. And as for his agent (former Palace legend Tony Finnigan) well all he has done is prove most of our opinions of agents are true.... Well done to Dave Whelan for refusing to have him back at Wigan. And finally incase we forget, this wasn't a victimless crime....

I'm disgusted to hear that we are linked to him(although I realise it is a journalist saying that and not Rangers). QPR is a family club. Enough said.

First if this had been something that occurred many years ago, and there had been signs that King honestly and sincerely was trying to redeem himself/seek forgiveness/do work to help others, that might be one thing...
If King had been convicted of a relatively-victimless crime, maybe a case could be made....
And obviously King should be allowed to work...But that doesn't mean he should be allowed to work in football.
The fans and the club keep talking about players being role models...
The message sent by having King play for QPR would be the exact opposite....
Every goal he scored (and I'm sure he would score)...Every word of praise for King in the QPR Programme and Site, would be another nail in the "QPR as Family/Role Model" Coffin

Can't believe the QPR name is even being linked to this scum.

My great respect to Warnock for saying no.
Any support for King is misjudged. He is a persistent repeat offender who has not learnt anything from all the other times. He smashes up those who are weaker than him. My opinion of him could not be lower.
For him to be employed in the public eye would be an insult to his victims. To walk back into into the glamorous role of being a football player, ugh..that just sickens me.
There are others ways for him to earn a living like the rest of us.

so should he be allowed to work at all?
you make a special case for him and say no, what about all the ex offenders that need to go back to work? a vary tough gospel is preached here, what next ex-cons not allowed to watch football because former victims might be watching the game on telly?

Well I think being a footballer is a role model...
I think as I said if this had occurred years back and he was seeking redemption...
I'm not trying to ban him. If some club wants him fine. But not my club.
And obviously there is the other side: He's done his time, etc, as you say...

I agree to all your comments, and I would struggle to cheer him if he scored for us, but you may as well stop all ex-offenders from ever working again, that way everyone will be happy.......... until they fall foul of the law.
And you are either convicted or you are acquitted, regardless of crime, I will expect some non- payers of the council tax and tv licence may want a higher achy on sin, but its all sin in my book.
any way, come on u rs!

........... He's done his time, etc, as you say... Ahh but has he? He's hardly served his full sentence If I ever saw him on the pitch at Selhurst (clearly from a visiting team you understand) I would find it very difficult restraining myself not hurling abuse at him. But hey, maybe that's just the yob in me lol. No just kidding (me being a yob that is) but the man is quite clearly a first class cvnt! (sorry). Incidents and legal cases: While on loan to Hull City, King was alleged to have headbutted teammate Dean Windass in a casino in Scarborough. Hull City stated that the matter had been dealt with internally, and both players remained with the club. Windass later described the incident as a "storm in a teacup". King has convictions for 14 offences, dating from 1997. He has received fines, driving bans, community service sentences, a rehabilitation order and orders to pay compensation on convictions including: theft from a person and from a car, criminal damage, and attempting to obtain property by deception; fraudulent use of vehicle licence document, driving without insurance, speeding, drink driving; a wounding incident while playing amateur football, and two cases involving assault of young women rejecting his advances in the Soho area of London. Two cases have led to imprisonment. In May 2002 he received an eighteen month prison sentence for receiving stolen goods, in relation to a BMW convertible that he was found driving. He was found not guilty of a charge of assaulting a police officer in a related case. His solicitor commented that "His reputation will be tarnished forever, whatever success he achieves, he'll always be referred to in a Tyson-esque way as someone who has had a criminal past and that is a considerable penalty. Gillingham continued to pay his salary while he was in jail, and supported in his appeal, which resulted in the sentence being reduced to nine months, and he was released on licence after five months, returning to the Gillingham team within two days of his release. In December 2008, again in the Soho area, he was arrested on suspicion of punching a 20 year-old female university student in the face, causing a broken nose and split lip for which she was treated in hospital. He was later convicted of sexual assault and assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and sentenced to 18 months in prison and placed on the sex offender register for seven years. He has indicated he will appeal against the length of his jail sentence. Wigan Athletic immediately initiated the cancellation of his contract. King was released from prison on 29 July 2010 after serving 9 months of his 18 month sentence. Should he ever work again? No fcuk him!

I think 13 convictions says it all. Anyone with that many, obviously has no respect for the law or no fear for the consequences of his actions. He should have faced a very lengthy spell that would see him inside until well past his football playing days are over.
In situations like these I put myself in the position of the victims and their families and wonder how they would feel to see him on TV running around the football pitch possibly being cheered on by thousands of fans. It would hurt like hell and I would be planning my own form of retribution.

There are precedents for behaviour outside of the game to affect your career.
If you get caught taking cocaine like Mutu you get a huge ban.
If you get banned in another sport like for instance F1 then you cannot own a football club. We all know that rule is particularly effective.
When it comes to criminal behaviour I'd say there should be something in place that draws a line. I don't know how many chances you allow but in this case even a "10 strikes and you're out" rule would have covered it. I also think that if football (quite rightly) has a zero tolerance attitude to racism then it should also have zero tolerance towards players that commit sexual crimes and end up on the sex offenders register.

It's mad isn't it. abuse yourself with drugs, you get banned. Abuse others both physically and sexually and it's ok to carry on. There is something wrong with the system and more importantly, with those prepared to give him, yet another chance ffs!
Wants a good hiding really.

Exactly how I feel, he has served his sentence, fine. He should get another chance, but hardly as a football player being a childrens hero and role model. Give him a proper job, but never again as a football player.
