Tottenham Hotspur sign Sheffield United defendersTimes Online
Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed the signings of Kyle Naughton and Kyle Walker from Sheffield United.
No fee was disclosed for either of the England youth international defenders, but Walker will return to United on loan as part of the deal.
Kevin Blackwell, the United manager, will also be able to take Tottenham players on loan as part of the deal. "Having Walker available is a very important part of our strategy and it's exciting to have the chance to talk with Tottenham and judge whether any other of their players might fit into our squad," he said. "If we think that someone could help us we could take them on a short-term loan throughout August and, if required, extend it to a season-long arrangement after that.
"Our academy is proving its worth in producing assets for Sheffield United and, in these current uncertain financial times, we are pursuing a policy we believe will enable me to try and build a competitive team whilst developing the club's long-term future.
Naughton, 20, attracted the interest of several Premier League clubs after becoming a stand-out player for United last season. He began the season as the regular right-back, but can also play in midfield and eventually moved to the left-hand side of defence to accommodate Walker, his fellow United academy product.
Naughton, a boyhood United fan, made his debut for the club in August and went on to make 50 appearances, earning recognition with a place in the PFA Championship Team of the Year.
Walker is the less experienced of the pair. The 19-year-old broke into the team at the end of last season, with the England Under-19 defender making seven appearances, including all three of United's games in the Championship play-offs.

Naughton had looked to be on his way to Everton when the Merseysiders agreed a fee with United last week, but Tottenham have succeeded with a late move by targeting both players.
