BBC - QPR 4-1 Cheltenham March 18, 2003
- Crowd of 11,000+ at Loftus Road
Queens Park Rangers helped their promotion ambitions with an impressive win against relegation-battling Cheltenham.
But it was not plain sailing all the way for QPR as Cheltenham grabbed a shock lead after just six minutes.
Grant McCann's free-kick was met by the head of Mike Duff with Martin Devaney in the right place to poke the ball home.
Nevertheless, a brilliant piece of skill turned the game five minutes from half-time as Lee Cook beat three defenders before finding the unmarked Kevin Gallen who swept in his 14th goal of the season.
Right on half-time QPR demoralised Cheltenham by taking the lead.
Assists hat-trick
Richard Langley's clever through-ball seemed destined for Gallen's boot only for Robins defender Duff to get there first and put past his own goalkeeper.
It was a night which was to get worse for Duff as he was stretchered off after 52 minutes.
It took Rangers just three minutes to take advantage of Duff's absence as they put the game out of reach with a third goal.
Gallen's shot was blocked but with his second chance he fed Langley whose low centre was fired in by Cook at the far post.
Langley completed a hat-trick of assists on 63 minutes as Rangers confirmed their superiority.
His low ball into Paul Furlong saw the striker turn superbly and thump in the fourth goal.
QPR had further chances through Marc Bircham, Cook, Andy Thomson and Steve Palmer, but Cheltenham kept going until the end to keep the score respectable.
QPR: Day, Forbes, Carlisle, shiteeeeetu, Williams, Langley, Bircham, Palmer, Cook, Gallen, Furlong. Subs: Padula, Griffiths, Pacquette, Thomson, Angell.
Cheltenham: Higgs, Howarth, Mike Duff, Shane Duff, Victory, Devaney, Yates, Finnigan, McCann, Brough, Spencer. Subs: Book, Griffin, Milton, Alsop, Brown.
