FA STATEMENT: CITY-SHOWUNMI FINED
The following press release has been issued by the Football Association today.
An independent Regulatory Commission has reached its verdicts on charges issued against Bristol City FC, their former player Enoch Showunmi (now of Leeds United FC) and football agent Charles Collymore.
All parties were charged with misconduct for matters relating to Showunmi's move to the club in 2006. Mr Collymore and Mr Showunmi also faced charges relating to alleged breaches of the FA Football Agents Regulations (2006) and FIFA Players' Agents Regulations concerning his representation of Showunmi during the player's time at Luton Town.
Bristol City admitted a breach of the FA Football Agents Regulations for dealing with an unlicensed agent, Mark Wilson, in respect of the engagement and/or registration of Showunmi between May and July 2006. The club was fined £15,000 (£5,000 of which was suspended for two years) and warned as to its future conduct.
In light of Bristol City's admission, The FA withdrew a second allegation that the club broke FA Rules by paying £30,000 to licensed agent Charles Collymore purportedly for services provided by him under a representation contract with the club knowing that the payment was partly or wholly for services provided by an unlicensed agent.
The independent Regulatory Commission found proven charges that Enoch Showunmi engaged the services of an individual, Mark Wilson, who was not a licensed agent or entitled to act in such a capacity, to represent him in contract negotiations with Luton Town in or around February 2004 and between November 2005 and January 2006. Showunmi admitted a separate charge of using the same person in respect of contract negotiations with Bristol City in or around May to July 2006. The Commission fined Showunmi a total of £2,000 for the three breaches and warned him as to his future conduct.
Charles Collymore was charged with entering into a sham arrangement with an unlicensed agent, Mark Wilson, in respect of the engagement and registration of Showunmi with Bristol City. It was alleged that he received payment of £30,000 from the club for services rendered in whole or in part by the unlicensed agent Mark Wilson.
Collymore was also charged with breaches of the FA Football Agents Regulations (2006) and FIFA Players' Agents Regulations by allegedly representing Showunmi without a representation contract and touting Showunmi, then of Luton Town, without the knowledge or consent of Luton and in breach of League rules.
Collymore denied all the charges issued against him. The independent Regulatory Commission found the charges against Mr Collymore not proved.
