Julio Cesar: The goalkeeper was a key part of Inter Milan's Champions League success in 2010
Queens Park Rangers are on the brink of signing Julio Cesar after previously thinking it would not be possible to tempt the Inter Milan goalkeeper to Loftus Road.
Sky Sports earlier on Tuesday revealed the veteran shot-stopper was in London to hold talks and a deal could soon be completed, much to the shock of QPR boss Mark Hughes
Brazil international Cesar was a key part of Inter's UEFA Champions League win two years ago but now looks set to leave the Italian giants.
"There's nothing concluded yet," Hughes said after Tuesday night's win over Walsall in the Capital One Cup. "There are a number of papers that need to go back.
Intention
"We're not at a point where we can actually say it's a done deal. The intention is there obviously if we can but at the moment it's not concluded.
"I said I wanted to have two quality goalkeepers this window if at all possible. Sometimes when opportunities present itself you want to pursue them.
"When you get an opportunity to possibly bring a player of the quality Julio Cesar's quality, with his playing record and his mentality, then I think you have to pursue to its conclusion.
"I think when we started the process we probably never thought there was an opportunity or chance he would be able to come here. If we are able to conclude it, we'll be delighted."
“We haven’t made the investment of this summer to simply compete at the same level as last season. The investment has been made so that we feel we are a club which can compete against – and beat – every club we play.”
He just needs to sort out an argument he's having with Levy over Tottenham finishing 4th last season and Levy not paying the Champions League bonus as they didn't get into the Champions League!
Tony Fernandes: “Many people do not realise the power of sport to market a brand” “You can spend £40 million on advertising and have nothing like the same effect." “It can’t be about one benefactor. I might be hit by a bus".

QPR boss plans to have words with Rob Green over move for Cesar
By Paul Warburton
ENGLAND keeper Rob Green could find himself on the QPR bench after only three games if the deal to bring in Brazil’s Julio Cesar goes through in the next 48 hours. Backup and Secure information
Boss Mark Hughes admitted the move for the Inter Milan star is very much on, but he would sit down and discuss with Green (pic) the challenge to his spot.
The man signed from West Ham just two months ago got off to a dreadful start in the opening hammering by Swansea – but Hughes insists Cesar appearing out of the blue is perfect timing to bolster the squad.
The manager said: “There’s nothing concluded and papers are going back and forth – but the intention (to sign Cesar) is there.
“Sometimes when opportunities present themselves you have to take advantage of them.
“I haven’t had a chance to go through it with him (Green) because I’ve been concerned with preparing for the game against Walsall.
“But it’s a challenge, and what we’re trying to do here is improve the quality of the group and that includes the goalkeeping position as well.â€

Why would anyone worry about wages. Its really simple math actually. Cesar will be around 55-60k. With Barton leaving thats 70-80k gone. So we have a net gain of around 20k!

not when we will still be paying most of Bartons wages

Bartons not being loaned anymore, we are giving him a free transfer, not a loan.

Not saying that ive lost complete faith in Hughes here...but is anyone not questioning this move in the least bit? It stinks of panic and uncertainty. Not saying it won't work out, but I think this is an appropriate time to be skeptical.

Barton leaving; Cesar joining?

Mark Hughes says Joey Barton's proposed move to Marseille could be back on and that QPR are close to signing Inter Milan goalkeeper Julio Cesar.
The former captain, who is in the midst of a 12-game ban, revealed earlier on Tuesday that a move to Marseille looked to be off.
However, following QPR's Capital One Cup victory over Walsall, Hughes said: "The Marseille ordeal may not be dead in the water.
"We might be able to get a solution for everybody. This option has attracted Joey's enthusiasm so hopefully it is concluded."
Meanwhile he is shocked the west Londoners are pulling off a move for Cesar.
The Brazil international was a key part of the Italian side's Champions League win two years ago but now looks set to leave the San Siro for W12.
Cesar was at Loftus Road on Tuesday to discuss terms ahead of the win over Walsall and looks set to pen a deal with the Hoops.
"There's nothing concluded yet," Hughes said. "There are a number of papers that need to go back.
"We're not at a point where we can actually say it's a done deal.
The intention is there obviously if we can but at the moment it's not concluded.
"I said I wanted to have two quality keepers this window if at all possible. Sometimes when opportunities present itself you want to pursue them.

"I think when we started the process we probably never thought there was an opportunity or chance he would be able to come here. If we are able to conclude it, we'll be delighted."
The move for Cesar has surprised some given QPR signed West Ham and England goalkeeper Rob Green earlier in the summer.
The 32-year-old penned a two-year deal with the Hoops but looks set to lose his number one spot after just three games.
Green kept his first clean sheet for the club against Walsall this evening and Hughes admits he did not manage to speak to him about the prospective Cesar acquisition before the game.
"I haven't had a chance to really talk to him about it," he said.
"Obviously I was concerned with the preparation for the game, but certainly I will sit down with Rob and go thought it.
"It is a challenge for everybody. What we're trying to do here is improve the quality of the group and that includes the goalkeeping position as well."
Hughes is also in the hunt for central defenders, with Real Madrid's Ricardo Carvalho and Tottenham club captain Michael Dawson amongst those targeted.
"That was the plan at the beginning of the window," he said.
"Probably of all the players we have gone after, that is the one position where we haven't really been able to address.
"We're looking at options right upto the window closing. Whether or not we'll be able to do it, I am not sure.
"Certainly it is an area we are certainly looking to bring one more in."
warnock backed his players all the way. its why kenny was so good for us and many more players besides.
he also slagged them off after a mistake. but always trusted them to play them again..
dont see this patience in hughes. is that good or bad?
He never slagged off Barton.Weather he bought Barton or not he let him waltz in, trash the dressing room not a peep from our Neil. Eeeee He's a great player that Joey. Eeeeeee.I'm just glad to be here me.. For this league give me boring old Sparky any day... Now the Championship .thats another story .

Don't think anyone has a problem signing Cesar - per se. (Even if Butland also wanted!) It's the signing of Cesar AFTER signing Green - who must be earning 50K, 60 K a week -3 million a year + presumably signing bonuses. And the contention, that this was always our plan to have two "top" goalies. Well we'll see if Green feels the same. From England #2 to Back up Goalie in 3 months?
I don't believe Green is as bad as we might think...
