London 2012: North Koreans walk off after flag row
The North Korean women's football team walked off the pitch at their Olympic match in Glasgow after their images were shown on a screen beside a South Korean flag.
Kick-off was scheduled for 19:45 BST but the game started over an hour late.
North Korea beat Colombia 2-0 in the second of the Olympic matches held at Hampden Park on Wednesday.
Games organisers in London have apologised to North Korean officials for the mistake.
The error occurred when a video package was being shown ahead of kick-off, with the North Koreans noticing that their faces were being pictured alongside the South Korean flag.
The squad walked off and could only be persuaded to return when the teams were announced again with each player's face displayed next to the North Korean flag.
The BBC's sports editor David Bond said it was an "embarrassing mistake" and not the start Games organisers would have wanted on the first day of sporting action, but "no great harm was done".
Relations between the two Koreas have been tense since the outbreak of the Korean War.
Speaking after the match, North Korea's coach Sin Ui Gun said: "Our team was not going to participate unless the problem was solved properly.
"Unfortunately it took some time later for the broadcast to be done again properly and we made the decision to go on with the match."
He added: "Our players cannot be shown especially with other flags, especially the South Korean one.
"If this matter had not been solved, continuing would have been a nonsense."
A statement released by London 2012 organisers said: "Today ahead of the women's football match at Hampden Park, the South Korean flag was shown on a big screen video package instead of the North Korean flag.
"Clearly that is a mistake, we will apologise to the team and the National Olympic Committee and steps will be taken to ensure this does not happen again."
It was not immediately clear who had produced the video which was shown in the stadium.
London 2012 spokesman Andy Mitchell said: "The South Korean flag was shown in the video package on the screen before the kickoff and the North Koreans were naturally very upset about that.
"We have made a full apology to the team and the North Korean NOC. A genuine mistake was made for which we apologise."
South Korea will face North Korea in the first round of the men's Olympic table tennis team event after the pair were drawn against each other on Wednesday.
The first event of the Olympics got under way at 1600 BST at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium on Wednesday and ended in a win for Team GB over New Zealand in the women's football. Two matches also took place at the City of Coventry stadium.

Olympic absentee Gareth Bale scores for Spurs in friendly
Gareth Bale admits he is "well ahead of schedule" after making a scoring return in Tottenham's 1-1 pre-season friendly draw with Los Angeles Galaxy.
The Wales international pulled out of Team GB's Olympic 18-man squad, who start their London 2012 campaign on Thursday, because of a back injury.
Fifa president Sepp Blatter has warned injured players could be banned if they play for clubs during their Olympics.
But BBC Sport understands the FA will not be making a complaint to Fifa.
The 23-year-old was not fit to play when the original Team GB squad was announced. However he has since made a rapid recovery.
Bale played 74 minutes of the match and later told Spurs TV Online: "After about 65 minutes my calf started to cramp up a bit but it was a good workout. It was one that I needed and it was good to get a goal as well.
"My rehab's gone very well at the club - we are well ahead of schedule.
"I am glad to be back. It's important to get a pre-season under my belt for the season forthcoming so I am just delighted to be back now without any problems."
It is understood the FA will not lodge a formal complaint with Fifa about Bale's appearance for Tottenham and will instead turn its attentions to ensuring the Team GB squad are focused on their opening Olympic match against Senegal on Thursday.
But Blatter said if any comnplaint was made it would be dealt with: "The principle is that if a club does not release a player then this association can come to Fifa and we will then ban this player during the duration of the Olympics. Continue reading the main story

"So far nobody came to Fifa to say we should, but it is a possibility we could ban these players if they are not at the disposal of the national team.
"Fifa's position has never been so clear than it is now for the Olympics 2012 and 2016."
Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas, who saw David Lopes cancel out Bale's goal, said he was pleased to see the Welsh midfielder return to action: "He came back to us during this week, so [we had to] control the amount of effort he could put in.
"Gareth is extremely young and physically a beast, so he was able to put on the effort, and we extended [his time] because we want him to complete a certain amount of minutes before we start the season."
Villas-Boas did suffer a blow with playmaker Rafael van der Vaart and right-back Kyle Walker having to go off with injury in the side's first match of their US tour.
Spurs will next play Premier League rivals Liverpool in Baltimore on Saturday.

Had tickets for the Ricoh Arena last night for their opening day. Japan much better than Canada and Sweden absolutely outclassed South Africa (if its the same Sweden team we did well to draw). Published 18200 attendance although I struggled with that. A good night as everyone wanted to have a bit of fun and as we hadnt any partizan attachment we just enjoyed the football and clapped every good pass, move and goal whoever it was. Not a bad night at all. Gramps' comment! Well he has a point, but it wasn't just the football, it was all that went with it. I wouldnt travel to our local athletics meet to watch the 100 metre sprints but I would travel to see Usain Bolt compete in an olympic event, its just a different level for whatever sport thats on. Same for me with swimming, cycling, javelin etc but when the 'Olympic' label is attached to it, its different, and I think it absolutely will inspire a generation as they hope.

I guess it is a question of personal choice but I have to say that I don't have the remotest interest in the Olympics or anything to do with it. The sooner it is over, the better as far as I am concerned. What worries me more is how the country, already in financial straits, will recover from the vast expenditure of this fiasco. As a matter of interest, I was contacted by BBC Radio Essex to do a commentary on the Olympic Flame as it passed the church of which I am a member. I had to be totally honest with them and turn it down because I could not whip up enough enthusiasm.

Due to the heat the game was played at a slower pace than normal, but still was a good game with plenty of passing and great movement from both sides and was therefore exciting to watch.
England womens team usually play a patient passing game, slowly building attacks up from the back and GBR look as if they're playing a similar style.
All in all a decent game, a great result against fairly tough opposition whom are certainly one of the more physical sides in the competition so also good to get them out the way and looking forward to the mens tonight.

I actually disagree with you on this. I went to a lot of Women's World cup (under 20 /17?) games here Gramps and found the womens standard of football more entertaining, skillful than I have seen from the senior men. They weren't afraid to try something out of the ordinary. Some excellent goals. England V Brazil was an excellent game.

OLYMPIC TORCH PASSES LOFTUS ROAD Posted on: Thu 26 Jul 2012
The Olympic Torch passed by Loftus Road Stadium on Thursday afternoon, as the countdown to the Opening Ceremony of the London 2012 Olympics edges ever closer.
After travelling 8,000 miles across the UK, the Flame visit Hammersmith and Fulham today - a day before its final stop at the Olympic Stadium, in Stratford, and the start of the Games.
Hundreds lined the streets to see Felix Allocca carry it past the world famous home of the R's, with the occasional Rangers-related chant echoing down South Africa Road.
Tomorrow, the torch will enter the Olympic Park, and will be used to light the cauldron.

"..I also find it insulting that qpr-reports site are asking so many questions. They seem to want to know everything that goes on at the club..." |

Just another small point on womens football. They didn't dive, roll about in agony or try and get opposition players carded (not in the games I watched anyway). Thats refreshing, we cant learn much from womens football but that would be good.
