New Official Site's - An Improvement in One Area
« Thread Started on Jul 19, 2012, 9:29am »

As we all know we will be getting a new Official Site soon so I though to have a look round other teams sites and see if any had updated theirs already.

This one has been done by the same company we are using.

http://www.theposh.com/

Looks great IMO

According to Ian Taylor it is going live tomorrow:

Back in the office tomorrow. New website goes live (still work in progress) and then 3,500 R's descend on Wycombe!

Sure they can make it more flashy and more photos or video, etc. And people are happy with that, fine.

For myself, I'm interested in CONTENT and news. And beyond injury news and signings and other hard news - and of course to degree game video, that's all I want from the site. For real news, probably won't get much from there.

Going First Class on the Squad and the training facilities and the new stadium etc, etc.

Hmmm, what's left?

They need something stable and solid, not covered in 50 banner ads and flashing lights.

Soon

QPR Official Site

NEW WEBSITE COMING SOON!
Posted on: Tue 31 Jul 2012

As previously communicated via www.qpr.co.uk - the club's official website will have a new-look and feel ahead of the 2012/13 Barclays Premier League season.

Many clubs under the FLi umbrella have already completed the transfer across to the new platform, while a host of clubs, including the R's, will be doing so very soon.

The current QPR Player service will, however, be delivered via its current platform (Perform Group) and subscribers will be able to access this through the new site.

The transfer to a new platform is expected to go live on Tuesday 7th August.

Some users will be able to see the new platform immediately, while, for other supporters, it may take a bit longer.

Once live, supporters will be able to see news articles from the last few weeks and anything fresh that the club's communications team uploads to the website.

A selection of older articles will be made available in due course.

The patience and understanding of all the website's readers will be appreciated during this changeover period.

Work is continuing around the clock to make www.qpr.co.uk look as good as it can, whilst making navigation around the site as painless as possible.

FLi's new website partners are continuing to upgrade the platform on a daily basis, so errors are being addressed and fixed across the network.

However, if you want to have your say and leave some feedback, or identify a few teething issues, drop us an e-mail to website@qpr.co.uk

not a big fan of these templates, I'm afraid. Still seems pretty cluttered, and a little clunky.

Still, I'll reserve judgement until I see what we can come up with.

Very blocky, very front page / desk top publisher / dreamweaver-ish and to be honest why are we still using a company that re-produce and use templates? If we are to be a big club why don't we have our OWN web site. Do Coca Cola copy Pepsi and would Glaxo Smithkline copy Pfizer? I think not.

That Stoke site is F***ing awful. Feel sorry for their fans. If our official site is as bad as that, I forsee even less visitors than it has now.

And here it comes

IanJTaylor ‏@IJTaylor81

New website launches today. Decent improvement in my opinion but still restricted. Should flush through in 24hrs max for all web users #QPR

And IT'S ON! ... Errrm :(

I remember them boasting that the new provider will let QPR choose a unique template (which is an oxymoron in itself) so almost every club will have an original look.

Now everyone looks exactly the same, exactly as it was before... But more importantly - it's bland. It's not a step forward. It looks like a site for an amateur football team. I know you can be minimal and simplistic and look excellent - but this is the ultimate blandness and mediocrity of design and creativity.

BOO.

If you tweet Ian Taylor how much you like it, you'll get an Ian Taylor Retweet

If you say you don't like it, I think there will be no such retweet!

For me the site is as I expected, having looked at other club sites. And I think I'll hold off comment until I get used to it. Certainly not a case of saying "WOW. This is great."

Ultimately for me the issues are content - and ease of use.

Only fair to give the site a chance to settle down and for the club/website people to gather feedback so they can modify it but dare I say it when you look at the Joey Barton website it looks a lot more professional and well thought out.

1 They said it'll be 'unique' - hopefully, that means somewhat better, new in terms of design and content. It looks like a Facebook page.
My point is, don't speak sh*t about it, don't make teaser comments, don't raise expectations if you're going to underperform... Just shut up and put up the new site - announce 'here it is' and go to work. But hey, that's classic Ian Taylor, I'm getting used to it...

2 It's OK. It's a site that has to be there, so it's there. People will mainly visit it to get the info they really can't get on soccernet or soccerway - like ticketing and online store. The site is 'so 90s', but I don't expect anything more from Fernandez and his 'media guru' team - they like the logo, they love the lotto designs, they think this kind of site is fine...they just don't care about the aesthetics. I accept that.

That is quite ridiculous, especially as it does the same with Hogan and Anton's photos as well! There will always be a few things needing changing when a site goes 'live' for the first time, it seems in this case the idea to roll the story headline photos across the front page simply needs changing with a separate photo for each, the front page photo allowing for the top banner. No big deal! :)

I think it's a massive improvement on the old one which had a far more cramped style and thus crowded the page with information and adverts, whereas this one looks a lot more streamlined whilst maintaining a basic user experience that anyone, any age, any country will be able to use.

I think that the PR department are certainly upping their game in line with the rest of the club, their coverage of the Asia tour was excellent and hopefully further improvements and changes will apply to other areas of the PR department to bring it up to standard and less amateurish in execution.

Hopefully the program will remain as good as it was last season as well.

Give the new website a couple of weeks and it looks like it will be a massive improvement. :D

To be fair those pictures were used on the old site for the articles so I would guess in future they will choose more suitable pictures.
