The Olympics (One) Thread: Olympics Flame Carrying
« Thread Started on Jul 8, 2012, 10:39am »

I believe we're going to be having a one thread on the Olympics. For those interested. (Maybe we'll have a second one just on the football. Whatever people want)

From his tweet, Mr. Fernandes carried the Flame this morning.

Today's route

And what happened earlier :o :D

MAIL: Olympic flame extinguished as torch is carried on white water rafting boat

"...With the benefit of hindsight, it's astounding that no one saw this coming. As the Olympic torch splashed through the canoe slalom venue in Hertfordshire today on board a raft as part of its journey around the country, spraying water splashed out the famed Eternal Flame.

Day 50 proved a tricky one for the torch relay, after a crash between two motorcycles earlier forced a delay and celebrity chef Jamie Oliver’s turn carrying the flame was marred by pouring rain.

In the first setback for the day, the torch convoy was held up for 20 minutes after two motorbike riders collided near Chelmsford, Essex, at around 7.40am, and had to be rushed to hospital with suspected broken bones.

yeah due to that accident on the A414 they had me waiting an extra 30 minutes in Harlow yesterday , i must admit i didnt realise the amount of police motorbikes that go around with the coaches aswell shutting of roads minutes in advance , must have taken some planning .
Pleased to see it but couldnt be seen on the footage on TV with my QPR top on , think they edited me out [image] [image]

I had a phone call on Thursday from BBC Radio Essex asking me if I would give a commentary on the progress of the torch as it came up the High Street in Maldon to go past my church. I had to be honest with them and say that I could not do it because I have no interest at all in the Olympics and even less in the progress of the Olympic Torch and that I would, instead, be watching some paint dry - much more interesting! I did find them somebody else from the church to do it and although the Churchwarden who took on the job was as disinterested as me, I have to say she did a good job and on air sounded more enthusiastic than she really was. Even our Vicar declined for the same reasons I did.

I am pretty well known at BBC Essex, having been on programmes several times over the years which is probably why they asked me.
