Actually I think you will find that it is officially GB & NI, at least for all other sports. Perhaps I am in the minority but I wouldn't have included Beckham, Giggs or Bellamy. The object of the exercise is to try to win it. None of those three would be played by their clubs in more than one game per week so how they will manage to play in a congested tournament is beyond me. Rather than select old players who won't have anything to offer in the future, the over age spots should have all gone to improving players that are slightly above the age limit. Too right Terry, they do however call it Team GB, which irritates me somewhat having some norn iro connections. Must agree that all these debates would have been totally unnecassary if it was simply an under 23 team, no over age players, whatsoever. To incled two Welshmen to try and boost attendances makes no sense if you do not incled the most popular English footballer on the planet. Don't rate Pearce anyway, pony manager!

Like all aspects of the olympics I'm afraid that politics is the major consideration.
The FA have been bending over backwards to try to appease the other three associations & the end result will probably be another disaster!
I'm glad he is not included but Jamie Mackie would have been a better bet than Giggs or Bellamy. If they are playing (and I still havn't seen the full squad named) it will be interesting to see how Walker & Bale perform at this level. Judging on past olympics the level is high & this is the launch pad for the really top class international players.

Must agree again Terry, why do we know who the three over age players are?
Simply announce the squad, just like Woy did.
More evidence of a piss poor manager in my opinion.

Stuart Pearce - Who? as said pony manager. Results as a coach are so so. Was a dirty - errr hard player and sincve his involvment in the England set up at various levels his teams have been good at hoofball and physical stuff. Don't worry about skill. It might involve politics but you have to be honest, Giggs and to a lesser extent Bellamy are token gestures. There are better Welsh players around. Why not bring back Ian Rush too??

All the marvelous P.R. work that Becks has done should not get him anywhere near a team selected on merit.Sentiment should not come into it or fan worship. In my opinion David was a very good player but no more, and when he left United, the machine went into overdrive with associated shirt sales etc.Surely if he was that way inclined he would not have left Europe to play in the States. What amazes me is the so-called football experts berating Stuart Pearce for a managerial decision he had to make.I have to admit i do not listen to anything that Gary Lineker(a lightweight if ever their was one)says nowadays but i am amazed at the reaction to this decision. The amount of people who fall for the hype actually worries me. However after all has been and done though Becks should be found a place on the PR side where no doubt he does a first class job and i feel he is most effective and will be in future causes ie World cups etc.
Cheers,
Jay

I lost interest in most of the Olympics after the 80's. I'll watch Bolt destroy the 100m field as usual and Rebecca Adlington in a swimming cozzy is worth viewing time, but not really arsed about the rest of it.
Roll on new Premier League season!
