More re Cesar

Independent/PA

QPR in talks with Inter Milan goalkeeper Julio Cesar

Simon Peach

QPR are in talks to sign Inter Milan goalkeeper Julio Cesar, Press Association Sport understands.

The Brazil international was a key part of the Italian side's Champions League win two years ago but now looks set to leave the San Siro.

Samir Handanovic arrived from Udinese this summer and Cesar has been allowed to speak to other clubs about a move.

Tottenham have been heavily linked with the 32-year-old but it is understood that QPR are in talks with the Inter goalkeeper.

The west Londoners' technical director Mike Rigg is speaking with Cesar's representatives to see whether a move to Loftus Road can be pushed through.

The news comes just days after summer signing Rob Green's blunder set Swansea on course for a surprise 5-0 victory at QPR.

The defeat also saw manager Mark Hughes step up his search for defensive reinforcements, and talks with Tottenham club captain Michael Dawson and Real Madrid's Ricardo Carvalho are understood to be ongoing.

Both Manchester Clubs still interested, shite >:(

Awaiting Kurt response: St. Etienne expect QPR bid for defensive starlet

But both Manchester clubs are still interested in the 17-year-old central defender according to French paper L'Equipe

Green Park Ranger? Saint-Etienne defender Kurt Zouma (right) in action against Toulouse
Talented young centre-back Kurt Zouma could make a shock move to QPR if they miss out on Tottenham defender Michael Dawson.

Mark Hughes' move for Dawson has hit a snag over the former Nottingham Forest man's personal terms, with him said to prefer a move elsewhere if he is unwanted at White Hart Lane. Sunderland and Stoke City are ready to pounce for the England defender, and if the Hoops were to miss out on Dawson then St. Etienne are said to be expecting a bid for their teenage prodigy.

According to French sports paper L'Equipe, the French club have invited the West Londoners to make their interest concrete with a bid - expected to be between 12 and 15 million Euros - only for the Loftus Road side to ask for a small 'delay for reflection'.

QPR are understood to favour the signing of a more experienced defender, hence their chase for Ricardo Carvalho as well as Dawson, but the prospect of such a coup in the shape of Zouma could be too good an opportunity for Mark Hughes to miss.

Norwich will be looking at all our activity this week and be rightly thinking "get at erm" they "QPR" are lacking confidence and faith at the heart of there defence.

Fat boy will destroy Ferdinand and a Hill combination. We need Nelson to start and install confidence , if we concede early then I can not see us coming back and any potential signings next week will be demanding more because we will be more desperate.

Oh the joys of being a QPR supporter .

Stoke local radio are saying that Stoke are now having discussions with Dawson and confirmed that Shawcross has been approached by us. Lisening to the fans calling the radio station they are not impressed as Shawcross is a local hero.

I'd have Shawcross over Dawson without a doubt. But them two as a pairing would be boarderline world class.

I defo want one or the other, or even both!

Zouma is too young to be wasting our time at the moment, let him go somewhere else!!!

Get Carvalho sorted ad someone to play alongside him. We've said all along that two decent centre halfs were needed. just grt on with it!!!

Why is every move in the market immediately in the press? Someone tweet Fernandes and ask him to close the leak, it's becoming silly now!!!!!

TalkSPORT's Queens Park Rangers expert Tony Vincenzo has backed the club's move for Michael Dawson but warned against signing Ricardo Carvalho, claiming the Real Madrid defender is way past his best.

Doesn't take an 'expert' to realise that Carvalho is past his best. He will still be reasonably decent and on a loan, he's worth having round.

The same Queen's Park Rangers expert Terry Cinzano who has recently stated that this site is an excellent place to resource all things QPR. :) ;)

Panic buying of the highest order.

Just get a decent young, non injury prone CB and be done with it. Carvalho is 34 years old, what will he offer us? I'd rather we give Ehmer a go.

Must say, Hughes transfer policy is leaving me somewhat nonplussed at the moment. Every QPR fans message board on the planet knew GK and CB were the 2 most vital areas that needed strengthening in our team during the off season so whyleave it this late to get a CB?

2 seasons ago Ricky played 33 games for RM and he was still 1st choice last season until a back injury knocked him out for the season. Not surprisingly he's lost his place in his absence and given his age RM don't want to keep him as a backup.

I think he will be our best defender this season if he comes and his know how will be invaluable for a season when we are still at risk of going down.

He's 34 though, Eus.

No pace left. I'd rather have Shawx. At least he has a bit of steel and grit about him. He would have chopped down Routledge and taken the booking rather than allow him to outpace a clearly not match fit Diakité for Swans 3rd (I think).

Experience is great but you need some youth and pace too and 34 year olds do not possess much of either.

Not sure he's more than a 1 year solution but if he keeps us up so what...if playing CB was just about pace we'd play SWP there...he's as quick as John Terry (if not quicker) and his game is more about reading the game.

Lets get him & Dawson and then think about 2013-14 later.

It's imperative - more so than ever because of our spending - that we stay up (Anything else is a bonus). So if a 34 year old defender will help do that...

Barton's Agent Talking

London 24

QPR midfielder likely to make loan move

Thursday, August 23, 2012
3:59 PM

Transfer news: Joey Barton wants to play for Marseille

QPR midfielder Joey Barton is keen on making a move to Marseille according to his agent, Willie McKay.

The midfielder, who is one game into a 12-match ban for his conduct at Manchester City, is set to be loaned out by the R’s and it appears a move to the south of France is likely.

“Joey Barton wants to play for OM next season,” McKay told RMC.

“We’re in negotiations, but nothing is finished at the moment.

“I don’t want to make any more comments on the negotiations out of respect to Jose Anigo [Marseille sporting director] and Vincent Labrune [Marseille president].”

We're talk sports main topic of conversation tonight. The whole world appears to be questioning QPR's activity in the transfer market. I've said on another thread about the sense of planning short term to ensure premiership survival and laying the foundations for the future i.e scouting network, training facilites even a new stadium but like a few fellow R's fans I have the jitters too !! Compared to gate receipts the wage bill must be ridiculously out of sync . . . . tick tock tick tock tick tock ( the sound of a time bomb )
