Leigertwood recalls epic celebrations Posted on: Thu 19 Apr 2012 Mikele Leigertwood has gone down in Reading folklore after becoming the first man to score a goal that sent us into the Premier League.
Although we have of course been promoted once before, Kevin Doyle's goal at Leicester in 2006 was actually irrelevant on the day, but this Tuesday night Leigertwood turned home a strike that was arguably the most important single goal in 141 years of Reading Football Club.
There was no man more fitting to score that goal, such a popular figure in the dressing room and in the stands at Madejski Stadium.
The celebrations at full time were absolutely amazing as Leigertwood was carried high above thousands of supporters back to the dressing room, cementing his heroic status at Reading for the rest of his life.
He said, "To be honest, at the time I didn't know [if we'd won promotion] I just saw everyone running towards me! It was a crazy, crazy situation, I got picked up in the air, I got thrown about, I had people trying to take my boots off me! It was amazing!
"I'm so happy to be part of this. We've worked hard and it's been a fantastic effort for everyone, the fans have been great all season and we've deserved it - we're going to enjoy it.
"To go up automatically means so much. I've enjoyed my time since I came here on loan a year ago. I'm so happy to be a part of it. I've been up once before in the play-offs but this is much sweeter, I love it!
"Obviously I was delighted to score. There wasn't long to go, we've had a fantastic record when we go a goal up and have to keep a lead.
"The clearance off the line by Pearcey was unbelievable as well. Our hearts were in our mouths late on but I'm just delighted.
"It's lovely just to make so many people happy, for myself, my family, my teammates, the staff and all the fans - they've been first class."
You can see Mikele being carried high above the crowd on our online TV station Reading FC Player right now, and we've also got a special video of his goal raw and uncut. There are new features being added all the time and there's never been a better time to sign up!

I'm pleased for Leigertwood. he got a bit of stick from some fans when he was with us. So good for him. But hasnyone else ever noticed how often players who have done good elsewhere have come to us and been poor. Are we the kiss of death?
