Didn't read all the thread. But this post sums it up nicely for me.

"I can't believe the game has got itself in a position where it's legal to have a wrestling match in the box at corners and free-kicks, yet a hand on a shirt in free play results in a penalty! "

Alex Ferguson should have come down for the appeal and testified on behalf of Derry

As long as the appeals system is effectively run by the referees bosses (the FA), these crazy sorts of appeal decisions will occur. There needs to be an independent assessment for appeals and those who fall over with minimal contact should be held to account as well.

Proves once and for all the FA is a joke. On the same day that the FA dismiss our appeal they charge Ivanovic with violent conduct for an incident the referee didn't see.

Good job Hill's 'unseen' goal wasn't headed in across the line violently. Could've gotten charged or a points deduction. Oh, we did in a way, the FAcups didn't have to do anything. Agreed they are a joke. Right then, next up Swansea...

So the silly season continues. The FA uphold Derry's little tap on the off-side cheating diver Young, yet exonerate Balotelli's studded challenge on Alex Song. Laughable, but come on this is the FA.

What makes a mockery of it is that the FA are the same people who like to promote the idea of fair play. By condoning Young's dive - and it was a blatant dive - they are giving the go ahead for players to con the refs, as had been going on for many seasons now, without fear of repercussions. That doesn't seem very fair or sporting to me.

The game is run by money and that's what the FA care about.

See, I was trying to be the voice of common sense but now they have not punished Balotelli because there was an R in the month, there is one way or another, a bias in favour of the clubs that bring in the most money.
Let's see if they allow Liverpool an emergency loan of a goalkeeper (they are a bit short at the moment), when we were denied one last season.

TALKSPORT

Exclusive - Bean blasts FA over 'ridiculous' Derry decision

By Alex Varney | Wednesday, April 11, 2012

Graham Bean has blasted the Football Association’s “ridiculous decision” to uphold Shaun Derry’s red card against Manchester United.

The former FA compliance officer now defends clubs and players against disciplinary charges and represented Derry in his bid to get the sending off during his side’s 2-0 defeat at Old Trafford overturned.
The QPR midfielder appeared to make minimal contact with United winger Ashley Young, who was also in an offside position, but that did not stop the FA from ruling his one-match ban must stand.
In my time working in football I’ve seen some weird and wonderful decisions by the FA and this is up there among the top three or four
— Graham Bean
And that has angered Bean, who told talkSPORT: “It’s about time the FA comes out and gives explanations as to why they reach these ridiculous decisions.
“We gave the FA a get out of jail card yesterday because we based the appeal on two fronts. First of all the sending off was wrong but, secondly, within the FA’s rules there is an opportunity for them where there are exceptional circumstances to say that the penalty was excessive.
“What we said to them was that, even if you think the decision to send him off was right, given the circumstances, ie this was an offside goal, then these are exceptional circumstances. So, the FA could have still backed the referee by claiming the decision was right but saying, ‘yeah, we recognize there are exceptional circumstances and therefore the ban hasn’t got to be imposed’. Yet they even failed to do that.
“In my time working in football I’ve seen some weird and wonderful decisions by the FA and this is up there among the top three or four of them. I think it is a travesty they reached this decision."

The diving debate has rumbled on for some time now fueled by obvious travesties of justice and unfortunately we have been at the rough end of some of those decisions this season contributing maybe to an untimely exit from the PL. Besides the clubs of the wronged players and the supporters from those clubs various people have contributed widely to the debate expressing their view in support of goal line technology and in some quarters promoting their belief that 'diving' players should be punished on the field or retrospectively if the referee missed the incident. One of the supporters of retrospective punishment is Clarke Carlisle, the PFA chairman and here is a headline from the BBC on 5th April:

BBC Sport - PFA chairman Clarke Carlisle calls for 'zero tolerance ...
www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/176327785 Apr 2012 – Professional Footballers' Association chairman Clarke Carlisle has called for a "zero tolerance" approach to rid the game of divers.

This is Fergusons comment on Ashley Young after being kissed by Shaun Derry and Ciaran Clarke:

SIR ALEX FERGUSON warned Ashley Young he is in danger of gaining a reputation as a ‘diver’ after Manchester United were caught up in another cheat storm yesterday.
Young produced a blatant dive to win a penalty against Aston Villa – a week after a similar incident against QPR.

Today our champion at the PFA Clarke Carlisle, said this:

Young is not in any danger of gaining that reputation - he already has it. Only Fergie and he don't realise it yet.

Play nice, he left us to get away from the temptation and subsequently played at Watford, Leeds and Burnley - enough to make a man want to start drinking!

Just did a 'Wiki' on CC and this is the first sentence of the entry. Read it carefully.
