Sunderland fan sues club after being hit by stray Djibril Cissé shot
• Supporter knocked out by shot while watching training session
• 'I think it was one of Djibril Cissé's misses,' says Quinn A Sunderland fan is suing his club after being knocked out by a stray Djibril Cissé shot while watching a training session. Sunderland's chairman, Niall Quinn, revealed the legal action had started while appearing on a BBC radio phone-in. Quinn was asked by a caller on BBC Newcastle's Total Sport programme whether the club would allow fans to watch the team train, which had been allowed previously. Quinn replied: "We had a supporter who got a bad injury. I think it was one of Djibril Cisse's misses where he had a shot from 20 yards. "I'm making fun of it now, but it knocked a supporter out. It was quite serious. That supporter is in the process of suing us right now." The show's presenter, Simon Pryde, expressed his surprise that legal action was being taken. "It was one of those things," said Quinn. Sunderland declined to comment when asked for more details. Cissé, now registered at Panathinaikos, played for Sunderland 38 times in the 2008-09 season, scoring 11 times, while on loan from Marseille www.guardian.co.uk/football/2011/apr/07/sunderland-fan-sues-club

Good grief, I would have settled for a ball autographed by all the players. Some fans just cannot be satisfied I guess.

dont know the facts but if was a bit of concussion then seems a bit extreme to me, but if more serious then i suppose he has a case, but if its the former then he should be told to go to newcastle.

So let me think this through - you attend a training practice session, you decide to stand behind the net and you are not prepared for what may result when players practice their shooting from all angles and distances - not to mention trying out other new tricks?
Am I on the right track so far? If so, and that being the case, why should your lack of responsibility now become the problem of the club that you are supposed to support? Or is the UK on fast track to copy what happens in the US with their lawsuits over hot coffee?
This is just plain daft and stupid - but I then fear for the UK if this fan actually does manage to take his case to court and, even worse, if he actaully wins.
