Former Crows star earns trial at QPR Tuesday, 11 January, 2011
Craig Hammond to have week-long trial at Championship leaders
FORMER Crows hitman Craig Hammond has earned a week-long trial at Championship leaders QPR.
Hammond, 23, has notched 22 goals for Zamaretto Premier Division side Cambridge City so far this season and scouts from the London club have been suitably impressed with his form in recent matches.
As well as training with Neil Warnock’s side, he will also feature in a reserve team fixture.
Hammond will be determined to grab the opportunity with both hands after struggling to make an impact at Conference side Histon following his move from Royston Town in 2009.
However, his form for the Lilywhites this season has been excellent and his manager Gary Roberts believes he has made great strides in recent months and fully deserves this opportunity

Update: Ex-QPR Trialist, Craig Hammond signs new Cambridge City dealCambridge News Roberts joy as 'major asset' Craig signsCraig Hammond has given Cambridge City a timely boost by signing a contract extension keeping him at the club until the end of next season. The striker has scored 30 goals in all competitions so far this season and has been a huge part of the Lilywhites’ Zamaretto League Premier Division title challenge. Boss Gary Roberts is delighted to have secured his services for another campaign and believes the former Royston Town and Histon striker is coming close to rediscovering his best form. "Craig is starting to show his pre-Christmas form, which is good news," he said. "He’s been scoring goals still, but he’s not been as effective. We want him to be like he was before Christmas, when he was a real leader of the line for us." Hammond had a trial with Championship leaders QPR earlier in the year and with the added interest in his star frontman, Roberts was keen to get a new deal thrashed out. He added: "I’m really pleased he’s signed for next year. It was a good business for all of us. "Craig was keen to sign an extension and it’s good for us because you don’t want people taking your major assets away for nothing." www.cambridge-news.co.uk/Sport/Roberts-joy-as-major-asset-Craig-signs.htm
