Obviously I must have missed what precipitated this PFA Statement
PFA Statement
PFA stance on homophobia has not changed
We are committed to our mission statement of zero tolerance to all forms of bigotry
By Simone Pound July 14, 2010
The PFA wishes to announce that Chief Executive Gordon Taylor did not ‘withdraw support’ for the FA's homophobia film.
He was one of the only CEO's in the game prepared to talk about the issue of homophobia in football on Gaby Logan’s Radio 5 Live phone-in and is always committed to challenging discrimination in all forms.
As a union we are fully aware of the importance of tackling homophobic chanting on the terraces and challenging homophobic attitudes and behaviour across the football industry.
We are committed to our mission statement of zero tolerance to all forms of bigotry including homophobia and we welcome the opportunity to lead the field in this area, as we have done with racism.
Currently we do not have any members of the PFA who have openly declared they are gay. If a player approached us regarding this matter there are support mechanisms in place to ensure the player has the full support of the Association.
Equality and the fight against all forms of discrimination is ingrained in the fabric of the organisation and we remain committed to this cause.
The PFA has implemented a Diversity Awareness training course for young players that includes addressing inappropriate language, behaviour and attitudes on all equality strands and includes a section around homophobia.
We consider Education to be a key component of all our work and in particular on this issue.
