Last chance salon? www.football.virginmedia.com/page/Plymouth/NewsDetail/0,,12555~2085207,00.html Blades secure Walton deal 06 Jul 2010 Sheffield United have completed the signing of Plymouth midfielder Simon Walton on a season-long loan. The 22-year-old former Leeds prodigy, who made his debut at Elland Road aged 16, is the Blades' fifth summer signing following the arrival of Leon Britton, Johnny Ertl, Daniel Bogdanovic and Steve Simonsen. Blackwell, who worked with Walton during his time in charge at Leeds, said: "Obviously I had him at Elland Road, but he does seem to have lost his way a little bit. "He and Aaron Lennon were going to be the next big thing in English football and I've brought him here to try and help him catch up a bit. "His arrival helps us put together a squad we can work with because he can play midfield or in defence. Last season we often got caught out when injuries occurred and we had to use far too many loans." Plymouth have a potential recall clause in January if they receive an offer for the player, but United have an option to match any bid.

Injury blow for Walton Young defender likely to miss season with knee injuryLast updated: 13th July 2010 New signing Simon Walton's career with Sheffield United has stalled before the new season has even begun. The 22-year-old, who arrived at Bramall Lane from Plymouth on a season-long loan earlier this month, has sustained cruciate knee ligament damage and is unlikely to play at all in the coming campaign. Blades manager Kevin Blackwell admits the injury, which Walton sustained during Saturday's friendly against Mansfield, is disappointing for the young midfielder. "It is a tragedy for the lad because he was going to give this chance his best shot," Blackwell told the Blades' official website. "He won't play for us now because his loan will be up by the time he recovers. We are now talking to Plymouth about where Simon will do his rehab." www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11095_6259349,00.html

BBC Sheffield United to pick up Simon Walton's wages Sheffield United have confirmed they will pay the wages of injured midfielder Simon Walton who is on a season-long loan from Plymouth Argyle. The 22-year-old, who only moved to Bramall Lane last week, suffered a cruciate knee ligament injury during a friendly against Mansfield. Blades boss Kevin Blackwell said: "It's a massive blow to the lad, missing a whole campaign. "He is contracted to us for this season so we are responsible for his wages." "Right now the important issue is to sort out details of his rehabilitation," he continued. Although Walton will not play for United this term, the Yorkshire side have said they may consider renewing their interest after he recovers from injury. Blackwell told the club website: "We have spoken to him although at the moment there is no consoling him, but he is young enough to come back from and and we won't dismiss him." news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/teams/s/sheff_utd/8829245.stm
