MACRON GOLDEN GLOVE WINNERS ANNOUNCED
Posted on: 03.06.2010
The top shot-stoppers from all three divisions of The Football League are to receive Macron Golden Glove Awards to mark their respective achievements in all competitions this season.
The winner of the Golden Glove for the Championship is Swansea City stopper, Dorus De Vries who kept a total of 25 clean sheets in 48 appearances for the Swans this campaign - five more than his closest rivals, Steve Harper and Lee Camp of Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest respectively.
In League 1, the accolade goes to Norwich City's Fraser Forster for 22 shut outs in 39 appearances - four ahead of runner-up David Forde (Millwall). The performances of the Newcastle United loanee were a crucial factor in helping the Canaries secure promotion to the Championship this term.
With 24 clean sheets in 48 appearances, Kasper Schmeichel of Notts County clinches the League 2 award. The Dane's tally - six more than second placed Shwan Jalal of AFC Bournemouth - was again vital in guiding the Magpies towards promotion as champions of League 2.
In announcing the Macron Golden Glove Award winners, Greg Clarke, Chairman of The Football League, said:
"The Golden Glove Award gives The League the chance to recognise the vital contribution that goalkeepers make every single week. Their efforts influence the overall success of the team and each of these winners has had an outstanding season and fully deserves this recognition."
Andrea Palilla, Area Manager for Macron, added: "We are delighted to present these awards to Dorus, Fraser and Kasper. Each of them has made a significant contribution to their respective teams' success and are worthy recipients of these accolades."
Clean sheets in The Coca-Cola Football League, Carling Cup, Johnstone's Paint Trophy and FA Cup sponsored by E.ON have all counted towards the Macron Golden Glove awards.
