QPR plan £1.5million raid for West Brom strike ace Neil Warnock has launched an ambitious £1.5million bid to land West Brom striker Roman Bednar. QPR boss Warnock wants the Czech hitman to spearhead his Championship promotion challenge next season. Bednar, 27, scored 11 goals to help guide Albion back to the Premier League and Warnock is preparing an audacious offer to bring him to Loftus Road. QPR are also closing in on a deal for Crystal Palace winger Darren Ambrose and are set to offer Bristol City £500,000 for defender Bradley Orr. www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/news/Transfer-news-QPR-plan-1-5million-raid-for-West-Brom-strike-ace-Roman-Bednar-article443629.html

Now that would be a proper signing, big target man who can bring the ball down and others into play!

Maybe not. But you get the feeling that Warnock knows what he's doing. He wants certain type of player for certain position. Not what we've had in the past with Briatore or Paladini just signing.
One of the more striking things (if can use word "Striking" re QPR): We were told by Pete last year that would NOT be using loans last season. And we ended up having more than ever.
Now I presume Pete was simply repeating what he was told by THAT MAN....So the fact that we had all those loans (and they weren't "Emergency Loans") showed just a total lack of any deep QPR Planning.

I don't see why signing Bednar is unrealistic.
He won't be first choice at WBA but would be so with us.
If we can offer him parity in wages than chances are on appearence bonuses and goal bonuses he will earn more at ours and that might be more enticing to him as a footballer has a limited amount of time to maximise his earnings and therefore in the bigger picture it would benefit him more to come to QPR.
He fits in with the no-nonsense, straight up professional that Warnock seems to be favouring in the transfer market, his goals total is not that impressive from last season but I don't know how many games he started though.
It seems like we are actually progressing in the transfer market quite steadily and purchases like this give me more hope for stability and a higher level of consistancy, so in all I'm happy with the signings so far, Clarke being the exception as it's an expensive gamble in wages, but so far: In Warnock (only) I trust.

Birmingham Mail
West Brom News West Brom put finishing touches to bid for Pablo Ibanez Jun 2 2010 By Bill Howell ALBION were last night putting the final pieces of paperwork together in a bid to unveil Spanish centre-back Pablo Ibanez as their first proper summer signing. And club sources have dismissed as incorrect reports that they had received a bid from Queens Park Rangers for Roman Bednar, with the striker in any case central to Roberto Di Matteo’s plans next season.Pablo’s free transfer from Atletico Madrid should be finalised some time today. It marks a cute piece of business by the club and follows the snapping up of Ireland international Steven Reid and Romanian international Gabriel Tamas on long term contracts. Pablo’s arrival will push Abdoulaye Meite – who lost his World Cup spot yesterday – further down the pecking order with Jonas Olsson and Tamas firmly in possession of first team slots. The 28-year-old defender joined Atletico in 2004 from home town club Albacete but was only a bit-part player last term, making just four La Liga starts. Indeed, his move to Albion marks something of a fresh start for a player who has been heavily criticised in sections of the Spanish media for a series of blunders which saw him pushed on to the fringes. Nevertheless, he arrives with a wealth of experience in the Champions League and 20 international caps since making his Spain debut in November 2004 against England. He was the first-choice centre back at the 2006 World Cup alongside Barcelona’s Carles Puyol. Elsewhere, QPR boss Neil Warnock will get little joy out of Albion if he decides to progress his interest in Bednar.
The 27-year-old Czech Republic international has one year remaining on his contract but the club also hold a one-year option.
Recently Bednar told the Birmingham Mail of his wishes to sign a new contract.
“I still have one year and a one-year option. Hopefully the gaffer will want me for next season. We will see,” he said. www.birminghammail.net/birmingham-sport/west-bromwich-albion-fc/west-bromwich-albion-fc-news/2010/06/02/west-brom-put-finishing-touches-to-bid-for-pablo-ibanez-97319-26569908/
