from the beeb (unfortunately no fitz hall)
England coach Fabio Capello has made several surprise selections in his preliminary 30-man World Cup squad.
Uncapped duo Adam Johnson of Manchester City and Tottenham's Michael Dawson are in, along with Spurs' Tom Huddlestone.
Jamie Carragher has come out of international retirement to join fellow defender Ledley King, while the injured Gareth Barry is also included.
Scott Parker, Stephen Warnock and Darren Bent are in, with the final 23-man squad to be announced by 1 June.

Whatever happened to Capello's 'I will only pick fit and in-form players' Ferdinand-missed most of the season through injury King - play a game, miss a game etc etc Upson - struggled in a poor West Ham side Barry - injured, unlikely to be fit for start Carrick - been on bench quite a few times this season J.Cole - doesnt play too often Gerrard - woefully out of form all season Huddlestone - donkey of a player. If he is an international then i think i could play at least championship level... Lennon, Walcott, SWP - all pace, no end product Defoe - out of form last part of season Dont get your hopes up with that squad going to SA...not a hope in hells chance of winning. My guess, Quarters at most if we are lucky

Was half expecting the same depressing nonsense from last time when Theo "I can run fast" Walcott was chosen instead of Darren Bent. Glad to see common sense prevailed this time, although I bet 25 goal striker Darren Bent doesnt make the final cut, laughable stuff.

End of the day we are just not good enough Not good enough, not intelligent enough to execute a Capello tactical gameplan in the final stages of a tournament, & above all else, the fact that these people all earn far too much money to have the mentality of a winner, this lot just dont care! why would they ? 2nd Round or Quarter Finals, basically the first time we come up against a technical opponent. Same sh!t, different year, difference this time is that I'm a lot less interested than last time.

Adam Johnson & Ledley King excite me about this squad, Darren Bent if he gets the nod, you need to have substitutes like this in a World Cup squad.

Agree about Johnson, quality player. King is a very good defender but im guessing he will have to cut down on the nr of CB's there so if you take King & Ferdinand im sure you will lose both of them at some stage. Both plagued by injuries and cant see them lasting the pace. I know Capello like Heskey, im sure he will start every game, but i would of much preferred Kevin Davies. Can link play, hold the ball and scores a few goals as well.

Its a disgrace that the likes of Kevin Davies, Matty Taylor & Kevin Nolan have never gained a solitary England cap, its not fashionable, but most if not all of these players have put in match winning performances in the Premiership week after week. Kevin Davies is bad enough, but Matty Taylor has one of the best left foots in The Premiership yet still the England call has never come, literally unbelievable!

I don't see any surprises in that thirty.
It's the twenty three that counts more and who he discards.

The opposition will be scared of this squad....scared that they wont collect all the points when they should. 1/4 finalists if they are lucky.
