Sousa speculation ends as Sporting appoint new coachApr 20 2010 SPORTING Lisbon have appointed a new coach - ending speculation linking Paulo Sousa with a move back to Portugal. Sousa had been touted as a possible replacement for the departing Carlos Carvalhal, but the club today announced the appointment of Vitoria Guimaraes boss Paulo Sergio. The 42-year-old has landed the top job at the Alvalade after impressing at a series of more modest Portuguese clubs in recent years. The coach managed Olhanense (2003-06), Santa Clara (2006-08), Beira-Mar (2007-2008) and Pacos de Ferreira (2008-2010), before being given his first high-profile job earlier this season when a struggling Vitoria Guimaraes contracted him to take over from the sacked Nelo Vingada. Sergio had a positive impact on the northern club. Vitoria Guimaraes are currently in fifth place and have a good chance of qualifying for Europe next season. Sousa played for Sporting under the late Bobby Robson in the nineties, and the 39-year-old has openly admitted he has ambitions to manage at a higher level. www.walesonline.co.uk/footballnation/swansea-city-fc/2010/04/20/sousa-speculation-ends-as-sporting-appoint-new-coach-91466-26278825/

Swansea Evening Post Job rumours don't spoil Sousa's focus Friday, April 23, 2010, 09:00Comment on this story PAULO Sousa has batted away fresh speculation linking him with a move away from Swansea City. Sousa was thought to be a contender for the Sporting Lisbon manager's job until that went to Paulo Sergio earlier this week. And he is now being touted as a potential target for Hull City. The Tigers, who are in serious danger of relegation from the Premier League, ousted Phil Brown in March and brought in Iain Dowie on a short-term deal until the end of the season. But Dowie has admitted to having concerns over his future as Hull struggle to avoid the drop, and Sousa is being mentioned as a potential candidate to take over at the KC Stadium. But the Swansea manager said: "It's nice and easy to respond to these questions. "I am very focused on the game we have against Sheffield United tomorrow, just like my players are. "The fans can't be worried. They can be proud and confident that we will do what we can to win this game." Sousa has made no secret of his desire to manage at the highest level since taking over at Swansea last summer. He was linked with Burnley earlier in the season and then, as now, he did not dismiss the idea of leaving altogether.
