A couple of his final games for QPR - shortly before his (final) transfer from QPR to Crystal Palace
|
"..I also find it insulting that qpr-reports site are asking so many questions. They seem to want to know everything that goes on at the club..." |

Well done Gramps and thanks for taking the time to pass it on to the rest of us, a most enjoyable read and an eye opener
Personally I'm astounded that Mark gets treated better by Palace than by us - thats shamefull and embaressing as an R
We (the club that is) have to acknowledge the part the ex players have played in our history, especially with the expected growth of the clubs fanbase. Surely it's players like Mark and Macca that represent the spirit of our club ? With all the billions floating around in the game these days, I would have thought that any costs incurred in regularly celebrating our ex players would be a drop in the ocean ?
My lad is eight and a regular now with me now - wouldn't it be better for him to be learning about the ex players by seeing them in the flesh at LR than watching YouTube clips or only seeing Gerry Francis cos he happened to be on the Stoke coach ?
sorry grumpy rant over thanks again Gramps

Wonderful Gramps. I loved every word of that. Just touching on a subject you have raised before and Mac bought up as question 14. Didn't you write to the club to ask what facilities they had in place or were proposing regarding 'care' (I know thats not the right word) of previous players. Mark held up Crystal Palace as a good example and really, Rangers as a bad example. I am hopeful that our new regime have a more benign outlook as far as ex players are concerned but have certainly had some fire fighting to do since their arrival so may not have had time or will to address that area just yet. Ever hopeful.

Yes, just put something about that in "How to honour Alan McDonald thread". In a few words, I didn't even receive an acknowledgement of my letter to Beard.

Amazing how 90 minutes of that team on a Satuday, could make one's whole weekend complete - usually, anyway.

Just spent a nostalgic couple of hours watching the '67 League Cup Final DVD. Never cease to enjoy it and never cease to get all 'teared up'. Oh, what happy days they were.

Fantastic effort gramps by getting everyones questions answered and putting everything down on here. You have put a lot of time and effort into this.
I'm glad that he gave a good answer to my question with lots of good points about todays game and why it is not so good.

What a riveting and thoroughly absorbing read. I can’t thank you enough for taking the time to type all that out.
The incredible characters in this club’s history are one of the major factors in making QPR unique, Gramps, you have given us a great insight into one of these. Fantastic job, thank you.

Froggy and Roller. My pleasure, as always. It is good to be able to go along for a chat with Mark from time to time. Not promising to ask loads of questions every time though as that would probably strain our friendship!
