Youth Cup ticket news Ticket prices for the FA Youth Cup game with Queen's Park Rangers have been announced 07.01.2010 Tickets details for the FA Youth Cup game with Queens Park Rangers on Tuesday 19 January have been confirmed. Adult tickets will cost 3 and juniors 1, with all tickets being sold from the cash turnstiles on the night of the match. Entrance to the Boleyn Ground will be through the West Stand lower only. The Hammers won through to the last-32 for the first time since 2006 by beating Plymouth Argyle 1-0 after extra time last month. Republic of Ireland Under-17 forward Danny Purdy emerged from the substitutes' bench to fire home the vital goal after 104 minutes. Under-18 captain Jordan Brown is determined to build on the strong showing in the third round on what will be the first outing at the Boleyn Ground for most of the youngsters. "Beating Plymouth was a big confidence boost. For the last two seasons we have gone out in the first round so everyone was up for it. You could tell from the celebrations in the changing rooms afterwards that everyone was buzzing," he said. "I didn't mind who we got in the next round but I'm glad we got a home tie." West Ham have won the FA Youth Cup three times since its inception in 1953, lifting the trophy in 1963, 1981 and 1999, when the Hammers secured a record 9-0 aggregative victory over Coventry City in the final. QPR, who have never reached the final of the competition, reached the fourth round courtesy of a 3-1 home victory over Southampton on Tuesday 8 December. The match will kick-off at 7pm with cash turnstiles opening an hour before kick-off. Fans are advised to arrive in plenty of time to get tickets before the start of the game. www.whufc.com/articles/youth-cup-ticket-news-20100107_2236884_1925843

West Ham Official SiteU18s ready for QPR West Ham United's youngsters are feeling good ahead of Tuesday's FA Youth Cup fourth-round tie 19.01.2010 West Ham United's U18 players cannot wait to take on Queens Park Rangers in the FA Youth Cup fourth round. The Hammers' youngsters host the R's at the Boleyn Ground on Tuesday, having trained at the stadium on Monday morning. Tony Carr's side go into the game in good form, having lost just two of their last eleven matches in all competitions, and on the back of a 3-1 FA Premier Academy League victory over Fulham on Saturday. Four of the squad - midfielder Nicky Barrett and forwards Cristian Montanoand Robert Hall and defender Callum McNaughton - spoke of their confidence ahead of one the biggest games of their young careers so far. "It's been good over the last few weeks," said Barrett. "We've been training well and had a good game on Saturday, so I think we should win on Tuesday. We've got a good chance. They'll come and try and play their football, too." Montano, who locked horns with Arsenal's Sol Campbell at reserve-team level a week ago, said team spirit was high going into Tuesday's match. "We're confident," said the Colombia-born forward. "It's a team thing. We've kept together and we're up for the game, which has helped us. Tony Carr has helped us, as well, as he's encouraged us and told us we can do well. "We don't really get the chance to play at the Boleyn Ground every game. It's more a once a year thing, so if we stay in the FA Youth Cup, we get another chance. Everyone is buzzing about it." Still only 16, Hall has already turned out for England at U17 level this season. The prolific forward has scored five goals in eight games for Carr's team this term, and is looking forward to showing what he can do against QPR. "I think club football is more exciting. Obviously pulling on the national shirt is very exciting, but I always get a buzz [when I play for West Ham] and this is where I want to play. This is where our careers will start, so this is our most exciting game of the season. "It's been good recently. The team helps me and my strike partner Cristian and [fellow forward] Danny Purdy all work together. Whoever scores the goals, we all deserve it." Second-year scholar McNaughton has recently returned from injury and is eager to play his part on Tuesday, with a fifth-round tie at home to Newcastle United the reward for the winners. "The last eleven games, we've only lost two, so we've put in some good performances and everyone is playing well," said the 18-year-old. "There's good confidence in the dressing room. There's a lot of banter and there's no arguments. Everyone is getting along with each other. "Newcastle would be another exciting tie, but we've got to make sure we get this one out of the way first. Another home game would be very exciting." Tickets for the game will cost £3 for adults and £1 for children, while whufc.com will have free live commentary of the game. Bad luck to QPR Elsewhere: Arsenal 0 Ipswich 2 www.thefa.com/TheFACup/FACompetitions/TheFAYouthCup/NewsAndFeatures/2010/ArsenalIpswich4RP0910.aspxConnor Wickham-inspired Ipswich stun Youth Cup holders. Arsenal 0-2 Ipswich Town The FA Youth Cup sponsored by E.ON Fourth Round Proper 7pm, Tuesday 19 January 2010 Underhill, Barnet FC Ipswich Town stunned holders Arsenal as they knocked them out of The FA Youth Cup sponsored by E.ON with a 2-0 victory at Underhill inspired by highly-rated striker Connor Wickham. Two goals inside the first eleven minutes were enough to beat Steve Bould’s side and send Ipswich into the Fifth Round. The first came from Ronan Murray who chased a long ball over the top and finished well in the tenth minute. Then Wickham, who is only 16-years-old but who has already made 17 first team appearances for Town, made it 2-0 with another excellent finish a minute later. Arsenal battled hard to get back in the tie, winning a string of corners and going close through Luke Freeman. But Wickham also came close to extending Ipswich’s lead on the break and the visitors were worthy winners. Elswhere, West Ham United reached the Fifth Round by beating QPR 3-0 with two goals from Cristian Montano and one from England U17 striker Robert Hall. WEST HAM 3, QPR 0 Posted on: Tue 19 Jan 2010QPR's Under 18's were dealt a lesson in clinical finishing by West Ham United this evening as they went down 3-0 in the FA Youth Cup fourth round to goals from Cristian Montano (2) and Robert Hall in a entertaining game at Upton Park. Steve Gallen's side were looking to take the scalp of another renowned Youth set-up in the Hammers, after turning over Southampton 3-1 at Loftus Road in the third round. The young R's lined up with goalkeeper Jack Middleton, who was drafted in during the warm-up when Jon Miles suffered a back strain, while usual No.1 Nikki-Lee Bulmer missed out through injury. The rest of the side was set up in a 4-3-3 formation. The defence saw Michael Harriman at right back, Danny Bailey and Luke Olley in the centre and Aaron Waters at left back. The R's midfield three consisted of skipper Max Ehmer, Sam Bewick and Frankie Sutherand, who had scored the opener in the previous round, and they were looking to support the front three of Javonne Malloy, Elliot Cox and Antonia German, who was hoping to impress further after his recent appearance for the First Team. Youth Team Coach Tony Carr's West Ham side opted for a 4-4-2 diamond formation with George Moncur, son of West Ham Legend John, as the holding player of the diamond and highly rated strike duo Mantano and 15-year-old England Youth star, Hall. The R's started well and with only two minutes gone Elliot Cox drove wide after dispossessing Barrett. The game saw a fairly scrappy start with little football being played in a nervy first ten, with the two narrow midfields sizing each other up. On 16 minutes Rangers had their best opportunity of the half with Sam Bewick capitalising after winning the ball and driving from his own half. After a fortuitous deflection, he found himself through on goal but the Hammers keeper came out and saved down to his right. West Ham then began to find their feet, and on 19 minutes carved out a goal with their first effort. Barrett, on the right hand side, played the ball through to Abdullah who was playing at the top of the diamond, and he fed the ball past R's right back Harriman, and Montano nonchalantly slotted the ball home first time. West Ham from then on were looking to play the ball down the channels to the pacy Hall and Montano, and with Abdullah also in support, were looking dangerous, creating several half chances. The R's however had their own dangerous front three, and nearly levelled on 29 minutes. A deep cross from Waters on the left hand side, saw the imposing German go for the ball with keeper Loveday, and it fell to Cox whose shot was blocked for a corner. The R's midfield three were battling hard and playing with real passion making tackle after tackle. So much so that on 33 minutes, Sutherland was unfairly yellow carded after a firm tackle on Barrett that took man and ball. From the resultant free kick, the ball wasn't cleared and Hammers centre back Craig shot wide on the turn. Just before the end of the half QPR were dealt a cruel body blow when, on 41 minutes, Waters' foul on Abdullah near the by-line, allowed Hall a free kick just outside the box. Halls's whipping left foot cross caught a deflection off the top of the wall, deceiving Middleton in the crowded penalty area and flying into the top corner of the goal. Both teams were having five minute spells of pressure throughout the half, with German looking a real threat up top. QPR will have gone in at the break certainly feeling hard done by to be 2-0 down. West Ham started the brighter after the interval, showing their quality and looking to play the ball on the ground. The R's were restricted to long range efforts, and German continued to look QPR's main threat. On 57 minutes he was able to get off a good shot from a tight angle but the West Ham keeper dealt with it well. On 64 minutes, Gallen looked to change the game by bringing on Christian Nanetti for Molloy, and immediately from Nanetti's corner the ball was cleared and then lobbed back into the box over the West Ham defence to the unmarked German, but the R's front man wasn't able to connect as he would have liked. On 75 minutes, West Ham put the final nail in the QPR coffin when Abdullah played a through ball to Hall in behind Waters, and he calmly squared the ball to Montano whose timely run saw him finish from eight yards out. At the other end, Nanetti had a powerful shot saved by Loveday while, in the final seconds, Middleton pulled off a fantastic save after Hall's trickery had created a clear cut chance for Abdullah from 12 yards. The night ended on a sour note for R's defender Bailey who was shown his marching orders for a second booking. Steve Gallen and assistant Marc Bircham will come away from this fixture feeling disappointed to have lost 3-0, but with immense pride as their youngsters never gave up against a strong youth side. QPR: Middleton, Harriman, Waters, Ehmer, Bailey, Olley, Bewick, Sutherland (Doherty, 72), Cox (Graham, 85), German, Molley (Nanetti, 64) West Ham: Loveday, Modelski (Mcnaughton, 80), Brown, Craig, Sanchez, Moncur, Barrett (Turgott, 85), Warren, Montano (Purdy, 75) Hall, Abdulla www.qpr.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10373~1937950,00.html

West Ham Official Site Carr drives on U18s Tony Carr believes there is more to come from his U18s following their Youth Cup fourth-round victory 19.01.2010 Send Print RSS Tony Carr is demanding more from his West Ham United Under-18 side following their 3-0 FA Youth Cup fourth-round win over Queens Park Rangers. Cristian Montano scored twice and Robert Hall once to warm supporters' hearts on a cold evening at the Boleyn Ground, but the Academy Director believes his young charges could have played better football, despite the positive result. Carr told WHUTV his players may have been trying too hard to impress, with many making their debuts at the stadium. With a home tie with Newcastle United to follow in the fifth round, he is hoping they are more accustomed to their grand surroundings second time around. "It was obviously a cup tie and the most important thing is to be in the next round, and we won the game comfortably in the end," said Carr. "I was a little bit disappointed with the overall performance as I thought we could have used the ball better and passed the ball better. "Sometimes it affects the boys when they play here as they are a little bit nervous and a little bit anxious and maybe try to prove too much that they are good players, rather than playing a more natural game. "The more we play here, the better, and fortunately we've got a home draw against Newcastle, who I know were here watching us. Hopefully, we'll put on a better performance and be less nervous, but overall I was very pleased with the result. "I thought we could have played a little bit better football, which I always like to do in the showcase games here at Upton Park. It wasn't to be, but I'm glad to be in the next round. "We have another game here and it's only a couple of weeks away. They'll be more used to it and be in more familiar surroundings. It may seem strange to people, but when they go and play at a stadium, it does change the dynamics of the game." The U18s have lost just twice in their last 12 league and cup matches, and Carr knows there is more to come from his players, who withstood a robust, physical approach from their opponents. Two of those to shine were Montano and Hall, who have forged a potent partnership that has now produced 13 goals this season. While his forwards both impressed, along with left-back Jordan Brown, Carr wants a bigger contribution from the midfield. "For a lot of the game, we starved Robert and Cristian of any quality. They had long periods of the game where they didn't have any of the ball, which was disappointing, but I'm picking at nits really! I am pleased with the result." Having advanced to the last 16, Carr and his staff will now swot up on Newcastle, who reached the fifth round themselves with victory over Reading. "I don't know anything about them," Carr admitted. "We'll have to do some homework and see if we can get some information on them, but it's really about us again and how we play. If we play well, we'll be a match for anybody www.whufc.com/articles/carr-drives-on-u18s-20100119_2236884_1937899

FA The FA Youth Cup sponsored by E.ON Montano magic By David Barber - Wednesday, 20 January, 2010 Hammers’ Colombian-born striker scored two in Fourth Round tie at Upton Park. West Ham United 3-0 Queens Park Rangers The FA Youth Cup sponsored by E.ON Fourth Round Proper 7pm, Tuesday 19 January 2010 Boleyn Ground, West Ham United FC On a good day for the club as a whole Tony Carr’s Young Hammers won through to The FA Youth Cup’s last 16 with a 3-0 win against their west London visitors. A crowd close to 1,000 saw an eager QPR side on top for nearly 20 minutes. All over the pitch they were quick into the tackle, giving the West Ham artists no time on the ball, and up front the powerful Antonio German was a threat both on the ground and in the air. Crucially, though, Rangers failed to score in that period and some of that early belief and commitment started to ebb away after the home side had taken a 20th-minute lead against the run of play. Left-winger Ahmed Abdulla, who had spent six years with Arsenal before joining the Hammers at 16, was in the middle as he slipped a perfect pass through for Cristian Montano. The Colombian-born striker, the scorer of five goals already this season, had enough time to take a touch before slotting the ball firmly past Jon Miles’ left hand. Rangers’ Sam Bewick and Max Ehmer were denied by some great blocks and German, a playing substitute in the recent FA Cup replay with Sheffield United, was winning everything in the air. He was often crowded out by two or three defenders as he shaped to shoot with that ‘hammer’ of a right foot. Rangers were certainly in the game at this point but a second Hammers goal two minutes before the break was a serious dent to their ambitions. As referee Lennard walked the Rangers ‘wall’ slowly back the required ten yards, England U17 cap Robert Hall weighed up his options with a free-kick out on the right. With one of his bright yellow boots, the left one, he whipped a shot high into the net, the ball taking a deflection off a Rangers player in the near-post area. 2-0 to West Ham at half-time. It was a tough second period for the visitors. Hall used his silky skills to work some space on the right, just inside the box, and his low cross was turned in by Montano for a killer third goal on 75 minutes. Within seconds the scorer was substituted, having taken quite a battering throughout the game. Rangers kept going to the end, a blast from substitute Christian Nanetti hitting ‘keeper Peter Loveday in the chest before he could even get his hands up, but centre-back Danny Bailey received a second yellow card in the last minute of added time to complete a disappointing evening for Steve Gallen’s side. West Ham United Peter Loveday, Filip Modelski (Callum McNaughton), Jordan Brown, Paco Craig, Sergio Sanchez, George Moncur, Nicky Barrett (Blair Turgott), Eoin Wearen, Cristian Montano (Daniel Purdy), Robert Hall, Ahmed Abdulla Queens Park Rangers Jon Miles, Michael Harriman, Aaron Waters, Max Ehmer, Danny Bailey, Luke Olley, Sam Bewick, Frankie Sutherland (Michael Doherty), Elliott Cox (Bagasan Graham), Antonio German, Javonne Molloy (Christian Nanetti) Attendance 972 www.thefa.com/TheFACup/FACompetitions/TheFAYouthCup/NewsAndFeatures/2010/WestHamQPR.aspx
