Bump/Edit - Mick Leach: TodayMick Leach: Born January 16, 1947. Died in January 11 1992 - Great, very much unappreciated, QPR Hero of the mid-to late 1960s and much of the 1970s. The complete antithesis of 90% of the people currently at QPR (on the field or in the Boardroom) Leach made his debut in 1964/1965 season (Feb 1965 vs Colchester) and left in September 1979 (for the US). Although he did not feature in QPR's 1967 Cup run/triumph, did play a big part in QPR's promotion to Division One; was joint top-scorer in QPR's Relegation team (with 8); and played a big part in Gordon Jago's Promotion team; and QPR's 1975/76 Championship (almost) team. Leach Played over 300 league games and scored over 60 goals, first as a forward; then as a midfielder (including in the 1975/76 "Championship" Team). For quite a time, Leach was the "boo-boy" victim of some in the QPR crowd; the scapegoat; the person whose name was booed when he was announced in the lineup. But he showed true character. Beautiful goal by Mick Leach (Usually just show the Francis opener. But this Leach goal also in that Liverpool season opener)

I was there at that game, a wonderful opener to the season, Francis' goal was goal of the season.
Getting back to Leach, I loved him even though he always seemd to take all the flack, great bloke, straddled to great sides and in the second was the only non-international player in the team but almost always started.
True legend. R I P Mr Leach.

Wikipedia Profile - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mick_LeachDave Barton's Queens Park Rangers Site Profile of Leach - www.queensparkrangersfc.com/leach.htmMicky Leach was probably the best example of an unsung hero that I can think of in my 37 years as a regular at Loftus Road. When I hear Rangers fans booing a player I always think of Leach......and it's a very painful memory in that respect as he always gave 100% and was far more skilful than many gave him credit for. Due to that memory I will never boo a Rangers player - even though it might be deserved on some rare occasions. It's great to see his goal v Liverpool in Aug 1975 on this thread. The first half Gerry Francis "Goal of the Season" is the one everyone remembers from that day, but Leach's second is a cracker too. As a 14 year old kid the first time I have ever had a letter appear in the programme was after he left to join Detroit Express in 1978 when I wrote an appreciation for what he had done at Rangers as a player. My personal favourite memory of Mick was him coming on as sub at Goodison Park in March 1976 and immediately scoring a cracking goal to complete the scoring in Rangers vital 2-0 win at Everton. The match turned up on one of the recent "The Big Match" dvds. Great viewing! When people remember the 1975/6 season team it's important to rember the man who wore the number 12 shirt most often that season and who made a massive contribution to the team - Micky Leach.

I have lost count of how many crucial goals mick scored for us, almost every goal he scored had a direct bearing on our success, the goal at ipswich in 1968 which got us a vital point also the last game of that mem season away to villa, plus many many others and i prob saw most of em.
Great servant to the club.......RIP mick.

Micky Leach
A proper QPR player in the mould of Mackie and Ainsworth - never perhaps as skillful as others in the side but loyalty to the club unquestioned and always gave 100% on the pitch
His legacy was a disproportionate number of TV goals - always seemed to hit the net on the rare occasions QPR was on TV
Unquestionably up there in the pantheon of hooped legends

RIP Mick.
A true legend & the most under rated player I have known to wear the hoops.
Also a role model for all footballers on how to turn the boos to being a hero. I Can only think of Paul Furlong who has matched Mick with this.

scored some vital games for us and personally felt he was a better player in mid-field. If my memory is correct, was'nt Mick earning a living as a London cabbie? diffferent today when players can retire financially secure

after being the target from the boo boys Mick moved into midfield and ended up by being a very useful player, one that scored some important goals for us. God Bless Mick, you were taken far too young

We all acknowledge the club has made progress re QPR History and Heroes
However. Not sure why; but the club repeatedly ignores some of the true QPR Heroes of QPR (while often highlighting "lesser lights.")
Sometimes they play catch up, presumably after reading the tweets (although they for whatever reason never acknowledge or link to...!)
But other times, nothing.
And we know they follow what's happening on social media

How we could do with a few of Mick's class these day's. Although not used every game, he made an effort and was better than given credit for. A proper team player despite what the boo boys did.
