Sinton a shock name for Harriers job
Former Wolves and England winger Andy Sinton has emerged as a shock late contender to be Kidderminster Harriers’ next manager.
The 43-year-old has thrown his hat into the ring, as the Aggborough board prepare to step up the process of replacing Mark Yates.
Former Chester boss Jim Harvey remains the favourite to take the hot-seat, with chairman Barry Norgrove having identified his own preferred candidate.
But the Harriers board have drawn up a six-man shortlist and plan to speak to the leading contenders next week, with the aim of appointing their chosen man before the trip to Crawley Town on January 23.
Sinton has spent the last four years cutting his teeth in non-league management at Fleet Town, leading the Hampshire side to the most successful spell in their history in terms of league finishes.
Now the former QPR, Sheffield Wednesday and Tottenham wide man is keen to advance his career and move closer to the Solihull home he has kept since ending his playing days at Molineux.
Sinton, who has his UEFA A coaching licence, led Fleet to their best ever finish in non-league football in his first season in charge in 2005/06, claiming 14th place in Isthmian League Division One South.
The club have climbed the ladder further since and ended last season third in the table.
Sinton’s representative have conveyed his interest in the Harriers vacancy to Norgrove, who is keen to open talks with at least one unnamed candidate.
He said: “We have our number one we think we would like. Hopefully we can start talks to discuss wages, and the budget he will have to spend.
“We are hoping we can have something in place for the Crawley game on 23 January. We had over 50 on the list, we have numbered those and we will see where we go with that.
“The bigger names we were a bit worried about, as they may not have the experience at non-league level.”
That could spell disappointment for Sinton as well, as former Harriers player Jeff Kenna and ex-Wolves goalkeeper Tim Flowers.
Norgrove has previously confirmed the receipt of applications from the pair.
