SEARCH CONTINUES FOR NEW CHAIRMAN
Posted on: 11.01.2010
The Football League has advertised the position of Independent Chairman as the search begins for the successor to Lord Mawhinney who will step down from the position on March 15th.
An advert on the front page of this weekend's Sunday Times appointments section called for 'an individual of real stature and ability with experience of leading complex organisations', to replace the former Conservative Minister who announced his departure in November.
Applicants must also be an 'excellent communicator used to influencing stakeholders including partner organisations and Government' with 'a demonstrable interest in football and an understanding of the relevant business aspects of the game.'
The new Independent Chairman will arrive as Football League crowds hit their highest levels for 50 years, with more than 16 millions fans attending matches in each of the last five seasons.
The prestigious role demands effective chairing of The Football League Board as well as the ability to lead the 72 Member Clubs. The figure will need to 'take executive responsibility for the management of The League including Operations, Commercial, Finance, Legal and External Relations.'
