Posted on: 09.01.2010
Nottingham Forest boss Billy Davies was celebrating today after being named Coca-Cola Championship Manager of the Month for December 2009.
Davies' side continued their excellent recent form by remaining unbeaten in December, recording four wins and two draws from their six league fixtures. They began the month with a comprehensive home win over local rivals Leicester City and followed this with a credible draw at Sheffield United, then netted an impressive three points against Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium. Further home victories against Preston North End and Coventry City saw Forest secure 14 points in the month, conceding just a single goal in the process, to leave them heading into the New Year just outside the automatic promotion places in the Coca-Cola Championship.
Also short-listed for the December award were Dave Jones of Cardiff City, Sean O'Driscoll of Doncaster Rovers and Newcastle United's Chris Hughton.
Alan Curbishley, chairman of the Coca-Cola Manager of the Month Awards panel, said: "Billy Davies' Nottingham Forest have been on a fantastic run over the past few weeks and are unbeaten in the league since September. Billy deserves special praise for the way in which he has masterminded their winning streak which has seen Forest remain hot on the heels of the top two in the Championship."
Paul Lambert of Norwich City won the award in League 1 and Keith Hill of Rochdale was given the League 2 accolade.
The decision to present the Coca-Cola Championship Manager of the Month award was made by the Coca-Cola Awards panel. Headed by Alan Curbishley the panel also includes former World Cup referee Jack Taylor, on behalf of The Football League, Olaf Dixon of the League Managers Association and Steve Watts, Marketing Assets Manager, Coca-Cola Great Britain.
